Changes at Fox 5’s ‘Good Day Atlanta’
Buck Lanford takes over the 7 to 9 a.m. "Good Day Atlanta" slot for Mark Hayes, who remains anchor from 5 to 7 a.m.
Loading ...Fox 5’s “Good Day Atlanta,” which now airs nonstop from 4:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., is getting a line-up makeover at least through the summer.
To give WAGA-TV’s reliably hard-working Mark Hayes more time to do reporting, he will now be anchoring only from 5 to 7 a.m. (He had previously been doing a bulk of anchoring work from 4:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. with only a short break.) Hayes has worked with “Good Day Atlanta” since 2002 when he teamed with Suchita Vadlamani. She left last December and I have heard nothing about her future plans.
Karen Graham will continue to helm the 9 a.m. hour but will also take over 4:30 a.m. for Hayes. She’s been with Fox 5 for more than a decade.
Weekend sports anchor Buck Lanford, who has been with Fox 5 since 1998, will replace Hayes from 7 to 9 a.m. and also do reporting.
Gurvir Dhindsa, who re-joined “Good Day Atlanta” from Washington D.C. in March, won’t see her hours change. She will continue to work with Hayes from 5 to 7 a.m., then co-anchor with Lanford at the 7 to 9 a.m. time period. She worked at Fox 5 in the late 1990s as well.
I’m told this is not necessarily permanent but will be the lineup for the time being.

How many people who are rabid sports fanatics actually wait to get their sports news on local TV news? Not many. They have other ways to get the info they want. And probably most other people don’t care about sports anyway. So no great loss if local news drops it. 46 already farmed out their sports department and it hasn’t hurt the station. Hasn’t helped either but didn’t hurt.

They are too involved in the Red Sox and Yankees to pay attention to the Falcons, Braves, UGA etc. No one in this day “waits” to get anything.. news, weather or sports. It’s all instant. She looks like she’s wearing Cheryls clothes. Mark was the glue who held whatever remained together. He and Suchita were soooo funny together. I miss them. I watch Good Day Atlanta everyday and enjoy it. I think you are trying to be too professional on the air. Mark and Jeff make me laugh sometimes. They do not take things so serious. They have good personalities. I miss Suchita, but Stacy does a wonderful job. Karen is a local lady and we need that knowledge of Atlanta. Leave things alone!!

Would love to have Buck Belue join the show and bring his great insight for college football and baseball. Also I enjoyed Dagmar when she was on channel 46 but I don’t want to see Sandra Golden on GDA.
I watch local sports for some of the more in-depth replays and interviews than ESPN or the web provides. I hate Channel 11 though because they are pro-tech so I primarily watch Zach Klein and WSB for replays of Braves wins and the Dawgs, especially their 42-34 victory over tech.

He’s good looking, very knowledgeable about Atlanta and everything about Atlanta since he grew up right in the heart of Atlanta, his father was a life long City of Atlanta Policeman and loved what he did. I like 11’s morning news… Like Karyn Greer and Ted Hall… and will miss Jill Becker… I feel that Chesley McNeal has gotta go. I don’t particularly care for 5’s Good Day. I find 2’s morning news to be sort of bland. 46’s Better Mornings is somewhat okay… but not the same since Laura Huckabee left.

I remember Good Day being co-hosted by Amanda Davis and Paul Ossmann, and CBS This Morning (now CBS Early Show) getting pre-empted….. to me, it was very good back then. I believe that 5 used to be good when they were still a CBS station.
Today is Paul’s last day (and last night) on 11. I assume Paul may have the non-compete clause in his contract, which could keep him away from Atlanta TV airwaves for 6 months to 1 year. We really don’t know if Paul is considering jumping back over to 5.

What a disapointment when I tried to find my favorite news station and saw this wrong person sitting where Mark hayes should have been sitting.

You guys have really messed up Good Day Atlanta. Suchita needs to come back and Mark and Jeff are the anchors to the whole morning. I don’t know who’s running the ship there but someone needs to fire them. They are making poor decisions and your audience is going to move to other stations. Some of us just keep sticking around to see if you will get the show back. I’m sure the ratings are going to continue to decline.

I was born and lived in New Orleans all of my life until Katrina. When I first turned on the news it was Fox 5 there I seen Suchita Vadlamani and Mark Hayes. I enjoyed the relationship they had with each other with their playful spirit. Especially with the weather man Jeff Hill. This was a team that carried themselves very professional and like family at home. When the station remove Suchita Vadlamani. I continued to watch because of Mark Hayes and Jeff Hill. I think you guys should want your people to feel like they are in a persons home and sharing humor and playful spirit. However, Time bring on changes and changes sometimes make people move on and then ratings change. Think about it.

good day is a joke…….Gurvir is a joke, she looks like she’s 65….it is just nasty watching her on HD….the good days of suchita are gone.

Bring Mark back………..I have been changing the channel at about 7:15. Good morning America is being watched. I am waiting for Fox 5 to come to their senses and bring Mark back who knows how to deliver the news.
