There is also a dedicated page for “Idol” fans here. As I’ve already done this week, I’ll be tracking “X Factor” as well.
And for folks who normally read this blog and have no interest in “Idol” or “X Factor,” no worries. My coverage of other radio and TV-related topics will continue unabated.

I leave tomorrow! Anyway, X Factor ratings held at 12.5 million on Thursday, identical to Wednesday. According to the New York Times, expectations from Fox and even rivals was in the neighborhood of 20 million, which is what I figured, too. So “X Factor” is not even close to meeting the hype. And sadly, the product has not lived up to the hype at all. It hasn’t even reached the 18-49 demo numbers of “The Voice,” which I think clearly sucked a lot of the wind from “X Factor’s” sails. The show does not add much to the equation so far and while I like L.A. Reid, an upgrade from Randy Jackson, Nicole is superfluous and the host Steve Jones has been a void of personality. And like I have said before, they are letting bad singers suck it on stage for way too long and giving us a surfeit of actual talent. I’m disappointed and not actually upset I’ll be missing next week. I am curious about boot camp. Have fun talking about that. Question: should I create blog entries in advance for you to talk about the show? I can!

If you want to create new entries, Rodney, go ahead. Maybe a fresh thread every 3 or 4 days will help. You’ve spoiled us! However, if you’re swamped with packing and last minute details, then we will find a way to manage. Have fun! And don’t let Helen wear blonde wig!

Oh and I totally agree with you on X-Factor. It comes across as stale, almost old-fashioned. Maybe that will change when “boot camp” starts but really, isn’t that just Hollywood with more interference from the judges?

Rodney, spot on analysis of X-Factor, it was as if I wrote that myself, except for the use of “surfeit” of course. Enjoy the vacation.

Morning!
As most of you know by now, Rodney is on vacation. two more new threads will be posted for the Idol X portion of this blog. A few will also be posted in the Radio & TV section. My understanding is that comments are closed in the R & TV section because he is not there to moderate. Comments are open here because we do have a moderator. Deirdre sheepishly raises her hand While this is a good thing, I also foresee problems with others having nothing better to do than to be annoying. However, I hope we take the high road and encourage new folks to join in.

Will anyone else be watching Terra Nova tonight? Would you be interested in writing a brief review of it for the blog tomorrow? How about a DWTS fan….anyone interested in reviewing that show this week?

Good morning! Sorry to leave you all alone, Deirdre! I just got into my office. The entire University campus was without power when I arrived for work at 7:30 AM, but was gradually coming on, little by little an hour later. I just got my computer turned on, so I am late arriving.
I have a class tonight but will be home by 7:30 or so. What time does Terra Nova come on? Is DWTS on at the same time? I know Nana watches DWTS religiously, but don’t know if she will be willing to do a review. Where is Mercedes? She’d probably write a wonderful review. If no one else volunteers, I will watch TN and try to write my impressions.

Hey. Just woke up from nearly 11 hours of blissful sleep in Aruba just to say hey and realize in my comment analysis of “X Factor,” I accidentally used the word “surfeit of actual talent” when I meant a “massive deficit of actual talent.” I’m just happy it’s EST here, too! Off to the beach!

Deirdre, I was a bit disappointed in Pan Am. I was expecting a higher grade show–something like Mad Men in the air. A higher quality dialogue and story line. I thought the flying stuff was pretty accurate and interesting–the airport, the planes, the uniforms, the perception of the women. And, yes, I agree they were treated with lots of respect by the writers–probably a lot more than they actually got “in the day.”

Not watching TN, since I can’t figure out why they’d have to go back multiple millions of years to “correct mistakes to save the current world”. That seems a stupid premise for me. My only set show tonight is “Castle” which I love after discovering it last season (sadly missed the first one). Usually flip back and forth betw the “Bev Hills H-wives” (the ONLY one other than NY I watch – no NJ and ATL trash for me – just like to peek in at the mansions and jewels of actual rich people, not pretends like NJ and ATL) and DWTS.

Harriett, I agree. I’m one of the few who is not a fan of Mad Men but I thought the flying scenes were well done. Lot’s of opportunity for stories with new passengers every week. I’d hate to think that it could turn into a new version of the Love Boat however. Christina Ricci didn’t have much of a story but maybe, since she’s the only well known cast member, they think we’d be willing to wait for it.

I’ve become hooked via Comcast “season catchup” to “Walking Dead” – cannot get it out of my head. Really well written and acted, just too gory. Can’t wait for the season premiere in Oct. Since “Amazing Race” started last night, my schedule, especially Sunday nites, is way overbooked! Don’t know how I’ll handle it all when “Chuck” and “Idol” start back!

Hoping that I get home from the gym in time to watch SingOff. This show has THE BEST talent of all the singing/talent shows…….hands down. However, I think it’s like caster oil. A lot of people need it, but they’re not used to things that are good for them. Therefore, it goes down with a bad after taste.

Morning, everyone.
I can’t really say I’m all that excited about any of the shows that are being mentioned – including X-F.
Terra Nova is a Jurassic Park redo (let’s hope its 1,000 times better than that Sat. AM kids show “Land of the Lost” from the 70s.)
Dancing with the never weres, the wanna-bes and the “oh, I remember thems” has NEVER interested me.
Grey’s Anatomy is rapidly falling on my “wanna watch” meter.
Pan-AM? It’ll go defunct like the airline.
