Reggie Gay creates new gospel station at AM1310

reg-bio2

Reggie Gay, who has worked at several other R&B and gospel stations in town, earlier this month took control of his own at 1310 AM/WPBC-AM, calling it Reggie AM 1310.

For several years, it was Radio Korea and for about five seconds, a progressive talk-show station called the King. Before it was a Korean format, it was Hispanic. And long before that, it was gospel.

The station’s signal is out of Decatur and can be heard mostly inside the perimeter.

In an interview, Gay said he’d like to focus more on local artists and provide an advertising home for folks who feel alienated by FM gospel station Praise 102.5, the most popular gospel station in the nation.

“I want to create a brand for local gospel radio stations,” he said. “We’ll pay attention to what they don’t pay attention to.” He has no beef with Praise. He’s just hoping to find a niche that is hopefully viable enough to keep the lights on.

Gay over the past 20 years has worked at Kiss (when it was at 104.7), Glory 1340, …

‘Celebrity Apprentice’ recap, episode 8: the wrath of Star Jones!

LaToya’s departure

  • That’s fine with me.
  • It should have been Star!
  • It should have been NeNe!
  • It should have been someone other than those three!

Gary Busey’s departure doesn’t mean drama is gone, too. Why? NeNe Leakes is still around!

Again, she brought her insecurities out into the open while continuing to play her “I’m keeping it real” reality.

At the start of episode eight, NeNe was still smarting over  LaToya Jackson’s comment from last week that said she’d stay in touch with everybody on her team – except NeNe.

Then she said a bunch of whoppers, at least to people who know her from  “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

“I cannot understand what I”ve done to her personally for her to say that,” NeNe said. (Um… how about that Casper crack and about how she’s been living off her Jackson name all these years?)

“I don’t know anybody I hate,” she said. (Really? Kim Zolciak?) “And I have had people do some really bad things to me over …

Nick Cannon starts new countdown show on V-103

AP

Nick Cannon – actor, stand-up comic, TV host, radio personality – is about to become a daddy. But that hasn’t stopped his workaholic ways. He just keeps adding more to his plate.

Starting Saturday morning, April 23, he will be heard locally on V-103 doing a new weekly syndicated countdown music show. You’ll hear him do a top 20 urban music countdown. (He also does a pop version but not here.)

“I’ve been in the music industry the majority of my life,” said the 30-year-old husband of Mariah Carey in an interview with me Friday afternoon by phone from New York. “I’ve always paid attention to what’s going on the charts.”

Cannon already does a morning show at a top 40 station (WXRK-FM 92.3) in New York City, something he launched in January, 2010. He hopes to syndicate that as well down the road. “I love how intimate radio can be,” he said. “I’m at my best there talking directly to the people.”

He is emulating Ryan Seacrest in many ways by hosting a popular TV show (”America’s …

McDonough cake maker Ashley Vicos gets her own Food Network show ‘Have Cake, Will Travel’

SOURCE: Food Network

There seems to be a gluttony of cake-themed  reality shows on two cable networks. TLC currently feeds viewers “Cake Boss” and “D.C. Cupcakes” while Food Network serves up “Last Cake Standing,” “Cupcake Wars” and its newest offering, “Have Cake, Will Travel.”

“Have Cake, Will Travel” focuses on Ashley Vicos, a vivacious McDonough mom of three who runs a specialty cake business. She builds massively complicated, audaciously impressive cakes at prices that could buy you a brand new car: don’t call if you don’t have at least $20,000 to spare.

Now who would spend such a ridiculous amount on something that could get consumed in less time than it takes to cook a turkey?

“Big corporations, rodeos and rock concerts will spend $500,000 on a party,” she said. “What I charge for a cake is nothing to them. And oftentimes, it feeds 4,000 people. That works out to $5 or $10 per serving. It only seems crazy if you look at the final number.”

Vicos began her cake-making …

Charlie Sheen, arguably the most media-saturated celebrity since he was booted from CBS’s “Two and a Half Men,” managed to keep his rabid, rowdy fans mostly in check at the Fabulous Fox Theatre Thursday night.

If anything, the crowd, which filled more than three quarters of the theater, practically superseded the actor. For much of the first hour, hecklers dominated the proceedings, yelling his various catchphrases at him (”Winning!” “Warlock!” “Tiger Blood!”) no matter what he did. Two women, cited as Pink Pony strip club performers, locked lips in the front row, much to Sheen’s amusement.

This was the 14th show Sheen has done in the past three weeks, a journey which included at least two early performances that resulted in a cascade of catcalls and early departures.

He has since refined the show, adding comic and roasting expert Jeffrey Ross to guarantee …

Former associate of Keyshia Cole featured on ‘America’s Most Wanted’ April 23

Mug shot of Wisdom Jeffery

Mug shot of Wisdom Jeffery

Most of the time, being on a reality show is a potentially good thing,  but when it’s “America’s Most Wanted,” that is rarely the case.

In a case that was barely covered by the media at the time,  Wisdom Jeffery allegedly shot Corrissa Friends to death last August in Riverdale.  In a story on Fox 5, federal and state agents were seeking Jeffrey as the likeliest culprit. What wasn’t said at the time was that Jeffery used to work with R&B singer Keyshia Cole.

But eight months later, the case is cold. The cops are now using Fox’s sturdy “America’s Most Wanted,” which draws five million viewers every week and has found more than 1,000 fugitives over the years. Angeline Hartmann, who used to work at Fox 5, is airing the story this Saturday night at 9 p.m. (I also was treasurer of the Asian American Journalists Association Atlanta chapter when she was president.)

Friends, whose family runs Southern Friends Car Wash, was in high school when she and Jeffery …
