FX’s cheeky animated series “Archer,” created by two Atlantans Matt Thompson and Adam Reed, has been given a third season.
The spy spoof has done better this season from its freshman year, averaging around 1 million viewers every Thursday night. It will get 16 more episodes, with three in the fall and 13 more next year.
FX also renewed its big hit “Justified” for a third season (2 million-plus a week) while canceling “Lights Out,” which disappointed with only 800,000 viewers a week.
Thompson this morning sent email out to me:
with Adam yesterday, after the news was official. His feet are sore and he is taking a few days off the trail at some sort of fancy spa thing. In between Sangria sips he conveyed how excited he is to get back to work on ARCHER.Words like refreshed and recharged were bandied about quite frequently.Additionally, our team of drawing elves just cracked some champagne (cheap stuff) and are quietly (but excitedly) nibbling on saltines. All of us, are excited about the challenge of making our third season the best thing we have ever done.I mean that with all honesty. You ask if there are more stories out there for Archer.I look at it the other way – there are too many stories, too much fun to be had and we are ready to go.
