Rashan Ali leaving V-103 after just one year [UPDATES included]

Rashan Ali announced on air today that she is leaving V-103 after just one year.
She said she’d like to pursue a full-time career on television. V-103 decided not to renew her contract after her last one was up. But they did allow her to announce her departure on air, which isn’t all that common in this day and age.
“It had been toiling in my heart for a month,” she said in an interview after the show. “We just decided it would be best on both ends. It’s all in positivity. I can walk away with my head held high.”
After having a baby, Ali came back to radio last year excited for the opportunity to reunite with Ryan Cameron, who helped get her on radio in the first place. The pair worked for several years on Hot 107.9. After Cameron left for V-103 in 2004, she stayed behind to host the morning show. She lost her job at Hot in 2009 after the station opted for a syndicated Rickey Smiley show.
“It was the most obvious place for me to go” after Hot, she said a year ago. “It fit so perfectly.”
In a poll I posted at the time, an impressive 82 percent liked the reunion.
But she said today that her passion for radio wasn’t quite there as it had before. “I have to do what makes me smile,” she said. “I have to go at TV full speed ahead. Ryan is my mentor and my big brother. He’s been supportive.”
[UPDATE 11 p.m. March 24: I've heard from two inside sources that Ali wanted the mid-day job Ramona Debreaux ended up getting and was not happy when she didn't get it. I have not heard back from Ali about whether that factored into her decision-making.]
[UPDATE: noon, March 25: I hear that Elle Duncan is set to return to Cameron's afternoon show to replace Rashan. Elle's brief foray in the mornings, I fathom, may not have worked out so well. Curiously, Elle was on this morning. Wanda Smith was not. If this actually does happen, it would be Elle's third move in two years. She had already gone from Ryan's show to mid-days to mornings in relatively quick fashion.]
[UPDATE: 11:09 p.m., March 27: Rashan responded to the allegation she was peeved about not getting the mid-day job. She said in a Facebook message to me today that this was not the case at all: "I was nothing but ecstatic when Ramona got the gig! She is a talented veteran and deserved to finally have her own show. Being 'livid' (as you stated) is not even in my character. But that's neither here nor there because people will believe what they want. As I told you when we spoke, this was something that had been pulling at my heartstrings for a while so knowing that CBS Radio did not want to move forward with me either only confirmed what my spirit had been telling me. This is a faith walk and I don't expect a lot of people to understand."]
On air, Ali dismissed a rumor. “No, I’m not going to ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta,’ ” Ali said at 5:46 p.m. today on air. “My husband said no three years ago. Then they said no to me!”
She said she is doing some substitute hosting on WXIA-TV’s “Atlanta & Company” April 15 and 18 and some NBA-related TV work.
Today was her last day.
Funny. I was supposed to visit the studio today to interview Debreaux about her new mid-day gig but Reggie Rouse, the boss, inexplicably canceled at the last second.

I wish Ms. Ali the best, but I am glad that she is leaving though. She and Ryan Cameron just do not fit for me. I truly miss Ryan and Elle Duncan at 2 PM, but Elle is now on the morning show with Frank and Wanda at 6 AM, and I listen to Tom Joyner in the morning!! I sincerely hope that the next co-host with Ryan is a better fit and I also hope that they keep the same format with a younger female co-hosting with Ryan at 2 PM. I vote for Elle to come back to the 2 PM slot with Ryan!!

It sounds like she got fired to me and that there was a shake-up going on at V103 today. It’s funny that an interview with Ramona was abruptly cancelled on the same day that Rashan abruptly announced her resignation. If she’s moving on to better things, I’m surprised that she didn’t announce earlier for her fans. It’s just really fishy.

I believe Rashan will be alright. She has a gig on NBA TV and was well received on Atlanta & Company on 11 Alive as a fill-in, so she has some potential to do quite well on TV. She’s a nice looking young lady, so she has talent and looks to go along with it.

I think they fired her but they offered her a better severence package for announcing that it was a mutual decison and amicable split. She doesn’t have a fulltime job anywhere. Oh, so she’s leaving V103 to chase her dreams? I don’t buy it. Notice the author says it was “funny”, there’s an underlying message. the author is saying he doesn’t buy it either. There’s been a lot of abrupt changes there in the past couple years. What happened to Porsha Fox? Why did they move Elle without having a replacement? Hmmmm….

Rashaun had great chemistry with Ryan, and I loved them together, however I hate him being a solo act. He needs a great co-host and why couldn’t they wait for Friday to be her last day. I want them to put Elle back on his show, because she’s a waist of space on the morning show. Rashaun does look like Vanessa Bell Calloway and I wish her the best! I agree with the last post, Wanda is super ghetto, and at times she can be sweet, but other times she comes off like an uneducated koon, who has no compass of life, and has never been outside the hood. If it wasn’t for Frank she wouldn’t have any culture about certain things. Frank would be better off with a female co-host who wasn’t so loud and ghetto!

Please do not pair Ryan with Elle. Elle once was promoted to the midday program but failed so the Station moved her to the 3rd wheel role for the morning show. She is trying to take over but Frank is adamant about her staying in her place – 3rd wheel. Mrs. Ali was rough-ish in speak but a good foil for Ryan. Best regards to her in future endeavors.

I agree with all the Wanda comments but they keep her around because she appeals to the masses. Just read most of the comments on here and you’d be able to tell how stupid the general public really is.
@PrettyBrown, I heard her say that stupid ish, I knew she was gonna gain that weight back selling that gimmicky weight loss shake, that mess doesn’t work. She hasn’t exercised or actually changed her eating habits so she will always be fat.

Truth is that Ryan wasn’t happy with Rashan anyway. He felt she hadn’t grown since the last time they were together. He liked her personally but professionally he expected her to be better than ever and that never happened. Elle is at V because of Ryan to begin with. The 2 Live Stews and Ryan are great friends. Don’t forget Elle came from The 2 live Stews. Elle couldn’t hold down the midday spot because she couldn’t connect with her audience but she is the least expensive at that station. Even radio stations had a hit with advertising dollars. Yes, V is a contender but they still aren’t pulling in the money they used to pull in making it harder to explain the inflated salaries of some of the on-air talent. Porsche Foxx had a substance abuse problem before and they gave her a 2nd chance. She just needed some additional help to kick the addiction. Ultimately her unable to pass a drug test was her demise. But the station did give her a 2nd chance because listeners absolutely loved and connected with her. Ramona has been around for awhile and was just waiting for her chance. She thought she had the brass ring when Porsche was gone but then got blindsided by the choosing of younger Elle. However, she waited it out and now she has the spot she wanted for so long. Meanwhile Elle was demoted to having her “parents” babysit her in the morning. Elle is young and she is growing and they wanted to give her a chance being she doesn’t rock the boat and Ryan loves her. Radio has a way of pretending everything was mutual but that is not true. Rashan has a new baby and so far, all I see are 2 dates that she will be employed in the future. Joyce Littel is gone with no replacement at night. Elle was taken off of middays with no replacement. But they all will find what is right for them. Pay cuts are also on the way. Joyce Littel’s salary = acquiring Rashan. Elle is so cheap to hire it is not even funny but smart for her for the experience.

what little that I’ve seen of her, I like her. I think she did GREAT on ATL & Co and the few little movie cameos I’ve seen her do. Keeping her chained to that block was a dis-service to radio listeners and one of the main reasons I only listen to V in passing when I’m scanning stations ’cause nothing else is on the dial at the time. Her intelligence, potential, appeal and contribution to the show were consistently squashed and I’m surprised the women of this town listened to that mess without complaining for a year. She’s a trooper for being able to make it (and take it) that long.
They’re downright degrading and patronizing at this point – pretty much the entire daytime on-air staff – and suspect Tara Thomas started this exodus ’cause women on the inside who do say anything about it or try to change it are quickly silenced. I’m not surprised Rodney didn’t get to talk to Ramona today. Sounds like b.a.u. – business as usual – at “The(m) People’s Station.”
I’m sure Rashan’ll fly now that she’s on her own, on tv and can actually give an articulate and informed opinion without being hacked down by some man’s middle-aged ego smushed inside a teenaged brain attached to an infantile mouth. She also has a tv face, appeal and personality and seems to have genuine class, as exemplified by the dignified way she made her exit. Can’t quite say that about the folks she just left behind.
Good luck, V. I guess as long as Titlemax keeps buying ad time and only a few cute little girls are writing letters to rappers complaining about the crap you insist on playing, you’ll keep on with the coonery, losing more lifetime listeners (and darn good staff WOMEN) everyday.

Here’s the deal: Rashan got passed over the mid-day jock spot. Rashan was livid about that. She threatened to leave. The Station’s resident Fat Albert, aka Reggie Rouse, and that other guy who looks like Fire Marshall Bill Burns, Rick Caffee, called her bluff. Long story short, Ramona got the job, so Rashan had “ta get ta steppin’.” And that’s all she wrote. Full stop, period, end of THAT story, for now. But get this, Ramona is just a foil, cause she’s not gonna have this job for long. Insiders tell me, the CBS pimps at V-103 are really anglin’ to get Porsche Foxx back into the fold. Evidence of that is all the noise she’s makin’ on Facebook lately. Seems like she’s got a commentary on almost every hood-related current event going on these days. Great observation RealRadioScoop! It’s crazy down at the V, what’s up with all the extras hanging around? It’s chaos down there. The station hasn’t been that great in a long time. I for one can not tolerate Ryan Cameron. I know he pulls in the ratings but I find him to be extremely silly. That was fine years ago, before he married and covered the evening set, but now it’s old. Even when he’s serious it doesn’t hold my attention because I know eventually his silliness will take over in record time. Radio is about commercials.

I was an avid V-103 listener, but as of late I find myself switching to other stations such as Q100 and Jazz 91.9. I just feel that as the radio personalities on V-103 get older in age, they are becoming less mature in their conversation. For one, the morning show is trash from Frank on down to Elle. Frank is having a mid-life crisis which is evident in him using the term “make a movie” as if he’s in his early 20’s. Secondly, Wanda uses bad grammar and doesn’t know how to properly apply “s” to words as in to signify possession or plurality. Thirdly, Elle is ok except for when she goes off on a tangent and “goes in” on things that are unimportant. Ramona is great. She’s the best personality on V-103 at this present time. Ryan is cool, but I feel that he benefits from having a co-host. Ryan is too intense sometimes. He needs someone to help mellow him out. Finally, Greg street is just like the female version of Wanda. He yells at the mic and can’t really have a non-hood conversation. I prefer the guys from the take-over instead. At least they are young and you would expect them to speak like that. In closing, bring Joyce Litel back. I remember when the quiet storm had substance. Now all they have is Trey Songz ever two songs.

Food for thought: Would you let your 16-18 year old date a Hank Stewart or Luscious? Then why is it okay to have the station promote these middle-aged men as some type of chocolate/caramel wonders to your young? Both of these men are old enough to be the father of a 23yr old+. Yes it is okay for Wanda to drool for a 104.1 or 97.5 but I think the station doesn’t do a good enough job to remind her of her demo. Feels a little “old guy in the club with chest hair and kangol”!

@Real Radio Scoop, you do know that V-103 doesn’t just compete only with Hot 107.9? It also competes with Kiss 104.1 and Majic 97.5/107.5 as well. That’s why they have event promotions that caters to 25+ year old adults as well as 12-18 year olds. V-103’s target demographic is 18-49 year olds. That’s why beat both Hot and the 2 UACs in ratings

I haven’t listened to V-103 in years. Actually since Mike Roberts left. Frank, Wanda and Elle are all a joke. They are setting us back at least 50 years. Elle is annoying and Wanda is so hood. Frank is a hypocrite. This show has not been the same since Mike Roberts left. We accept anything and V-103 in the mornings is just that. Occasionally they will have a decent topic that they are discussing but mainly is coonery.

Rashan has always had the complex of making it clear she thinks she’s more important than she really is. A listers don’t even go around stomping their feet like a two year old saying “don’t you know who I am?!!!” She’s always had this dating back to working at Left Eye Productions before she won the contest on Hot that got her into radio. Plain and simple, she pulled another ultimatum. Ramona is much less drama and has been with V longer.

Listen to any other morning show produced for the Atlanta market and one thing becomes clearly apparent, low brow is reserved for African Americans. The morning show’s cast of characters routinely tackle topics none of them have a full grasp of…Frank walks a fine line between that half of hip hop culture that detrimental to the progress of African Americans (the interview with Big Meech’s mother, his praise of gucci mane and any other jigga boo rapper, spinning in the club on weekends at 50 years old and spitting the inspirational vitamin by monday etc..) and the worship of materials and superficial bull. Think about it, they gave us Ms. Sofia, we still have Wanda, one could not even deliver an informative entertainment report, the other is not equipped to offer any insight on any topic, what the hell?

I wish Rashan the best. Hopefully Ramona will take this opportunity to be a lot better than she was on HOT. Greg is a waste of good airtime. They should have let him go a long time ago. He’s extremely ignorant, a hypocrite and way to old (47 or 48) to host show with an audience primarily made up of kids. Although at times he acts like a kid (twitter and youtube beefs with Jermaine Dupree or anyone else he’s mad at or jealous of at the moment). Wanda can be annoying at times, but Elle is the worst. Loud, ignorant at times and flat out irritating. I agree that Frank and Ryan can be arrogant at times.

I am one of those lucky contest winners and I have been winning since 1977 and Elle is the ONLY dj (when she was on mid days) who was in the middle of taking my info down and just blatantly hung up on me in mid sentence. I guess she didn’t like the way I sounded??? I am really not shocked though sadly, she had enough of my info to call me back if it was a dropped call, but nope I hear her congratulating someone else like it is the real deal. That is why I don’t listen to V103, it was a very low and nasty way to treat a listener. So if she is demoted or whatever-it figures.

I met Wanda Smith at Atlantic Station. She was very nice, polite and down-to-earth.
She is a comedian and moved into radio. Many entertainers are different in their private lives.

V103 needs to make some major changes because they just keep recycling old talent who shouldn’t be on the air in the first place! What about some of the weekenders? Why can’t one of them be paired with Ryan to give them a chance? It is good that Rashan left that coonery behind so she can move on to something more professional and uplifting. As for the morning show, it’s time for some fresh new talent. Ryan needs another co-host. And it is time for Greg to hang up his headphones.

Numbers don’t lie…Rashan was in dead last place in middays at Hot and Ramona was always top 3 or 4 in the market. Almost every promotion at Hot is pushed towards morning drive and she STILL beat ATeam numbers 90% of the time. Rashan can’t even work the equipment. I worked at both Hot and V, V first before coming to TV and I can tell you there is no one who can do what Ramona can. She didn’t just wait it out, she sounds great and she worked outside of the station too. People should get a real work ethic and develop their talent instead of expecting to be handed everything.
Ryan helped every one of those women except Ramona. What did they do with it?
Already PDs are talking about the numbers since V put Ramona in. Check the facts and the numbers ppl.

Seems to me that V103 has been making a lot of mistakes lately. I think that Rashan and Ryan were a good combo. When El Duncan didn’t do well at the afternoon slot, they axed Sophia (entertainment news) and created a full time place for her on the Frank and Wanda Show. I repeat, The Frank and Wanda Show.

Good luck Rashan. I knew her stay was going to be short lived as a sidekick to Ryan. I do not think that no one can go back to being a side kick after having and running their own show. Ramona deserves the mid-day show. She put her time into the station. Rashan wasn’t there long enough to get that spot. Now to Elle, I don’t think Elle and Ryan are going to work either. She’s seen more and has done more. Being back with Ryan won’t work for her because it will only be a job and not in her heart to be his side kick. I prefer Elle and Frank. When Wanda is out, Elle and Frank are good together. Elle can hold a good conversation with Frank when he’s talking about issues. Wanda is so damn Getto and her opinions are just down right stupid. Line up: Frank and Elle in the mornings, Ramona (she’s good), Ryan and another co-host (I think he should let the audience vote for his new side kick like he did with Rashan and CJ on HOT).

What happen to OSEI? I can remember when Portia Foxx came back she took that spot back from OSEL. After Portia Foxx left, Ell step into the spot, again OSEI came back. The only person that have been able to fit in that spot…Portia Foxx!! When Frank is gone on vacation and Ryan sit in. it is a mess. You don’t need two comedians early in morning(Ryan and Wanda). Frank can control some of the madness that goes on in the morning. I beleive he is more of the adult on the show.

I have been around Rashan Ali and her attitude is awful. She puts on this act on-air like she is so sweet and righteous but once the mic is off she is cursing like a sailor. It really is like she has split personalities. She is nice but she is extremely ghetto. Her and Ryan didnt fit during the afternoon. The only thing she did was back up whatever Ryan said by adding the ocassional “um hum” or “yes”. The few times that I listened her voice turned me off and I had to change the station. Atlanta traffic is horrible around 5 and her voice is not one that I wanted to listen to.
Elle Duncan is a groupie and chasing all the athletes in atlanta around. It is hard for me to listen to her bashing people when she is no better.I really think Elle will be the next person out the door. I dont wish it on her but I think she has reached her peak at V103. There is nothing left for her to do.

It’s interesting that they would put Ramona on Mid-Days. She is as boring as two left shoes…when she come’s on I turn it off. I would rather sit and listen to Carlol Blackmon (who is just as dead) than Ramona. Yes, I agree that Wanda is not as serious as she should be and can’t make out really what she does! Well Ima mess all yall up! My thought on all this is that it’s probably just another April Fools joke. How, all of a sudden, she decides to resign to further her acting career that she really hasn’t established yet! And with this economy, I don’t believe she quit because she couldn’t get the spot that Ramona has (which is the same spot that Elle had before her). With the goodbye speech that Rashan made, it didn’t sound real to me. Her and Ryan sounded orchestrated. Maybe I’ve been listening to Ryan too long. He is known for being a prankster. At the end of the day, I wouldn’t be surprised if the joke is really on us. HA! Just saying!
