Oprah ratings best in 19 years

“The Oprah Winfrey Show” finale on Channel 2 WSB-TV Wednesday drew the highest ratings in at least 19 years, based on a sampling of markets that are measured daily.

It will take a bit longer to calculate the nationwide numbers but it may exceed 15 million viewers.

In Atlanta, she drew a 16.1 rating, which is nearly triple her normal number. That comes out to loosely, 600,000 people. The “American Idol” finale, in comparison that same night, drew a 22.6 share or more than 900,000 viewers in metro Atlanta.

WSB-TV debuted its 4 p.m. newscast Thursday to replace her.

Oprah will now move to Los Angeles and focus on her new OWN cable network, which has underperformed since its debut earlier this year.

Other than Oprah’s departure… we’ve got the upcoming departures of ABC daytime soaps ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’. Rumor has it that surviving ABC soap ‘General Hospital’ may not be safe either.

Oprah posted a YouTube video message aimed at soap fans… stated that she can’t and won’t save our soaps… and a lot of soap fans saw it as a slap in the face. As a soap fan, I believe she picked the right time to end her daytime talk show.

Again, I’d be willing to settle with AMC and OLTL going back to their original half-hour format. I’m also praying and hoping that NBC or another network may be willing to step up and save the soaps, before it’s too late. I truly believe all the daytime soaps have such potential at once again becoming great shows… and keeping true to their promise of “Love in the Afternoon”.

why doesnt anyone point out that the DIVA Obama Winfrey already had the Oxygen Network which is a disaster and her new one is not doing well. I guess everyone but Queen Oprah is sick of Gail King. One last thought, when will O Magazine quit putting skinny Oprah photos on the cover and go to current fat oprah pictures.

Rodney tell us about the ratings for Ch2 news at 4 comnpared to what Oprah was getting. I get that local news is cheaper and then might be more profitable for wsb but do people really need 3 hours of local news and weather from 4-7? I dont get it. I much rather watch syndicated shows or at least produce an interesting local talk/lifestyle shows like affiliates in other major cities have. Ch2 has lost me at 4p

I was quite surprised she said “Jesus” and “God” throughout her show, but my question is why did it take 25 years?
