Meet Kristin Klingshirn, new Q100 Bert Show member

230_1305120767-293x300

On a rock station in Lexington, Ky., she was called Kitten. At G105 in Raleigh, N.C., she was known as Kentucky Kristin.

Starting Monday August 8 on Q100’s The Bert Show, she is using her real name Kristin Klingshirn. Cutesy radio nicknames are off the table. That’s not this morning show’s style.

Klingshirn fills a spot left by Melissa Carter, who departed Atlanta’s No. 2 morning radio show in April on her own accord to explore new climes.

Bert Weiss, who listened to more than 200 tapes before picking Klingshirn, assiduously avoids calling her a “replacement.” In his mind, there is no replacing Carter’s unique position on the show as a calm, rational counterpoint to the other four.

“There were very few women I talked to the last couple of months who had a thick enough skin to take the, ‘That’s not Melissa Carter,’ ” Weiss said on the air last month when the announcement was made. “I think she does.”

How will Klingshirn fit in? It’s too soon to tell. Chemistry is a delicate balance. Weiss hired her because he liked her and thought she was “fearless.”

“We clicked instantly,” Klingshirn said in an interview August 3 at Lenox Square Mall. “It was right. It was a good fit.”

A Lexington native and University of Kentucky graduate, she started in radio promotions. Lexington rock station WKQQ-FM gave her time on the air to develop her craft. She moved to Raleigh in 2006.

“She has that Kentucky spirit,” said “Dead Air” Dennis Dillon, who worked with her at WKQQ. “She doesn’t balk at a whole lot. She loves sports. She likes to drink beer. She’s an outdoorsy girl. She’ll bring fire and honesty.”

At the same time, Klingshirn loves every “Real Housewives” franchise. And she’s a shoe addict, owning more than 100 pairs. During her move to Atlanta, she pared it down – a little. “Certain shoes I get attached to,” she said. “How can I get rid of that pair from spring break 1998?”

While in Raleigh on Bob & the Showgram, Klingshirn participated in all sorts of shenanigans the Bert Show generally eschews. “I’ve been attacked by dogs. I’ve been tackled by rugby players. A snake gave me a back massage,” she said. “I ate a spoonful of cinnamon. That landed me in the emergency room.”

As a teaser, Klingshirn sat in with the show for brief segments last week.

On Thursday, she opened up about her relationship with her boyfriend of five years, Bart Mattingly. Mattingly, she said, was in real estate and when the economy cratered, fell into massive debt. While he pays that off, she’s paying most of the bills.

She defended herself without getting defensive, which is how the Bert Show works: “It’s like a marriage. It works for us. I’m happy.”]

Now if they could just dump Jenn Hobby. Very annoying person, very self absorbed, very booorrringg. Wendy could easily morph into Jenn Jr if she isn’t careful — she adds very little, although I suppose she is there to appeal to the 20 something demographic. Jeff is hysterical. Love him. Hope Kristin can add some substance to counter the Jenn/Wendy drivel.

Kristin is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! Wendy, Dear, you mentioned/scoffed at the “grammar police.” You truly have no idea how many times you mispronounce and misuse words. Of course, that doesn’t bother you (ignorance is bliss), but it really does annoy a lot of listeners, who know better. Your new favorite word, “Exactly!” is already getting old. If you’re on the radio, why don’t you try to improve? I don’t get it.

Kristin just read her first news report — flawlessly. She is a professional! Love her hair in the video, too. WELCOME to Hotlanta, Kristin!!! I believe you’ll be great!!! I like you already.

I really like Kristin this morning. She’s breathing new life into a show that was getting stale. However, what will drive me away from this show is if Wendy continues to stay on the air. She is immature, unexperienced, and tries WAY to hard to be like Jenn. (which she admitted this morning) Her grasp of the English language is minimal at best and WHAT is with the southern accent that comes and goes?! Does anyone know what it takes to get someone like her off the air? Read these boards anytime something about TBS is posted. All of the comments have the same thing: no one likes Wendy. I think she’d do okay as a daytime DJ, but a talk show like this is not her thing. She can’t contribute to the show. Every other word is ‘Yeah…like I don’t know.” Or “Solid”. Get this twit off the air.

@britt – It’s easy to tell the difference if you listen to the words instead of the voice tone. Kristin is a college graduate. She also is doesn’t say “anyways” or call grown men “boys.”

Get rid of Jenn & Wendy!

Kristin is great! Now, if only they’d get rid of Jenn & Wendy! There are WAAYYY too many members of TBS, and Jenn NEVER lets Kristin get a word in edge-wise. Jenn Hobby – Puh-lease STFU!

How do we let TBS know our thoughts about Jenn AND Wendy?!

OK…So, I am not from Atlanta and have never heard The Bert Show, but I am a long time listener of The Showgram in Raleigh, and a HUGE fan of Kentucky Kristin. I looked up this page because I miss KK horribly, she was the best thing going on the Triangles top rated morning show, the best thing on all of G105. Fearless, funny, quirky, and more than able to hold her own with a group of guys that are as different (and difficult at times) and water is to air. Not to mention the voice of reason for a more than mouthy, highly opinionated patriarch.

To come to this page and read all of the horrible things you people have to say breaks my heart. If you don’t like the Bert Show, that is fine; but don’t trash talk the newbie when you know nothing about her.

Kristin, COME BACK!!!! You have missed 15 shows, and in that time, Bob has been suspended for 2.5, trashy hussies are trying to fill your (fantastic) shoes, and I don’t know about the rest of the P1’s but it is suddenly depressing to listen to the boys. Don’t stay there where @$$holes aren’t giving you a chance, come back home where you are loved!!!!!

Missin’ Kristin = Barton
I don’t read many negative comments about Kristin on this blog, @Missin’ Kristin. I think she’s GREAT! Welcome to Atlanta, Kristin Klingshirn! She’s refreshingly honest and stunning, too.

Come Back

Kristen was awesome at G105 with Bob and Mike, they all just meshed together so well. I was down in GA last week and listened to the Bert show just to check out Kristen new home and I was really disappointed. Is this what morning radio has become in Georgia since I left ten years ago??? This is a horrible morning show! It was dull and the morning DJ’s lack the chemistry needed to make a good show. Kristen is the best thing the Bert Show has going for it. Kristen come back to G105, the market may not be as big, but the quality is certainly better than the Bert Show.

Don't really listen any more but don't really care but will post anyway

This group seems to ask callers to call in about certain matters then talk down to them when they do…At least she won’t have the negative personality of the man hater that just left.
