TV best bets with return of Tim Allen, ‘Psych,’ ‘The Walking Dead’

LMS KeyArt_Premiere.indd

I’m back from a two-week vacation and am way behind on my TV viewing. No surprise that NBC axed “The Playboy Club” (which was clearly going to die an early death) and “Free Agents,” which I actually liked but obviously not many others did. ABC should be killing “Charlie’s Angels” soon. And CBS has already moved “How To Be a Gentleman” to Saturday nights, effectively a death sentence with production halted on Thursday.

ABC is debuting Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” Tuesday. While this show will remind you of “Home Improvement,” it also makes you wonder why the network is even bothering to try. Among existing shows, USA brings back the lightweight but always fun “Psych” on Wednesday and AMC’s much anticipated second season of “The Walking Dead” (shot in metro Atlanta) is back Sunday.

“Dancing With the Stars” 8 p.m. ABC – Despite clearly being the worst dancer, Chaz Bono’s fans are keeping him around.
“How I Met Your Mother” 8 p.m. CBS – Ted takes his architecture class on a field trip.
“Terra Nova” 8 p.m. Fox – An fatal illness befalls some of the crew.
“2 Broke Girls” 8:30 p.m. CBS – Max gets a taste of Caroline’s former posh life.
“Bored to Death” 9 p.m. HBO (third season debut) – Jonathan releases his new book.
“Five” 9 p.m. Lifetime – An anthology of five short stories about breast cancer. Directors include Alicia Keys, Jennifer Aniston and Demi Moore. Stars include Rosario Dawson, Ginnifer Goodwin and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
Two and a Half Men” 9 p.m. CBS – Walden looks for Mrs. Right.
Enlightened” 9:30 p.m. HBO (new series) – Laura Dern stars as a corporate executive who has a public breakdown and gets a mental reboot.
Castle” 10:01 p.m. ABC – Castle and Beckett go after a serial killer who stole Ryan’s gun.
“BET Hip Hop Awards 2011” 8 p.m. BET — Mike Epps hosts. Big Sean and Roscoe Dash were among the performers. The show was shot earlier this month in Atlanta.
“Last Man Standing” 8 p.m. ABC (new series) — Tim Allen is back in sitcom land after 12 years, this time with three daughters instead of three sons.
NCIS” 8 p.m. CBS — A contract killer targets a Navy Lieutenant Commander.
“Dancing With the Stars” 9 p.m. ABC — The fourth celebrity is cut. Could it be a Kardashian?
NCIS: Los Angeles” 9 p.m. CBS — The team delves into the Libyan resistance movement.
Ringer” 9 p.m. the CW — Bridget continues to pose as Siobhan.
“Reed Between the Lines” 10 p.m. BET (new series) — Malcolm Jamal-Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross play a happy couple. It might remind you of “The Cosby Show.”
“Sons of Anarchy” 10 p.m. FX — SAMCRO’s ties to the cartel are jeopardized when an important package is compromised.
The Middle” 8 p.m. ABC — Mike wants Brick to defend himself against bullies.
The X Factor” 8 p.m. Fox — The 32 acts get mentoring at the judges’ homes.
“Criminal Minds” 9 p.m. CBS — A killer targets the survivors of a high-school massacre ten years later.
“Modern Family” 9 p.m. ABC — Phil and Claire encounter an annoying city councilman, played by former Atlantan David Cross.
Work of Art” 9 p.m. Bravo (second season debut) — The 14 artists have to “fix” lowbrow art.
American Horror Story” 10 p.m. FX — Vivien and Violet get caught in a dangerous situation similar to one from the house’s past.
“CSI” 10 p.m. CBS — A former mayor of Las Vegas is shot.
“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” 10 p.m. NBC — T.R. Knight plays a family man suspected of being a serial rapist.
Psych” 10 p.m. USA (sixth season debut) — Shawn stumbles on a dead body at the British consulate’s home.
“Revenge” 10 p.m. ABC — Emily seeks payback from the therapist who had her committed when she was a child.
The Big Bang Theory” 8 p.m. CBS — Leonard and Sheldon attend a party at the home of Sheldon’s nemesis Wil Wheaton.
“Parks & Recreation” 8:30 p.m. NBC — Ron takes his Pawnee Rangers troop into the wild.
Grey’s Anatomy” 9 p.m. ABC — Debbie Allen guests.
The Office” 9 p.m. NBC — Josh Groban plays Andy’s brother.
Person of Interest” 9 p.m. CBS — A young doctor becomes a person of interest.
“Project Runway” 9 p.m. Lifetime — Bert, once annoying, became tolerable. Now he’s out. Is Lauren next?
“Bordertown: Laredo” 10 p.m. A&E (new series) — Following the Laredo, TX narcotics unit.
“Jersey Shore” 10 p.m. MTV— Deena continues to pursue Pauly while Mike keeps trying to stir the pot.

“A Gifted Man” 8 p.m. CBS — Michael seeks Anton’s help with a patient who hears voices.
“Nikita” 8 p.m. the CW — Nikita finds out her old partner is still alive.
Kitchen Nightmares” 8 p.m. Fox — Gordon Ramsay fixes Luigi’s, an Italian eatery in Anaheim, Calif.
“CSI: NY” 9 p.m. CBS — Joey McIntyre guests.
Fringe” 9 p.m. Fox — Walter is wary of leaving the sanctuary of his lab for the first time in years.
“Say Yes to the Dress” 9 p.m. TLC — Lisa, wife of “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro, searches for a dress for a vow renewal.
“American Restoration” 9 p.m. History (new time slot) — A 1930s fare box and a 1950s atomic-missile pedal car are renovated.
“Blue Bloods” 10 p.m. CBS — Erin reopens an 18-year-old rape case.

How to be a Gentleman” 8 p.m. Saturday CBS (new time slot) — CBS is relegating this poorly rated new sitcom to Saturday night from Thursday, swapping with “Rules of Engagement.”
Saturday Night Live” 11:29 p.m. Saturday NBC — Anna Faris hosts.
The Amazing Race” 8 p.m. CBS Sunday — The race continues in Thailand.
“Visionaries” 8 p.m. OWN Sunday — Atlanta mogul Tyler Perry is featured.

Welcome back, Rodney! Looking forward to the return of The Walking Dead. They were filming in my neighborhood a few months back.

Two and a Half Men is boring. There were hardly any laughs on last weeks show. I am sure ratings have dropped off after the premier.

Two Broke Girls wont make it. I watched the first 2 episodes and wont watch again.

How To Be a Gentleman is a waste of air time.

Modern Family is good, but I do not like how they aged Lily.

These are my 2 cents.

I agree with Mr Fernwell about Two and a Half Men. I have already given up on it.

As for Tim Allen, I remember a time when he was funny. No wait, actually I don’t.

I’m enjoying Terra Nova even though the first 2 episodes were knock-offs(or maybe I should say tributes) to other movies. i.e. Blade Runner, The Birds…It’s the Jurassic Park elements that I love!

With all that flesh the zombies eat on “The Walking Dead,” how do they digest or process all that matter?

Don’t they ever go to the bathroom?

Will that ever be addressed the show?

Revenge is the ISH!!!! I am enjoying Terra Nova too. I l love Psych, but it took so abnormally long to return, I don’t know if I’ll watch or not. More than likely I will, just a got tired of waiting for it to come back. Looking forward to checking out Last Man Standing and Reed Between the Lines.

Breaking Bad has proven once again its the best show on TV and one of the few things worth watching. It will be a long wait for the final season next summer.

Deirdre, Every possible story has already been told many times over. Can you name a movie or show that is not a knock-off of something already done?

I can’t wait for Walking Dead. How many episodes will there be this season?

Pre-Med Girl, you should just make up the answers to those questions, because that is all the writers would do seeing as zombies are totally fictitious creatures.

Come on Scott…I meant “knock-off” in that Terra Nova borrows MAJOR elements from other movie. There are lots of shows that have similar themes but tell their stories in whole different ways. i.e. Fringe.

But a prehistoric bird pecking at the hand of a guy trying to close a door is a direct steal from The Birds. The large floating billboards in what’s left of present day Earth is a direct steal from Blade Runner. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. Knowing how Spielberg works, I think it’s his way of honoring the past in movies. Good for him.

And the whole thing is a knock-off of Avatar, which was a knock-off of Dances with Wolves… etc.

JT, Avatar practically WAS Dances With Wolves! I’m surprised that Costner didn’t sue!

Love ‘Psych’, will definately be watching.

Terra Nova is good, however it looks expensive to film…wonder how long it will survive.

I like Revenge also. They have cut a couple of shows I liked.

1) The Event (it was just getting good)

2) Chase

They pull these shows and no one knows until they’re gone!

One more question: I have been just shaking my head on Ted Danson’s entering the CSI fold. (I don’t know who I’d like to see–other than Grissom–but Ted doesn’t feel right.) But what do the rest of you think?
