Ramona DeBreaux officially named mid-day jock at V-103
Loading ...Ramona DeBreaux has been doing mid-days for V-103 continuously for weeks so this announcement should come as no surprise: she is now the official mid-day jock, replacing Elle Duncan.
The spot has been open since last summer when Duncan was moved to the Frank & Wanda morning show. V-103 tried out a few different people, including former mid-day host Osei the Dark Secret and even Al B Sure, the R&B singer. But DeBreaux, who had been doing traffic for Frank & Wanda since 2008, kept rising to the top of the list. She had already been the mid-day host at Hot 107.9 for several years before being let go in 2007.
“Ramona’s a veteran,” said V-103 Program Director Reggie Rouse. “She does great community appearances. She knows the market. She’s a great-sounding jock.”
In recent weeks, with DeBreaux exclusively handling mid-day duties, this announcement was nothing more than a formality.

I agree with Shack… Ryan deserves the morning slot. When he sits in, there is a completely different (positive) vibe! Ryan is down to earth, has close ties to the community, and has an excellent rapport with listeners. He is never rude or condescending… V-103… I hope you’re reading this. The “people” want Ryan in the morning… It is the “People’s Station” right?

I used to listen to V-103 in the morning when it was Robyn and Mike…I promptly stopped when Frank Ski started…I LOVE Ryan in the morning and listened everyday when he was on HOT…Please put Ryan in the morning…I also have started listening again to the radio during the day to Romona! Good choice!

Great Move! Congrats Ramona. I agree with most of the comments above… Elle does get annoying, but somehow her with Ryan works! I really liked listening to them and that Friday song … PRICELESS! I like Rashaun:)….. but with two GOOF balls together it made the afternoon at work go a little faster!

Oh yeah… I stopped listening to the morning show. Franks long drawn out pauses drove me nuts! I would always be say “Please say what you have to say”… I have to go to work! So Frustrating!!! “The RYAN KING” should host the morning show!

V-103 is the No. 1 station in town so it pays the highest salaries. It can actually afford to pay Ryan morning-level salaries. Most radio stations pay big bucks for the mornings (say, Q100 or Star 94) but the pay drops off significantly for mid-days or afternoons. There is no ‘average” salary in town. Smaller stations may pay morning hosts $50 to $80K while larger ones will pay $300K plus. Mid-day hosts may get $40K to $80K. Afternoon hosts will get paid a bit more (and if, say, they’re also the program director like at Project 9-6-1, significantly more). Oddly, mid-days tend to be populated by women while afternoons by guys.

WTG Ramonia, finally they have done a good thang by you. I do not know if Ryan wants mornings, but that would be a GREAT Move if he would accept. RYAN n Wanda in the morning. I must agree, why is it that we aqre haters for voicing our opinions. Atlanta do not stand by the RIGHT people nor their teams. ELLE is so ANNOYING that I completely stopped listening to the show. She needs to go have a baby or something, she always trying to fuss at GROWN FOLK when she still so wet behind the ear. She is not as ahot as some claim she is. Why and how she made it on this show is beyond me. I can say that Frank Ski is a rude man and has always been. He and Elle should get their own show and see how the ratings will be. They act as though they can say it and it is the GOSSIP and we suppose to ride or die with them. Again as it goes for ELLE, this is what I feel, ‘EL NAW SHE DON’T KNOW SHYT”. Congrats and best wishes to Ramona! She has a great voice and attiude for radio. I think Ryan Cameron will be the obvious #1 contender to replace Frank Ski one day. I’m not going to hate on Frank. While he is arrogant on the radio at times, and comes across as a father figure in his language, he does a lot for the community and tries to maintain interest and harmony on the morning show. It was hard for me to warm up to his personality–he is nerdish, but overall he has not done a bad job. We all should wish him well when his time is up. That being said, Ryan Cameron is more of what the people of Atlanta need going forward. I say this because he is naturally engaging, has a great sense of humor, and has the right perspective when it comes to our community. He grew up on Bankhead/Center Hill area as I did, and he knows how to bring the culture of not only his old neighborhood to the people, but the culture of the entire city to a city of ATLiens and many transplants. The famous and not so famous like bing around him. He’s consistently down to earth with everyone. Basically, he’s a natural for the morning show, and I beleive will make V-103 an even bigger station for a long time to come. On another note, I do agree that Elle D. is annoying at times, overly opinionated, and somewhat of a bully in how she carries herself on the radio. It’s almost like she makes noise to be noticed. She looks out of place on the TV show. I think that’s just her being herself, and she has not really endeared herself to V-103 listners–sort of like Tara Thomas, but in a different way. As for Wanda, I like her. She is just fun to be around. At times I think she caves in too much to Frank’s perspective, but I feel deep down she is just a sweet and sensitive person. Most people with strong personalities at work are different away from work. Rashuan Ali is still interesting to me. It’s like she is still trying to break out into a big radio star. She’s cool, quick with her humor, and very inteligent. She makes me want to sit down and have conversations at many levels with her–I love to hear her perspectives because you know it’s from her heart. I think Atlanta finds her fun to be a fun and caring personality.

I personally don’t like Ryan in the morning spot. Ryan is extremely talented and engaging but him, Wanda, and Elle amount to way too much giggling and laughing. Not what I’m looking for, first thing in the morning. I’m more serious looking for engaging news and discussion. What happened in the world while I was a sleep? Frank is the best they have at doing this. He may come across as arrogant but of all V103’s DJ he can offer the most incite into serious issues. As stated before this may come across as a father figure. Now once my day is winding down Ryan and his funny antics are perfect in the afternoon. Personally I think that’s the perfect mix for the #1 urban radio station in Atlanta. Not 24/7 gossip, joking, and laughing. Stimulate some brain cell at some point in the day. Oh and congratulation Ramona.

Congrats to Ramona DeBreaux! God made a way and he has blessed you in due time for the spot! Now on to line-up, Frank, Wanda, and Elle are fine in the morning. As RTClean said, V-103 has to offer a variety of music and personality throughout the day so that people will feel they are living up to their brand-name “V(ariety) 103″. A well-rounded crew with a little humor in the morning, a relateable personality in the midday, personable yet informed personalities in the afternoon, a personality that knows the hip-hop and local music scene at night, and slow jams during the late nights. It sounds like a well-programmed station to me. Hence, why I keep my radio locked on 103.3 because it fits for me, young professional that likes current and old school hip-hop, R&B, and other urban music.
I believe if Ryan Cameron wanted morning then he could easily get them, but he has a young family that he wants to spend time with while he cans. However as Rodney Ho said, he makes “morning money” in the afternoon with a schedule that fits his other professional and person obligations.

Great that they hired from within sometimes companies feel that they have to hire from the outside and overlook the great talents that they have that working for them. She is a great talent and she deserves this. She is doing and will be doing a great job.
