Is Stacey Dash out on VH1’s ‘Single Ladies’?

Loading ...There are unconfirmed rumors around the Web that actress Stacey Dash, a key lead on VH1’s first fully scripted drama “Single Ladies,” is being replaced for season two. “Single Ladies,” which just concluded its first season Monday night, is shot in Atlanta and set here as well.
I’ve been trying to figure out how true this is. There’s a certain level of skepticism in blog land. It’s rare for a character of such major import on a show to be dumped after just one season and “replaced” to boot. That would be like Darrin Stephens on “Bewitched” played first by Dick York, then replaced by Dick Sargent.
Jawn Murray, an entertainment writer, Tweeted about this yesterday, citing InTouch Weekly. He also said there was tension between her and LisaRaye McCoy, who plays Keisha. He heard there was “emergency casting” for a Dash replacement. And there’s always that one stickler that causes actors to lose their jobs: they demand a big raise. (Remember “Three’s Company” and Suzanne Somers? Wow. I’ve really dated myself with references to “Bewitched” and “Three’s Company”!)
Here’s the response I got from a VH1 publicist: “No casting decisions have been made for season 2 of single ladies yet..”
That is not a denial. And if something is patently false, network publicists usually work quickly to stanch the rumor. (Remember when TNT a few weeks ago was supposedly in talks with Charlie Sheen for a new sitcom? They shut that rumor down fast.) If you take what Washington said at face value, that means the other actresses aren’t tied down either. I’m kind of surprised. Usually, when actors sign on to shows, they are typically committed in contractual blood for multiple seasons. So this all sounds odd.
Or this actually means Dash is out and the VH1 publicist just didn’t want to say that because it’s not finalized or official. I will update if I get anything more concrete either way.
On the show, Dash plays glamorous single lady Val, who owns a Boutique at the Terminus building in Buckhead and has been dating a seemingly perfect guy named Jerry. Jerry says he doesn’t want to get married or have more children. Val breaks it off. Then she deals with her ex showing up again to try to get her back just as Jerry decides maybe he should give Val the ring. Yes, standard soap opera move there.
The show season one averaged about 1.9 million viewers each Monday, which is very strong for VH1 in this day and age. [UPDATE 8/10: The finale drew 2.18 million, a series high.]
[UPDATE 8/11: An insider source told me that yes, Stacey became incredibly diva-like on the set and the producers wanted her out. Then again, VH1 has not closed the door on bringing her back (thus the amorphous answer above) in hopes they can come to some sort of amicable agreement that would bring Stacey back. The polling here proves that while people here don't particularly think she's a great actress, they do think she fits the role well and like to watch her. Replacing her would be a major risk.]
[UPDATE 8/11: Did Lisa Raye have anything to do with the Stacy situation? In Facebook messages, both Lisa Raye and executive producer Stacy LittleJohn denied this. StraightFromtheA captured the Facebook messages. But also note that neither of them deny that Stacey is out. ]

I hope the rumors are not true. My son had it on in his room because he loves looking at beautiful women. So I began watching it and have begun to record the show. I like it because it tells the truth about men/women interaction. I however, think two things. I don’t like seeing the gay scenes, I have nothing against gay people) but just don’t like seeing that stuff. And the other thing is if anyone is going to get fired. LisaRaye can’t act her way out of a wet tissue paper bag. She is monotone there is no excitement in her anywhere. I admit she is beautiful and has a nice figure but in my book that is not enough for acting. Someone needs to take her and teach her how to do some “to be or not to be that is the question” She needs to do some screaming and emotions acting be bring her dull low toned voice up to some form of excitement. I kept falling asleep on her scenes. I like her see seems super kool, but as an actress, Honey, don’t quite your day job or go back to modeling where only looks count and you won’t have to say anything let alone ACT!!!!!

I am so upset that Stacey may be fired, I absolutely love her and I don’t want to see anyone else play her role, she is perfect for that character.Love the show!!!!!!! they need to replace April with Nia Long tho and then you would have Stacey, Lisa and Nia and then Lauren London as the foreign girl….Love it! love it! love it! Oh yea keep the gay guy, his role fits perfect too. Please don’t take Malcolm off his story line is exciting, plus he is good eye candy for the ladies..GREAT SHOW all around, but don’t replace Stacey…will lose viewers I’m telling you.

Why would you get rid of Stacie? She’s the only actress on the show. Without her there’s no show….period. I can’t speak for anyone else, but i doubt if it would be worth watching w/o Dash.

Well actually, Stacy Dash is the bigger/ better/fit the role atctress. She is very sexy, believable and also talented. I have watched her grow to be quite the actress. However Lisa Raye acting is still stuck on Players Club. BAD! She need more acting classes, because she is not believable. Her sex appeal looks ackward and pre- meditated, practiced and non-rehearsed. Players Club/ reality T.V., Charity Shea, well I guess that she is doing her best, with what she has been given to work with. Dont get it twisted, I do tolerate the show, but if Stacy Dash leave, VH1 Single Ladies will lose fans. Not because of the cast talents, but because she does have the biggest fan base. She dresses her but off with nice fine clothing (style), most people relate to her nose in the air flare, (the Jones) and she is also nice to look at, (beautiful). The question is? How do you all expect her to act, she has been in film with some of the best. When you put an A lister in a show with B listers this is what you get. Lisa Raye had on a black cat suit, white jacket, at Magic Johnson’s party, Hot mess. No class to it. Take another viewing, and I bet that you will see what the viewers see, stuffed. No pun intented. So ….with that said, if Stacy leaves the second season might be the last. You all are murdering your show before it starts. Stacy Dash stays where she is at, maybe Golden Brooks, Nia long, Terri Vaugh one of them could play Kiesha, and be a little Ghetto, while still looking pretty at the same time. Brittany Daneil (the Game) could replace Charity Shea. Hands Down all day. Queen Latifah you are the BOMB! Your story line/vision is the BOMB! poor acting WILL be your downfall. Peace.

And i luv lisa raye as well, but 2 beautiful ladies on the scene u will have a cat fight…. (meow). But at the same time every body is trying to work and pay there bills, and at the end of the day we wud luv for dash to come back for season 2. But if she can’t get them differences 2gether, hey i quite sure that another black women wud luv 2 walk in those same 1000 dollar shoes that she wears.. No one has perfecting timing on the show but Stacy Dash is one of the better actors on the show. When i heard that Lisaraye was on the show i said oh no everyone listen up because she can’t speake but she is trying her hardest to enunciate. I don’t know if she had anything to do with the firing of Stacy it sure isn’t hard to believe she seems like a cut throat kind of person that would dig and dig at you until she get’s her way and that is to be lead on the show. The one actor they should get rid of is the young white girl with the bad accent unless i need to get my ear check i can’t understand her either. What is her purpose on the show, why not get a young black girl for her part oh we do Omar. With that said i will not watch next seaon if Stacy Dash isn’t on….. unless her replacement is fierce. (No please!!! Lauren London can’t speake either her acting on Single Ladies was the role she played on ATL.)

This show is a beautiful, exciting fantasy. Stacey and Lisa Raye are both equally stunning, and part of what makes them that is not just their pretty faces and bodies, but how they carry themselves, and how articulate they are. I love listening to them talk. The writers add to their beauty by providing the words and thoughts of two cool characters, each different, both strong and sexy. And what they get to wear! Stunning. I love looking at them. The glamour of the fashions, the apartments, the cars, all the success, the other pretty characters, the storylines, all make this a fantasy. I love Stacey and Lisa Raye, and although there are many other elements to the show, their characters unique beauty is the biggest part of what makes the show for me. I love looking at and listening to both of them.

I love, love, love this show. I can’t wait to see it every week. Stacy is the only reason that, my husband even looks at the show. If this is true about the money, I say Stacy take your time. If you lose this job how much money will you have. You can ask for more money but do not be a baby about it. One can ask for a little more, but please try to leave food on the plate for others. We love all of you on this show, just the way it is.

I think it would be a total shame if Val were to be replaced. I’ve grown to really enjoy this show and if Ms. Dash is gone then I, along with many other viewers will be gone too. It would not be a good look for VH1 to replace the star especially when there are two proposals hanging in the balance. How would you explain another actress playing the part of Val? It just won’t work!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least get season two under your belt before you start making changes. I want to see what’s going to happen with the proposals and a fake Val just won’t cut it.

All three ladies are the perfect combination! Even if they do have differences, they need to be put aside and get this money. If it is true Stacey is requesting more money than it doesn’t hurt to ask but lets be clear this show is a hit and she has not been in anything recent pulling constant revenue in a minute; a few appearances here and there but this is the re-jump start to her career. It was a dream come true to see my two favorite actresses together. I hope they do not part ways! I have always loved and followed both ladies. I wish them the best and all the success their bank accounts can hold.

Well to be honest if Stacey Dash leaves then I will STOP watching. Lets be real its not the best acting in the world for none of the actor and actress, and Lisa Raye has always been to me a LOW BUDGET “ACTRESS”. I think Playa’s Club was her best role and that is saying ALOT for her anyway. But Stacey is BIG part of that show and maybe even the best one of them all so if it is true then they have lost viewer..

It is going to be very difficult, but not impossible to replace Stacey Dash because the created and writer put a lot into her character and outfits. However, I feel that you should stick with your agreement work with the people you agreed to work with and for the money you agreed to until the Contract is up. Then negotiate more for different terms and if you can’t come to an agreement then part ways. But, you can leave knowing you were a woman of word. But, these rumors started before the series even started.

It’s amazing how when a show or band have the receipt for success, and then quickly forget that it is “all” the ingredients that makes the show very good. Others have spoken about the diva in Lisa and Stacy. Guess what folks that’s what makes them good. The truth is that the show will lose it’s luster and sex appeal if “any” cast members are replaced. A show that averages 1.9million viewers should “never” change “anything” unless their execs and staff wants to end up in the unemployment line. The entire cast and staff should take a deep breath and realize that this show will be successful for years to come, “if” they just get along.

I only watch the show because of Stacey Dash and fine a@*** Malcolm. I’m in my forties and even I say to my husband how good Stacey looks. She is bad. And Malcolm, need I say more. Without Stacey, I could not watch the show. I like Lisa, but her acting needs work. I would not keep watching without Stacey. Well maybe a sneak peek to see Malcolm every once in a while. LOL!

We all can all sit and write about how bad the show was or how bad the actresses are but they have to be doing something to be making the money they making and living the life some of us dream of living. I enjoyed the shows and at times it had its dull moments but all in all the show told a story and that story was played by actresses who fit that role even off the set and real everyday situations.

I think Stacey Dash makes a good Val for the show “Single Ladies!” I think her look and acting is perfect for that character. I think replacing her would be a devasting shock to the show and a very big mistake! If the rumors are true. I hope VH1 and Stacey can come to some kind of agreement on things. I think losing her as Val would not be a good thing!

stacey dash is a beautiful woman BUT she is a TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE actress!!! maybe if she takes some extensive acting classes she can make this role her own, a believable role. she sounds like she’s reading each and every line from a cue card it doesn’t flow at all. i like seeing her but if vh1 can replace her with an actress that can really act, please DO..i think eventually the fans are going to tune out because of her bad acting… i enjoy “single ladies” but i want to love this show and if it wasn’t for the great acting of other cast member’s and guests on the show, esp. Malcolm, me and my tv buddies would have stopped watching. stacey dash fits the look of val but val should be more “natural” and real, not acted out and that’s what stacey does, she TRIES to act in a role…

Stacey Dash is the perfect actress, look, and style for the role. I don’t think they will find someone to replace her, and to actually fit into the role. I think VH1 will definitely lose viewers if they do that. For people to say she is not a great actress, she surely does better than “Keisha.” LisaRaye … with that monotone voice and you have to look at her face to see what expression she is trying to give us because her voice doesn’t tell us. Now, they can always get someone to replace Keisha and April … there are a few others that would take those characters to newer heights. However, I do like LisaRaye with the current Malcolm … that’s a nice match even if it was real life.
By the way … Stacey is 45.

I continue to watch the show because of Stacey’s role. While I like the other character she is the pull for me watching the show. I will add that if their is tension between the ladies, then they do what they are paid to do-Act. Stacey is a credit to Single Ladies. If the rumors are true at all, it would be a major lose for the show.
