Piers Morgan slams Delta, misses ‘America’s Got Talent’ auditions

Piers Morgan. SOURCE: NBC

Piers Morgan. SOURCE: NBC

Piers Morgan, host of his own show on CNN and “America’s Got Talent’ judge, tried to get to Minneapolis from New York via Delta Air Lines yesterday. But he got turned around and complained about it incessantly on Twitter (kind of like former Fan sports talk update guy/producer Chadd Scott last week.)

His flight was on its way to Minneapolis when it turned around back to New York.

In the end, he missed “America’s Got Talent” auditions yesterday.

He was peeved and gave it his all to his 470,000-plus followers.

Here’s the entire sequence from yesterday. Enjoy!

My plane was 50 mins away from landing in Minneapolis for AGT auditions today, when it turned round and is now heading BACK to NY.

Can someone explain to me, perhaps from Delta, what the **** is going on – as none of your crew seem to have the foggiest?

I will now be landing back in New York an hour before I’m supposed to start judging AGT auditions in Minneapolis. Thanks Delta.

Someone told me DELTA stands for ‘Don”t Ever Leave The Airport.’ Not correct. They leave, then come back again. #utterfarce

Pilot: ‘Good news is we’ll be on the ground in about 25 mins.’ Yes, but it’s the wrong ground, isn’t it my friend? The WRONG BLOODY GROUND.

Still on tarmac. Not moving. Ominous.

Flight attendant just smiled, then whispered to me: ‘Not looking good.’ #mixedmessageWe are ‘de-planing’ – everyone off. What an absolute bloody joke. Be ashamed Delta. This is shocking even by your standards.

And you can all relax at Delta now because the gates of Hades will freezeth over before I darken your pitifully incomptent doors again.

And you can all relax at Delta now because the gates of Hades will freezeth over before I darken your pitifully incomptent doors again.

So sorry to AGT audience for not being there today. Never missed a show in six years. Will be there tomorrow if I have to yomp there.

Admit it, even if you hate my guts, you’re pulling for me now in Operation Get Morgan To Minneapolis – right?

This is at about 9 p.m. last night:

Engines on. De-icing finished. I see a flicker of light at the end of this long dark tunnel….

Taking off! Minneapolis, here I come…. #notgoodnewsfordodgycontestants

At midnight today

Touchdown. I’m in Minneapolis. Thank you Tim Mapes – the man who single-handedly, and against all odds, restored my faith in Delta.

To deploy, and slightly amendm, the vernacular of @charliesheen – it’s been a day of quite spectacular ‘whining, duh’ Apologies.

Morgan will be in Atlanta April 12 to 14 for “America’s Got Talent” auditions at Fox Theatre. Will he use Delta then?

True, this is no fault of Delta. Air Traffic Control rules the air. He needs to lay off Delta.

Hometown airline is not keeping to many folks happy these days. Although, if they turned around and didn’t tell anyone why, I’m guessing it had to be something fairly serious that would have possibly would have created a panic with the passengers. Just a theory.

Maybe not Delta’s fault this time. I can remembe when Delta was a GREAT airline. A long way from greatness now, more’s the pity.

The weather in Minneapolis yesterday was really bad, lots of flights cancelled. Not much Delta can do about the weather.

delta doesn’t care about anything other than the bottom line. Hopefully, Southwest can come in and make them care with competitive fares

Well, Piers. If you are so d*mned important, charter your own plane next time. Or get your agent to negotiate for you. It’s not like you were on your way there to perform a life-saving operation. Go back across the pond you snob.

Sorry Piers, you are not more important than the safety of an airliner full of passengers. You may be deluded by your self importance and that Americas Got Talent is relevant in any manner but the air traffic control system determines whether a plane takes off and lands. Not your silly TV game show. Get a hold of yourself and stop whining like a Poncey hairdresser.

So would he have preferred that Delta over-rule (Federal) Air-Traffic Control and land in unsafe conditions? Glad I’ve never watched this whiny red-coat.

Minor compared to my (and about 130 other folks’) experience with Delta re flight from Vegas to Atlanta. Boarded and de-planed (because of various malfunctions with the planes) twice over a 5-hour period; finally delayed 12 hours+ before departing Vegas. But everyone had to rebook different flights because after boarding (and UNboarding) two different planes, Delta just canceled the whole shebang. For myself, it meant a flight to Miami, another two-hour layover, before finally being on my way home. Vegas to Atlanta — ABOUT 18 HOURS TOTAL! Not to mention the Delta ticket agents were incredibly rude and snippy and INCOMPETENT; not to mention that Delta very generously (NOT) offered a $100 voucher for future travel to make up for the fiasco. I’LL NEVER FLY DELTA AGAIN! THE DELTA PLANES ARE FALLING APART. THE DELTA TICKET AGENTS HAVE CORNERED THE MARKET ON RUDE. Delta’s so accustomed to being the “queen” of Atlanta, that they don’t have a clue about how to make an effort at customer service. THANK GOD FOR AIR TRAN!

Of course, Piers could have planned ahead of time and took an earlier flight in case their was a delay. Admittedly Delta screwed up, however, lets see Piers take a little responsiblity here and admit that he screwed up as well by cutting his flight so close to the audiion.

What if there was a traffic jam from the airport to the audition? Who would he have blamed then? He’s just as culpable here as Delata.

Ring, ring. Who’s calling? Oh, just personal responsibility. Why don’t you answer the phone Piers and accept some.

Well, i can sympathize because i have to fly Delta a lot for work and basically, i think they s**k, but i have no choice (until SW takes over Air Tran) and could write a book on all the time i’ve wasted and been inconvenienced by flying Delta. That said, i would think that Pierce, being such a famous and wealthy superstar would fly in his own private jet!!!

Spoiled wannabe celebs…. who gives a flying what he has to say. Rude Delta employees…. probably former NorthWest employees at least that is what I have experienced. All and all I think the airline employees should be commended for not backhanding the majority of thier passengers who think it is all about them. Are all Delta employees great, no – no airline can say that but to blame your bad day and failure to plan ahead on an airline dependent on weather, and air traffic control. Fly in a day ahead Pierce, like the rest of us do!

@ SouthGaDawg, how do you get “Admittedly Delta screwed up”???? Delta doesn’t make the decisions to be re-routed. The rest of your post, I’ll agree with, but how would you blame that on Delta?? If the pilots turned around they were instructed to do so but the Federal Aviation Administration. Key word there guy…..FEDERAL!!!

@Vegas Dreamer, after a flight takes a delay, the crew will start to time out. I’ve worked in Vegas and it’s not easy having to rework a full flight, make sure the crew has enough time to make the return trip, move bags over, make sure people won’t misconnect, and all the while you have 250 angry people on your hands. It’s not an easy job, if you think you can do better, by all means I’d love to see you try. Mechanical delays happen on EVERY airline, Delta is not alone. Granted the equipment is older, especially what was inherited from Northwest. You also have to understand that agents in Vegas are not only Delta, but now they are NW, which had a different work ethic and are ex-union. It’s not an easy task to work under pressure and do everything you can to make sure people get to where they are needing to go and try to do it with a smile. It is stressful and and a thankless job. BUT, the ground crew is just as responsible for the safety of the passengers as the pilots and FA’s are. So, when you are involved in a delay, have a little more understanding and sit back and just chalk it up to, things happen. The agents behind the counter want you home safe, just as badly as you want to be as well. Read the terms of the Contract of Carriage with every airline, including AirTran and Southwest, they all have the same wording. They don’t guarantee that you will get to your destination at any specific time, that you will have a specific seat on a specific aircraft, the only obligation that they owe to you is that you arrive at your final destination. You essentially rent space on a route, nothing beyond that is specific.

Delta is a horrible airline but I fly them every week, sometimes multiple times a week. Why? Because I am reasonably sure they are going to keep the plane in the air and get me to my destination alive. The consistent attitude I get from Delta employees is, “You are a passenger so you are an idiot. It’s not my problem. I don’t care. You have no idea how overworked and underappreciated I am.” Delta will get you there alive, but you will pay through the nose for the priviledge and be treated like crap every step of the way.

My guess is that he tried to the pull the “Don’t You Know Who I Am” card and the agent didn’t know who he was. Piers who?

I fly a handful of times a year and it’s always on Delta because for the same price as ticket on AirTran, I get better amenities. Sure having XM onboard is nice, but having a number of TV channels as well as movies trumps that and then some.

Congratulations those of you on here defending delta. It is by far the worst airline. They’re clueless, worthless, they treat you like crap, and they won’t tell you anything. Good article, Rodney. You know, the problem with the media is that the sponsors are in control of the content. So any negative publicity of them, such as Chad Scott’s comments about Delta, gets struck down. Its nice to hear the truth sometimes, that’s all.

Ex Deltoid, you are EXACTLY right! I’ve noticed a significant downturn in customer service since the NW crews have started integrating with Delta’s. I think Delta had done a lot to make up for the dark days in the 90’s, and flight attendants in particular were generally pleasant & professional. On a recent flight I had the misfortune to cross pathes with what only can be described as a ’surly’ flight attendant. I won’t go into the details here, but the first thing I thought of was it must be one of those spoiled union types pi$$ed off that the union vote didn’t go their way. Hopefully, she’ll soon find employment elsewhere.

Sorry all you Delta bashers, but no airline is perfect. I travel alot and use a variety of airlines, including AirTran, United, Southwest, and Delta. I have had lost baggage, mechanical issues, delayed flights, poor customer service, and general annoyances on all of them. I have have great customer service, great experiences, and general positive experience on all of them.

Some of you think that you never make a mistake and that your s&%t doesn’t stink. But if you judge some of you by the your spelling and general lack of grammar, it is obvious that you are relatively clueless.

March 24th, 2011

Delta employees get up everyday and give their all to a company they care the world about. A company that from the top down stresses every single minute of every single day that next to safety, there is nothing more important than our customers. Even with rising oil prices and declining revenues, Delta continues to invest dollars to enhance the customer experience – be it better online services or better onboard services. Apologies to all who feel they did not receive the best possible service from Delta but it is not because the majority of us aren’t trying our best. Sometimes things out of our control get in the way of meeting expectations. We are one company and we have always and always will value each and every one of our customers. Bring on the competition – it’s just going to make us stronger.
