Forbes: Tyler Perry top-paid man in entertainment; Elton John fourth

Atlanta media mogul Tyler Perry is wealthy and successful. We all know that.
Forbes just quantified it, estimating his income from May 2010 to May 2011 as $130 million, more than any other man in entertainment.
That’s more than Simon Cowell (ranked No. 5), more than Brad Pitt, more than Leonardo DiCaprio, the only other actor in the top 10 Forbes compiled.
Forbes credited Perry’s five films he has made the past two years and two TV series. He is also starring in author James Patterson’s “I, Alex Cross” as detective Alex Cross.
Part-time Atlantan Elton John also made the list, generating $100 million in that time period and ranking No. 4, thanks to a worldwide tour.
In between are producers Jerry Bruckheimer at No. 2 and Steven Spielberg at No. 3. Dr. Phil is at No. 7.

@ the real blkshepherd, I’ve noticed that “THEY” will do that….post ignorant, slang verbiage on these Blogs; thinking they’re impersonating someone Black, when the majority of us don’t speak like that….when the intelligence level gets too high for “them” to cope with or when your information is factual. Unfortunately, the true color of RED…starts showing at that point.

But yes I do give Tyler his Props. Cant Stand Spike Lee, never liked his work either but like Tyler..he Employed a lot of our people..Infact I believe Halle Berry’s first movie was a Spike Lee production. but I could be mistaken.

He caters to a niche viewing market that has been historically ignored. A good business model. Find a market with disposable income and cater to their wants. I’m no fan, but I’m happy to read his rags to richs storey and the fact that he is giving back and hiring people who might not otherwise get jobs in that industry….just sayin…

What happened? Did someone tie you down in front of your TV set and force you to watch every episode of his shows? Drag you to his movies kicking and screaming? If you don’t want to watch it, don’t! BUT quit whining!
I’ve never seen any of his shows. They aren’t my type of humour. But my congrats to him. He came from homeless to one of the wealthiest men in Atlanta. Also one of the most “giving” people in Atlanta (and that’s more important, in my book)!
Are his works “crap?” They probably won’t win any Academy Awards any time soon but then again, he didn’t make them to win awards, he made them to entertain. AND that, they do! One person’s “crap” is another person’s “entertainment”. Go into the black community and ask a young kid if his work is crap. Then ask if ballet and opera is crap. A whole different outlook! An outlook that made him $130M!
