Did Hines Ward win ‘Dancing With the Stars’?

Hines Ward winning

Georgia has its first “Dancing With the Stars” winner in Hines Ward, the second NFL player to win the mirror-trophy ball after Emmitt Smith.

“Starting this competition, I never thought I’d be in the finals,” Ward told host Tom Bergeron. The class act he is, he then thanked his dance partner Kym Johnson, the judges and fans.

While Pittsburgh held a big party for him, he also thanked the Bulldog Nation, too.

Ward may not have been as technically good a dancer as third-place finisher Chelsea Kane, but he combined heart, skill and determination into an unbeatable combo. His judges’ scores over two nights tied Chelsea with 89 out of 90. Runner-up Kirstie Alley had lower scores. Her fans helped her leapfrog Kane but not enough to beat Ward.

Hines, You have been my favorite all season and if you couldn’t win I was hoping Kirstie would. Good job and keep that wonderful smile on your face always.

I am a diehard Tech fan, but Hines is the greatest athlete that ever played for UGA. He played every skilled position to be played. He will be in a hall of fame somewhere. If Dawg fans want to embrace a hero, look no further, Hines is the man.

I despise all what the bulldawg nation represents, but Hines is a true adopted-Georgian and true southern gentleman. Congrats young man and thanks for bringing a little class back to GA.

Rodney, that’s just YOUR opinion that Hines wasn’t as technically good a dancer as Chelsea Kane, and fortunately the majority of the fans didn’t agree with you.Never in the 12 years that I have watched DWTS, have I replayed the dances performed by anyone as much as Hines and Kim and that’s saying a lot.Plus, if I had heard that little girl, say one more time “we are the youngest couple”, I was getting ready to puke. Youth does not always translate into being the best. I was also rooting for Kirstie, if Hines fell short.

Didn’t watch but maybe one or two shows this year…most seemed about the same to me. Chelsea was so annoying I’d have ‘voted her off’ rather than to win.
What I was impressed with was Kirstie Alley and her partner. You know this had to be one bit**in hard competition for them, but they never backed down and never gave up. I am very proud for Kirstie and all she achieved, and to her partner for being a gentleman, and a firm believer in a lady who wasn’t youngest, strongest, skinniest, or sexiest but dang sure didn’t move like a 60 year old overweight lady. Kudos to them both.

I am pleased that Hines won the mirrored ball. Hines was determined to win this competition and he put forth the work to do so. Hinee has always been a fine example of what a winner in life should be – well mannered, thoughtful, sincere, positive attitude, hard working, and a genuinely good person. He is a true southern gentlemen and he makes me proud.

Congratulations to Kirstie for being such a trouper…a fun and formidable competitor. You did your thing!

Sher Lock you’re a RUDE ASS! Hines did a fantastic job! But Kirstie is not a whale. Being an overweight person is not any fun. I for one am so very proud of Kirstie, for having the courage, guts and determination to get out there and do something about it. She is a remarkable role model for people who think just because they are up there in years and out of shape that it is never too late. I hope you Sher Lock fall flat on your face and BREAK your freakin NOSE!

FUNNY… you are 100% right after Emmitt scored his victory, Florida won just about every SEC championship maybe 7 or 8 in football and or 3 National Titles as well. There is a difference. Florida had really good coaches.e have what we have.

Well deserved win for a class young man. Kristie aka Miss Piggy should have been sent home the second week. Can’t believe her partner actually thought she would win. Silliest 60 year old woman on the planet.

I am raising 3 older adopted children to be productive people that give back to the world. I use various means to help them understand how a person should act and treat others.. Hines determination and class has been one of the beast examples to use. Thank you Mr. Ward for being there to show such important values to everyone …especially young folks. You are a product of your family. Congrats to them as well.

Congrats to Hines and Kym – the most entertaining couple on the floor all season.

I for one am so glad the Kirstie – Shamu the Whale -Alley didn’t win it…..yeah she lost weight but she is a fatty and once a fatty always a fatty – betcha she has gone back to hogging down the doughnuts this morning. She is a show biz fizzle and was looking for something to help resurrect her carrer. She is kinda like the Rapture thing that was supposed to occur last week – she just didn’t happen. So Kirstie go away – we don’t want to see you out to dance again. I am just glad Max didn’t get hurt trying to lift you.

Hey Ol Yeller….I agree totally with you my friend! Hines was one of my fav’s while playing at Georgia! I was at Grant Field in 95 when he was asked to play quarterback due to injuries sustained by the starting qb. Since he’s gone on to greater accomplishments he is even more revered and respected by the Bulldog Nation. He and Robert Edwards beat the hell out of Florida in 97….almost by themselves! He is a prime example that no matter what the familial circumstances, a parent (who gives a &*%!) who is committed to raising their child… can produce children with confidence, character, and brains. All his momma did was work three jobs…always had his breakfast on the table, and sent him out the door each morning knowing he was loved! What a testament to responsibility and commitment!! It did not hurt that his mom is Korean too!!!! Hines…you are, and always will be the man!!! My favorite Dawg of ALL TIME!!!! Go Dawgs!!!!

Buckeye,

You are just jealous because the only headlines and news about your OSU team has involved cheating and cover ups. Your school has even abandoned your coach and he has to pay for his own lawyers. He has got to be desperate to use the same lawyer as Auburn.
I would like to know though, if you know a good dealer of cars in the OSU area. I would like to buy a used late model car, for a good price and I heard , that OSU players said, you can’t beat the deals they got.

Just saw all of the DWTS cast on Good Morning America and Lard Butt Alley said she is going back to the big screen – well to get her big butt to fit on the screen they will have to use a screen the size of a drive in movie screen – she is washed up, no talent – would not waste one dollar to go see a movie with her in it…..she just needs to retire and eat doughnuts….

I was hoping for a Hines win because he was the best performer and he is a Dawg, but I agree that Chelsea was the best technical dancer all season. How could the fans vote her third in a DANCE competition? Nevermind, I guess I answered my own question – a “fans” vote is by definition very subjective.

hines & kym were the best duo. Chelea was the best celebrity (her partner too over top like a male stripper or something, as annoying as little fruit bruno). Kirstie’s partner was best pro dance (kirstie got the over weight old handicap). Kirstie should have been elimated weeks ago.

Kudos to Hines and Kym! It was close! The final three were a real final three, but I gave all my votes to Hines and Kym! Can’t believe that Chelsea came in third. But again I believe they were all good at the end with the edge to Hines! I was glad for the lack of drama which I guess others thought was boring. It was nice to focus on dancing!

While Chelsea may have been technically better, Hines was more entertaining!! Fans don’t vote for great technique, fans vote for what entertains them. That why the show has 3 judges who know about technique, their scores are combine with the fan vote to determine a winner. And secondly, as a die hard fan of DWTS, Chelsea’s samba was a repeat from a another season. Not her fault but people were not wowed by something they had already seen. And if you have any doubt as to why Hines won, check out his Freestyle!!!!

For the record, there is a link to this on the Sports page, so lay off the football fans.

@Buckeye, maybe Eddie can get a tatoo of the disco ball if he wins. I hear they come at a premium in Columbus. ;-)
