NBC is trying to create yet another fashion-related TV show, this one called “Fashion Star” and starring Elle MacPherson as a host.
The show is seeking fashion designers today in Atlanta from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Art Institute of Atlanta-Decatur in Decatur.
While Lifetime’s “Project Runway” focuses more on couture, high-end fashion. This show is seeking designers who will create clothing for the average person. Here is info from the press release:
“Fashion Star” is designed not only to groom and discover America’s next popular brand, but through an exciting new format twist, it will allow viewers at home to buy the winning designs each week. The show will target real-time consumer feedback and interactivity and will span all categories of fashion from suits and dresses to lingerie, denim, bathing suits, shoes, accessories and more.
The series will give 12 unknown designers the chance to win a multi-million dollar contract to launch their line in America’s largest retail stores. Each week, the designers will be put through a variety of challenges that will push them to further develop and expand their brands.
And this is what MacPherson told the New York Daily News:
The show will be “completely different from anything on American television. We’re not looking for someone to create a couture dress for the Oscars. We want someone who can design lingerie, swimwear, denim – accessible things that regular people wear.”
The network did not say when the show will air.
