HLN’s Nancy Grace loses her syndicated ‘Swift Justice’ show

This was actually reported weeks ago but I was hoping to get an interview with Nancy Grace so I could provide something truly fresh. Unfortunately, she has been so wrapped up in the Casey Anthony case, the CNN publicist hasn’t been able to track her down for me. So this is what I know:
Grace’s freshman syndicated show “Swift Justice With Nancy Grace” will no longer be starring Nancy Grace.
The program, shot this past year in Atlanta at Georgia Public Broadcasting studios in Midtown, will move to Los Angeles and be led by a new host: Jackie Glass, a judge in the Clarke County District Court in Las Vegas. Glass oversaw the 2008 O.J. Simpson case in 2008.
So what happened? The official story is that CBS Television, which produces the show for syndication, wanted to move the show to Los Angeles for financial reasons. A spokesman wrote to me that it’s cheaper to produce the show in Los Angeles than in Atlanta. Grace, who is tied to the East Coast, supposedly couldn’t deal with the distance so she dropped the show. The spin makes it sound like a mutual decision.
But it makes no logical sense. First of all, I’m told it’s seldom cheaper to shoot a show in Los Angeles because Atlanta has better tax incentives. That’s why so many shows are leaving Los Angeles for places like New Orleans, Vancouver and Atlanta. We are now one of the top 5 states in terms of TV production.
And “Swift Justice With Nancy Grace,” which airs locally at 2 p.m. on Fox affiliate WAGA-TV, was by far the most popular new syndicated program of the 2010-11 season. It nearly doubled the second most popular newcomer this past May, “Nate Berkus” with a 1.7 rating vs. 0.9 for Berkus. Among judge shows, Grace’s 1.7 matched “Judge Alex” and beat “Divorce Court” and “Judge Mathis.” (”Judge Judy is by far the most popular judge show with a whopping 6.7 rating in May.) “Swift Justice” ratings actually increased from September to May, by 21 percent, according to Nielsen numbers.
No production company in their right mind would drop a person hosting a show that broke out of the gate so big – unless something else is going on. So what is really going on? I have no idea! I will certainly write something about this if I get any insight.
[UPDATE: June 28, 2011, 5:21 p.m.: Someone reminded me that there is a possible reason why this happened. Patricia Caruso in March sued Grace in the Supreme Court in New York for $15 million over breach of contract. Caruso alleges she and Grace had agreed that Caruso would be the executive producer of the show but last year, when the show was announced, Caruso was not included. This legal complication could be a very logical reason why Grace and CBS parted ways. In fact, GPB was told the show was moving a mere days after the lawsuit was filed and I hear Grace was not pleased. The lawsuit is the likely reason Grace is not exactly jumping to talk about this situation to the media.]
For now, Grace has her night-time job at HLN firmly in hand. Her 25-54 ratings since the Casey Anthony trial began have been regularly eclipsing MSNBC and CNN. She even beat Fox News last Friday when she drew 494,000 25-54 year old viewers vs. 375,000 for Bill O’Reilly on Fox. (He still drew more overall viewers: 1.97 million to 1.69 million.)

Nancy Grace is welcome in my living room any day of the week! She is intelligent, beautiful and very professional. Sure she has made mistakes but who hasn’t. Her heart is in the right place and I sure would want her on my side if one of my kids were misssing or worse. You people always can change the channel if you are unhappy with her shows. I for one, look forward to watching her show and her news coverage is credible in my book. Keep your chin up Nancy, you are loved by millions.

I have to agree with most of the comments here. Nancy is rude, hateful and down right arrogant to ANYONE that does not agree with her. She is not fair to the victims or her guest. So you know she does not give ANY suspect the benefit of a doubt. I refuse to watch her.

YESSSSS!!! Let’s celebrate! Finally this mean spirited witch “for lack for better words” is off the air! The tone of her show has always been “harsh” in it’s tone. I agree with Bobby she has always been hateful in her demeanor and delivery. I can’t believe her show lasted this long. Good Riddance!

Making a living off missing children for days, months , years is deplorable.
Her attitude and nasal talk gets to me.

What right does Nancy have to name the Defendant Tot Mom? Casey may very well be guilty, but in a court of law should be addressed as Casey Anthony or Miss Anthony or The Defendant. Nancy is the only person on all the television shows that is or has done this!!! It is also VERY disrespectful to the Victim ( the baby) as well in this manner cause She had a name as well. This again is Nancy, playing GOD!!! She just has to put her own spin on it instead of just doing her job in a respectable, professional way!!! Some of the other forums have named Nancy Grace “Fat-Mom”. People are upset that she says “tot-mom” over and over and over and has run it into the ground thinking it must be cute. Tot-Mom Casey Anthony v. Fat-Mom Nancy Grace. Has a special ring to it.

Another reason they could be canceling her show is because it’s too much Nancy Grace going on. HLN gives her like 3 time slots a day and then she covers the weekend as well. She also gives her expert opinion on other shows covered by HLN. The woman is tied up with other things that are definitely more beneficial to her CAREER then playing judge. Leave that Judge mess to Judge Alex. Nancy Grace has bigger and better things to do.

Do you really think any credible member of the media in their right mind would use the name “Tot Mom” the way she does? She’s being paid to do these things. It’s too bad that people actually believe she’s sincere. And why would anyone in their right mind pay money to call in to her show? I’m blown away by how stupid people are. Also, you do know these analysts on her show are being paid to tow the line, right? Ever wonder why they’re always yelling when they speak? Because it elicits the right response in viewers to keep watching. I could go on and on.
Like people said earlier in here about Grace not being that way in person, I don’t doubt it. Why? Because Nancy Grace is being paid to be that way. None of this is sincere, it’s sensational because it sells. And all those who just LOVE Nancy Grace are the dumbest of all. The joke’s on you! Have fun calling in to her show at $2 a minute.

I’m turned off by her hypocrisy, holier than thou attitude, and now her “I’m a mom first,” protesting too much. She could afford to be a “mom first” and stay home and take care of her kids until they start school. She just said on her show that she would lie and take a needle for her kids like Cindy Anthony. That is not being a good parent. That’s having no integrity. Honest people do not aid their criminal children. Judge Mathis’ had a good mother. She didn’t indulge or cover-up for his bad deeds, and he turned out good, not bad, like Casey.

Nancy Grace had a dignity that the other legal programs on the television media had not. Nancy was personal and seemed more human. She was wise and knowledgeable about the legal system and helped to explain it in layman terms, so people like myself could understand the judicial process. I am sorry to hear that she will be no longer with the show. It is sad that you felt you needed to bring the judge who judged the OJ Simpson trial to replace her. I thought the OJ Simpson trial was terrible. Her book is correct – the justice system for our country isn’t for the innocent, it for the rich, powerful debaters who gamble with lives just so they can win whether or not their client is guilty or not. I feel they don’t have a conscious any more. Nancy blessed us with her views, her family and help acknowledged our American heros, our soldiers. Thank you Nancy for your wisdom and love. I hope you will find another channel that will bring your views back.

The only reason her ratings are up is because cnn is carrying the casey anthony trial not because anyone likes her. She never takes a call where anyone questions her it is always people who say they love her show. she also never has any guest who go against her. Thank god for Mr Herman who does stand up to her then she changes her guest. I never did or never will like her she does not give casey the assumption of innoncience she has had her guilty for the past three years.

Wow — I am SO glad to find this site!. I have hated Nancy for years, but watched sometimes because I was interested in some cases. She has definitely gotten much worse, and now that I have been watching the Casey Anthony case I see that she is also a liar. I thought she was rude, crude, and all the things mentioned here, but I was shocked to find out that she makes things up and lies about a lot. How can those nice people on her show stand it??? If she, indeed, is a nicer person in ‘real life’ why doesn’t she act like it on TV? I would think that empathy and kindness would go a much longer way than being grossly rude. I LOVE Jean Casarez, and she could take over Nancy’s show at the drop of a hat!!!

Nancy Grace is a bigot who believes that no one is ever innocent. Her sarcasm is mean and spiteful, not the funny Jerry Seinfeld sarcasm. If she is on, my tv is turned to anything else even a test pattern. The only time her ratings are up on CNN, and u can check this out because I just did, is during big trials, i.e. Casey Anthony. I wish CNN would dump her too. The times for bigots is over. She judges EVERYONE on her own morals and beliefs. Please CNN kick her to the curb.

I am surprised that Nancy Grace is allowed to spread her venom on her television show. Today Casey Anthony was found to be Not Guilty of the major charges against her following the death of her little girl Caylee. Yet Nancy Grace is still going on, defaming her and continuing to call her Tot Mom. What next? Will Nancy lead a lynch mob to kill Casey? It seems to me that Nancy and HLN are leaving themselves open to a defamation of character suit. I suggest that Nancy Grace should be dumped, for clearly she is disgraceful.

Nancy Grace come off on TV as:
1. As fake as three dollar bill. She can go from sweet to hateful in a heartbeat.
2. She says “unleash the lawyers,” like they are tied up out back on a leash, then treats them like dogs if they don’t agree with her.
3. There is rarely a night that goes by, that her tongue is telling her crew to turn off a mike a guest is using.
4. She chews out her crew many times when they don’t put up the correct picture for the TV viewing audience.
5. Why does CNN tolerate such a winch?
6. She is constantly talking about her fiancee, rarely about her husband.
7. Remember when she put the pictures of the twins on all of the time? I want to see the program, not her kids.
8. Put someone on that can conduct themselves in a professional manner.
9. You need to see a psychiatrist to help you get over what happened in the past. It is not the fault of your guest that you can gloat over time and time again, and then cut their microphone to show your hatred for them. Nancy Grace you are one sick human being, that needs to be fired. Just GO AWAY!

There is two sides to every story, isn’t it time we hear both sides that can be fair to the defendant. Did you see the prosecution the other day, laughing, snickering and poor Baez got tired of him, and the Judge rightly halted the summation. But I can’t blame Baez for his outburst. The jury had to see this ugly side of the prosecution. Could it have cost them the case?
Don’t you get tired of all the women phone calls, why does Nancy Grace hate all men? It is so obvious, watch her show her hatred toward so many “UNLEASHED LAWYERS.” Isn’t that awful, she needs to be given a pitch into a shark infested tank.
