Stevens joins Vikki Locke, who has been doing a solo show since the soft-rock station released her long-time on-air partner Steve McCoy early last year. The name of the new show: The B98.5 Morning Show with Vikki and Kelly.

Stevens will also take on the producer role, filling the spot left by Will Gara, who was released from his duties at the station last week. Gara was at the station for 17 years. (Jessica Forkel very actively collects material for the show as well.)

Stevens, who returned to Cox Radio Atlanta last year on a part-time basis after a two-year absence, had been doing weekend fill-in for B98.5 before recently joining 97.1/The River’s afternoon drive. He will continue in that role as well.

“It’s an awesome opportunity,” Stevens said. “The opportunity to work with someone like Vikki is incredible. I’m just so happy to be back. My circle has come full circle.”

B98.5’s morning ratings slipped after McCoy’s departure for a few months but recovered in the latter part of 2010.

Stevens, a motorcycle enthusiast, was teamed with Alpha Trivette from 1999 to 2008 on B98.5, which regularly lands in the top 10 in Atlanta radio in popularity. The station ranked seventh in January and had a cumulative weekly audience of 1.3 million listeners.

With the size of his head, how in the world did he find a motorcycle helmet that fits?

I always listened to Kelly and Alpha. I listened to Steve and Vicki for 2 days when they started and that was ENOUGH. Vicki and Steve seemed to have non-stop drivel about D-List celebrities… I just couldn’t take it. I wish they would get rid of Vicki while they are at it!

You can buy large helmets at Rosie O’Donnell’s House of Helmets. They cater to the Irish big puppet head crowd.

I’m really happy for Kelly Stevens. I miss the old Kelly & Alpha morning show.

Excuse my negativity but I was not a fan of Will Gara. I will not miss him.

Welcome back Kelly!!

I thought Vikki and Will kind of had a Will & Grace vibe going. I never listened to B98 before Steve and Vikki so I don’t know about Kelly. Is he gay too?

You call B98.5 soft rock? That is the silliest thing I heard. How in the *&%# can you define the music as soft rock when they play Tubthumping over and over again? No soft rock station would play that crazy song. This is the worst sounding station if you talk about the music selection. If it weren’t for Vicki and the personalities, B98.5 would be the epitome of horrendous noise. Wished there was another better soft rock station in Atlanta to listen to.

I wish Cox would stop playing a zero-sum game with personalities. For every goodwill point they earn for bringing back an old friend, they lose for firing the longtime producer for both. That seems like the wrong foot to put forward first for a “new” morning show. I hope they can find a few bucks to offer Alpha and Will for weekly appearances.

Not cool that they let Will go. Will stepped in to big shoes when nobody else would. Cox should reward him, not kick him aside for the BBD. Will, we miss you!!

Steve & Vicki were good way back in the day, used to listen to them but the same old schtick got really stale and since they fired Steve, Vicki is the same stale Vicki but with boring sidekicks. Hopefully this will help. A REAL change is probably what’s needed, not adding another old personality to an old personality. I’m sure they’re all really nice people off the air……just very boring “on air”. Maybe more music and less personality works best.

The Vickie and Will banter sounded “forced” and contrived. Vickie obviously needed a real radio sidekick in order to succeed so this move makes sense. Time will tell if they will have chemistry together, but honestly, I would rather just hear music.

The only time I ever laughed at B98 was at something Will said. The show this morning was missing something. I forget if Kelly was the funny guy back when he was with Alpha so I’ll reserve my judgement til next week.

I was a fan of Steve and Vicki for years. When they left STAR 94, I tried to listen to Cindy and Ray, but Ray’s opinion of himself finally made me sick of him. They are MUCH better suited for the afternoon drive. I hated when a caller would disagree with Ray and he wouldn’t even let them talk. I was VERY happy when Steve and Vikki came back to the air and disapponted when Steve was let go. I hope Vikki and Kelly work out. If someone were smart, they would hire the “Vikki and Cindy Show.” And the Morning Mess was just that….a mess.

Gara was brutal.
Not funny, not witty, not insightful.
I don’t think you can judge Vikki by Will.
I think she can succeed without McCoy but she needs help.
Kelly is a good broadcaster. They might work.
I don’t know if Cox will give them enough time.
Good luck guys.

This is how it should be: Kimmer on GST, Steve and Vicki on star 94 with Will as their producer, Kelly and Alpha on 98.5
Randy and Spiff doing Oldies not Greatest Hits, I am the authority and this is how it should be!

@Kev Jessica is an off-air producer who helps dig up news and audio for Vikki (and soon, Kelly). She also takes and edits down calls for on-air consumption, among other duties. Presumably, she will work with Kelly on production.

The next person to get the boot will be Vikki. I’m tired of the revolving DJ door. Will was decent and sometimes funny! He put in many years at B98.5 and I hope he was compensated well. Does anyone see Alpha making his way back soon?

I feel that local radio is very out of touch with the audience.

– I’m also finding B-98.5 to be very boring. I take it that B-98 must really love playing the same Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry songs over and over again… I feel that the Big ’80s Weekends has over-stayed its welcome.

Steve and Vikki had great morning radio shows on Star-94 (1990-2007) and B-98.5 (2008-2010)… I loved their so, because it was so good. B-98 made the worst mistake of canning Steve McCoy. The morning show with Vikki Locke simply isn’t the same without Steve… and I wish that B-98 would bring Steve back… and maybe bring back Tom Sullivan while they’re at it too.

– Clear Channel made the worst mistake of dumping Peach-Lite FM from the 94.9 dial position, for country music station The Bull. Wish Clear Channel would bring Peach-Lite FM back to 94.9.

– Bert Weiss has a good morning show on Q-100. Frank and Wanda have a good morning show on V-103. Randy and Spiff are a great morning radio team too. Kelly and Alpha seemed like a good morning team… I don’t see myself as a huge fan of theirs. The Regular Guys also have a good morning show as well.

I didn’t like Will at first because I found him annoying — I listened to the morning show recently and didn’t find him to be that bad. It’s possible the station let him go because of his sexual preference, which was apparent and played up when he started with Steve & Vicki.

Kelly… are you for real. He has a bad radio voice…BORING. I am still ticked that they let Steve go. I was just getting use to Will and Jessica and now they are gone. This station is going in the dumps. I think I will change the channel. Yep… I will change the channel. I cannot listen to Kelly’s voice as it sounds like fingers on a chalkboard. I didn’t listen to the K&A show for a reason… and now I have a reason to not listen to the V&K show.
