Catching up with Dagmar Midcap a year later

Just shy of a year ago, I met with Dagmar Midcap minutes after she had handed in her resignation at CBS Atlanta (WGCL-TV). At the Silver Skillet not far from the station in Midtown, she looked tired, depressed, defeated. She said a year after her boyfriend committed suicide, she needed to leave town.

She told me about taking sleeping and anti-anxiety pills, how she couldn’t focus on work and would have crying jags.  Within a few weeks after that interview, she had left Atlanta for good, moving to Los Angeles with Internet consultant Kyle Hudson and three dogs. (She said she and Kyle are just friends. “He’s like my brother,” she said.)

The change of scenery helped, she said. She already had a manager, Robbie Kass, who also represents former wrestler and current actress Stacy Keibler and Atlanta actress Jasmine Guy. He helped her get an agent at talent agency IMG named  Babette Perry, who also represents Phil Keoghan (”The Amazing Race”) Elisabeth Hasselbeck (”The View”) and Tom Bergeron (”Dancing With the Stars”).

“I missed the ocean,’ she said. (Prior to Atlanta, she spent time in Seattle and Vancouver.)

But Midcap continued to have health issues and nightmares. She sought alternative remedies including herbal remedies. That’s when she met Barry Kendall, a doctor who specializes in neurofeedback.

This is a controversial medical process in which individuals have electrodes placed on their head. They are then trained to change their brain waves to reduce a host of ailments, including anxiety and stress. This New York Times story last year notes that it’s seldom covered by health insurance and can cost at least $3,000 for 30 sessions.

Midcap has been going once or twice a week since March and said her world has improved significantly.

“My life has turned 180 degrees,” she said. “I”m shocked how well it’s worked. You don’t forget the people you love. The pain just has less control over you. It doesn’t debilitate you.”

She now spends her days doing yoga, walking her dogs and enjoying the beach.

She no longer has to take the anti-anxiety medicines to ward away bad memories of her ex boyfriend, whose name she doesn’t want revealed for the family’s sake. She said on July 27, the second anniversary of his suicide, she spoke to his parents for the first time in six months. “No tears, no breakdown,” she said. “I’m starting to remember the good. It was so dark and painful. I had to suppress a lot of it. Nobody talk to me about it. Now I can.”

After a few months off her blog, she reappeared on July 27, the second anniversary of her ex-boyfriend’s suicide.

I truly apologize for my silence in response to the thousands of kind-hearted people who reached out with words and thoughts of encouragement. I have not until recently, had the inner strength to respond in any meaningful way as the emotions were still too fresh and heavy to bear. For all the love that was sent my way, thank you – you may never understand how deeply it was felt.

I have taken the past year to reorganize heart, mind and body at the most profound levels. For me personally, simply standing at the waters’ edge has had extraordinary regenerative effects…

Where my renewed life will lead me is the adventure I look forward to most greatly. It might be back in front of the camera, it may be in the jungles of Costa Rica aiding wildlife conservation – or both…whatever that new path may be, my paramount desire remains to help safeguard our planet’s wondrous ecosystems while delivering joy and inspiration to all I can reach.

Midcap said she had saved enough money to last a year but she is now at a point where she needs to more aggressively seek a job. She has been networking, recently hobnobbing with Scott Sassa,  president of Hearst Entertainment & Syndication, a joint venture with Mark Burnett Productions.

“I’ve done a little bit of voice work and commercial work,” she said. “But it’s time to really get back in. I feel good.”

Ideally, Midcap said she’d like to host a TV show, perhaps something with animals, but would be willing to go back to doing weather. She cut out early on her contract with Meredith Corp. at CBS Atlanta and promised if she were to work at a TV station again, it would be in a market where Meredith does not own stations.

For context, if you’re reading this, you probably already know that Midcap came to Atlanta in 2007 and quickly made a splash as the station’s morning weather reader. Fans loved her warm voice, tight sweaters and comforting demeanor. She didn’t have a meteorology degree but didn’t pretend to be an expert on that front either.  She went from mornings to evenings within a year and soon CBS plastered billboards  of her all over town. Her sudden departure was a shock for viewers.

Kass, her agent, said they are seeking new opportunities for her and hopes something will come along soon.  He saw her on the news in Atlanta last year and approached her to be her agent because he sensed something special about her. “There are not many women,” he said, “who can fly a helicopter or ride a motorcycle. She’s fearless, not only in terms of what she’s capable of doing but in terms of her ambitions.”

You can’t keep a good person down. Glad to hear you are doing better. I still remember how you drove that new Camaro, six speed. That girl can handle this car. Maybe you could do car reviews or test drives. A pretty girl and a hot car. Can’t miss. You can only kick yourself for so long. Good luck Dagmar.

@Jake – if you don’t follow the masses – why do you respond like a tweet and why are you here – just like the masses – I’m just saying – I wasn’t mean – didn’t fuss – was very tongue in cheek, although it goes a little goofy when “she” is around – come on have some fun. If all those things you posted are true – you wouldn’t have a television – internet or social media of any kind – like I said earlier, no malice in my post – but don’t pee on my pants and tell me it’s raining, either – play along or don’t post – we aren’t breaking your fingers to do this – remember you aren’t being dictated by the world – so let us have some fun – she’s a cutey!

You have to admit – you peeked just a little bit at her – or you wouldn’t be commenting! Lemonade would be much sweeter with company like Dagmar around – you have to admit! She made lots of lemonade – a probable 6 figure salary person that didn’t know weather, but knew how to be nice to people and had a great personality (and body) and found a proper way, without being X-rated about it – she fits your mold to a T.

Maybe you don’t get it – come on, have a little fun with us – we aren’t trying to be mean – I promise!

She is as close to a perfect ten as any woman I have ever seen on television. The whole package she is. Her warm personality, disposition, looks, smarts, soul, everything. My knees would probably give out if I met her in person. What a woman. Just wow. As Mike Myers and Dana Carvey would say, “we’re not worthy!”

we can all have some fun – I’m old enough to be her dad – you are the only one that threw the security of “something at home” at all of us – I suspect we all have that very same thing – nothing in any of my comments attacked, nor did I see anyone attack you or the significant other – most of us were just posting the obvious – and you realize it, too. My 28 year “something at home that is just as fine and has a very strong mind” loves this little boy a bunch. If the masses that posted something here thought with any other part of our body, Jake, most all of us in here – except you – would be in a lot of trouble and Ms. Midcap would have restraining orders on a bunch of us. Loosen up and have fun with this – come on – we aren’t a threat to you and your sweetie, nor are we a threat to Dagmar – we just appreciated her short time on the air – she was a welcome breath of fresh air in Atlanta television. You don’t have that kind of personality come around every day. Beyond the looks, there was a very nice, sincere and genuine person – in a cardboard cut out world, that was a nice thing to have on television – someone who seemingly cared a little bit. Enjoy the day – glad to converse with you Jake – have a great day!

I used to tune into the news just to see Dagmar – Of course, it take my wife long to figure out what was going on :-) Sounds like she’s in a better place in her life, and that’s a good thing. I’m happy for her.

She need to stay out there in Los Angeles. She didn’t know how to do weather. She didn’t know meteorology. She was a joke. She had to prepped to do broadcasts and talk about the weather. Most of the people here are talking about she was great as a weather person. Please stop thinking with your penises. She may have been somewhat easy on the eyes, but horrible at doing weather reports. I’m just saying.

I always liked Dagmar. To me, watching her was like watching the sun move out from behind a cloud. She had a great smile and always made me smile. She was much more that a pretty woman in a sweater. Unfortunately, she was wasting her time and talent in Atlanta. Just watch any of the current local news program and you can see she wasn’t a good fit for this market.

I wish her nothing but the best. Been down that road of depression and anxiety. It’s not easy to pick yourself up, brush yourself off, take a deep breath and start over again. Best of luck to her.

Atlanta, the city to busy to hate. ‘Fraid not.

I miss seeing Dagmar on 46 too. I pray and hope that she’s happy and doing well.

I’m aware that Atlanta is 1 of 10 markets where Meredith owns full-power TV stations… and I do understand that she’s unlikely to return to Atlanta TV airwaves, and is unlikely to work in a TV market, where Meredith owns a station.

I could picture Dagmar possibly landing a TV weather anchor position in the L.A. market… maybe at KNBC-TV 4, perhaps. It’s just a thought.

I always wondered what happened to Dagmar and really missed her doing the weather.Yes,SHE
WAS beautiful but I did not hold that against her and just gave her a chance to forecast our weather.
She did a great job and convinced me that She knew her job well.CBS has always been my favorite
station since my childhood days before Cable T.V.Prayer changes things and so I’ll pray for her
to shake the devil off.She has to seek the LORD FOR TOTAL GRACE

I agree DeeDawg.

Markina knows meteorology, AND her curvaceous body is lovely.

It amazes me how so many white men like a woman with a nice rack, but no thighs, rump, or hips. People on here talking about Dagmar is a 10. LMAO!! Silly MOFOS like a skeleton with big breasts.

thanks rodney for the update. However now the pieces seem to be falling in place.
On kyle’s web he is in love with her and not as a brother. Check his posts. Makes one wonder what really triggered the event with her other BF? Explains the reason its been hard to get past it. I would venture the old burning the candle at both ends might be a good example. At any rate glad she is in LA as previous posters have made it clear it’s the place where fake people are. Never figured out what brought her to ATL in the first place? Sa with most transplants into the south either you love it or hate it. It’s not a good place to be if you live in a make believe world. on other blogs, there are quite the vile comments about her departure. The news directer who broght her to ATL has moved on to Philly. Maybe, the cult of dagmar is finally over. Wish her the best, but I still think a lot of the isssues she is dealing with is self induced. BTW wonder what husband #1 (mr midcap) has to say about ms midcap, never have seen any comments from him. mmmmmmmm

The comments as to kylie being a big brother, OMG she is either playing him for his pocket book, or Kylie is gay. Let’s see, move 3000 miles with a guy, he moves his business, relocates, etc. I do not buy the “big brother thing for a sec. I think she is a user. Just guessing here, I think the story about the boyfriend was a method to get released from her contract with wgcl. Probably to go out on some form of short term medical leave etc. I also wonder what kind of bank a weather presenter makes in ATL that allows a 1 year layoff before looking for a job. Get real, this whole story stinks about the main reason she left. I for one am glad she has left atl not wishing ill will towards her but i think she has realized she is past prime for acting and modeling and is worried what she will have to offer for her “talent”
