Joanne Feldman replaces Jeff Hill on ‘Good Day Atlanta’

Loading ...Changes keep on coming on Fox 5’s “Good Day Atlanta.”
Weekend meteorologist Joanne Feldman takes over for Jeff Hill in the mornings. A Lassiter High School graduate, Feldman has been with Fox 5 since 2007.
Hill, part of the “Good Day Atlanta” team for nine years, moves to weekends with additional weekday noon and evening duties as well. Hill, on his Fox 5 Facebook page, explained after people wondered where he had gone:
Hey everyone! Thanks for all the comments. Just wanted to let you know that I have not left the FOX 5 Storm Team, and for the first time in years (9 to be exact) I get to sleep in. You’ll be able to catch me during the week on FOX 5 News at Noon, and in the evening with Ken Cook on FOX 5 News at 5 & 6. On the weekends I’ll be there at 6 and 10pm. As for Good Day Atlanta, my good friend and colleague, Joanne Feldman will take over the weather duties. She is awesome and has promised not to sleep through her alarm (something I did..just a few times). See you on the tube!
Hill has been with the station for more than a decade, most of it as the weather guy on “Good Day Atlanta.” He also briefly co-hosted with Karen Graham at the 9 a.m. hour in 2009-2010 era.
Why this move? No word from the station.
But new management, which took over a year ago, has been fiddling quite a bit with the line-up at “Good Day Atlanta” the past year. In late December, Suchita Vadlamani stepped down (and has not yet picked up another TV job). She was replaced by Gurvir Dhindsa, who used to host “Good Day Atlanta” in the late 1990s. Long-time anchor Mark Hayes was recently bumped off the 7 to 9 a.m. slot for Buck Lanford. In the meantime, Hayes adds some reporting duties while keeping anchoring duties from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. And “Road Warrior” Stacey Elgin was cut last month with no official replacement yet.
According to Feldman’s bio on WAGA’s website, she is married with two children and lives in Alpharetta. Hill has a wife and two daughters.
Feldman, on her Fox 5 Facebook page, wrote this reaction last week to someone congratulating her on the new gig: “Thank you! I’m excited to be taking on this new challenge…and I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to work with during these very early morning hours!”
The last time I checked the ratings in July, Fox 5 was a solid second in the mornings behind perennial leader Channel 2 Action News and its ratings were up year over year.

Maybe if they had the Falcon Cheerleaders host along with Buck Belue and Larry the Cable Guy make frequent guest appearances. Then they could broadcast live from various Barbecue restaurants around Atlanta except for Fridays of course when they could be live at a fish fry. Then they could give out free food to all the fans that show up while the cheerleaders dance. Man that would be a number one show.

I quit watching this morning show a while back when Karen Graham made comments in defense of Michael Vick. The other reason I quit watching is that I don’t need them telling me the weather every 3-5 minutes. Not just the current weather in the Atlanta area, but the 10 day forecast, what it did yesterday and the weather in cities that have no viewing capabilities for the show. Honestly, in one hour the time spent on commercials and weather must be at least 45 minutes. Stacey Elgin’s 2 minute piece every hour was refreshing. It’s just amateur hour anyway. Not worth watching.

Joann is a class act although it would be nice if she would change her hairstyle sometimes to compliment her classy choice of clothing. Changing her hairstyle up sometimes wouldnt hurt as long as it isn’t as frequent as a Monica Kaufman Pearson changes hers!!!

Y’all get over the repetitive thing. You aren’t meant to watch this or any other news program for hours on end. You’re supposed to watch it for one cycle and get on with whatever you are doing. Same thing with the radio news. Listen for 10 minutes or half hour tops and get on with life.
If you watch and/or listen for three hours and get tired of hearing the same thing 20 times,, that’s your problem.

Here it is in a nutshell:
Joanne is fine. Jeff is good and I would think he got a promotion with this move and will someday replace Ken Kook. Mark Hayes is awful and is basically just SAYIN the news and seems like he is not into his job at all. Suchita was bad but Gurvir is MUCH worse. Buck and Karen are good. Stacy Elgin was hot and one of the highlights of the show. The birthday wishes need to go. As someone said earlier they go overboard with the weather and traffic. The reporting does seem to center on blacks and minorities and most of the reporters and talking heads ARE blacks and minorities.
If channel 2 had news on when I am getting ready for work I would never watch this channel at all.

When Suchita left the show tanked. She was the whole “F’in” show period. JoAnne is some good eye candy no doubt so I’ll give her a fair chance but if I had my way here’s the line up I’d choose:
Anchor – Suchita
Weather – JoAnne or Dagmar if they could woo her back or go into the vault and find Nancy Loveland again!
Road Warrior – Stacey Elgin
Traffic – Cheryl (For a big girl she’s hot)
At the very least this would be some good eye candy in the morning…

The new FOX 5 MANAGEMENT are a bunch of IDIOTS!! It is obvious they don’t know much about the TV business…as it is all about ratings…which are on a fast downhill slide for Good Day.
Let’s review some of the recent ineptitude of Fox 5 management…1) replacement for Suchita certainly a big downgrade 2) Road Warrior WAS a bright, energetic, and entertaining feature and would have been more so with her pending pregnancy 3) Jeff Hill is very knowledgeable and very entertaining 4) an anchor change every hour makes does not make for nice morning TV 5) Increasing weather reports every 3-5 minutes is overkill when everyone can access weather via smartphone.
I look VERY forward to reading about the demise of the Fox 5 NEWS DIRECTOR and the GM and others in this column very soon.

I stopped watching as well when Suchita left. So as for this new move, it doesnt really affect me, although i do have to say i thought Joanne was pretty hot from watching her on the weekends. Jeff was the only comic relief on that show, dude is just too funny. I remember one show where they were interviewing some WWE wrestlers, so after the interview they throw it over to Jeff to do weather and he says “Feels like a wrestling match every sunday morning trying to get my kids ready for church”. I lol’d.

The Fab 5 Crew is steadily dissolving (Karen, Mark, Jeff, Suchita, and Cheryl).
OK, so it’s time for a change every once in a while, but changes should be made for the BETTER, not the worse. (Don’t get me wrong, I like Joanne, but I do not like Buck sitting at the desk, nor do I care for Gurvir this second time around, etc., etc.). I stopped watching GDA after they brought Buck inside.

After watching her on last night’s forecast, somebody needs to teach her the correct pronunciation of Forsyth County. Ken Rodriguez is one of the few on Atlanta TV, who gets it right.
It amazes me how often the local news, weather and sports people mangle the local place names.

Wow, these are such foul, hateful remarks. This is a morning show with people delivering news and weather yet some writers seem more concerned with how people look. It’s a job. Obviously I’m in the minority here, but I’ll take Gurvir over Suchita any day, or morning…..for hosting the show. Suchita was smokin’ hot but a complete ice queen. No warmth, no empathy, half the time she looked there was a thousand places she would rather be than sitting on the Fox 5 morning set. Gurvir is classy, professional and smooth. No idea where one poster got the idea she’s all ummm’s. Mark Hayes, please leave. Just goin’ through the motions, my friend. Classic moment for him was when he had to interview Laila Ali a couple of months after dissing her live during the first interview. She clearly wanted to kick his a$$ and he clearly was worried that that was exactly what was going to happen. Stacy did get the shaft, I enjoyed her Road Warrior spots. Not nearly as much as Brett Martin, but she was a strong second in the final polls.
Oh, and Joanne? Flawless.

I’m sorry to see that Jeff has left the Good Day Show. I worked with him over the years and I must say he is a stand up guy who is perhaps the most qualified meteorologist in the market. Some of my favorite stints was when he and I would do live remotes out at the Renaissance Festival every year. I really got a kick out of that. He is truly a funny guy. I used to tell him that we could have OUR own show, we would then chuckle, sip some java, put on our English nickers, and do some live tv.
Not knowing all the details I can only assume his move has something to do with MONEY. I only wish him and his family the best.
I truly believed that when Jeff, Suchita, Mark, Cheryl, and myself did the show it was at the best it has ever been. Fox, at that time, spent money to scout out the talent and bring it together. Now its just a smorgasbord of people, brought in from other departments of the newsroom, who are just happy to have a job.
In closing, I will use this analogy:
Anyone can take a pictures, that doesn’t make them a photographer.
Anyone can drive, they are not a NASCAR driver.
Anyone can fill in on the morning show, it doesn’t make them a real member of Good Day Atlanta.
Its all about the MONEY folks. You get what you (Fox 5) pays for.
Don’t expect a five course meal when it comes to this show folks. Fox only has money for a PBJ sandwich, a bag of chips, and a capri sun (with a missing straw).

Bring Suschita back and Stacey Elgin. Fox needs to take a page from Channel 46 news. They make it a point to have you watching news in the A.M. Also, I agree…we don’t need the weather report every freakin 3 to 5 minutes. If there isn’t enough to talk about Atlanta in a 4 hour period then cut the show to two hours and find something else to replace it with. Like Real “Fake” Housewives reruns. LOL

I love Cheryl with traffic & if you watched during the icestorm she is the only one that made it in & stayed for days. Thanks to her she kept everyone informed about weather & we had NO Traffic just clogged roads. I don’t like Karen, Gurvir but Jeff is a real nice guy. I guess it’s just a matter of time that 5 will be like 11 and I will have to find new station if Cheryl ever leaves. This station use to be best because of the personalitys now they want people with NONE.

FOX 5 management is making mistake after mistake. The Dream Team was Suchita, Mark, Jeff, Brett and Cheryl. This show is in the dumper now. And to add insult to injury, they have hired rookie producers and camera people (captions and photos are wrong, anchors looking at wrong cameras, etc…). You can tell there is tension and the anchors are not happy. I actually like Cheryl and I think they need to give her more responsibility. And if they do anything to Karen, I’m so gone. As it is, the morning show is difficult to watch and I’ve actually started watching CBS 46 which isn’t half bad.

I used to be a FOX advocate (I switched from NBC to watch Jeff). I agree – management SUCKS. I am 95% close to switching. Suchita gave some realness to the news and Jeff was awesome. Get a clue FOX management before you destroy everything……………
