Rihanna’s ‘What’s My Name?’ has reached eight weeks on top of Atlanta radio

I’m tired of saying this, but for the eighth week in a row, Rihanna’s “What’s My Name?” is the most played song on Atlanta radio.

The good news for folks tired of that song: it’s finally losing steam, down 49 spins week over week. Hot pulled back a bit (52 spins) while V-103 (47) and Wild (95)  stubbornly kept it at the top of their rotations the past week. Q100 (550 has kept it in mid-heavy rotation for a second week. Majic played it twice, too. So it’s at 249 spins, 14 spins ahead of Katy Perry’s “Firework.”

Perry is at top rotation on three stations:  Star (47), Wild (94) and Q100 (93). Third place, jumping from 10th a week ago, is Britney Spears, who is also at the top on Wild (95) and Q100 (95) but getting only 12 spins from Star 94.

I anticipate the new Lady Gaga song “Born This Way” that sounds suspiciously like Madonna’s “Express Yourself” will be up there pretty soon. It got more than 100 spins on three stations (Star,  Wild, Q) since last Friday.

It was a relatively robust week for adds on many radio stations:

V-103: Jamie Foxx’s “Best Night of My Life,” Kem “Share My Life”

Hot 107.9:  Kirko Bangz’s “What Yo Name Iz” Nicki Minaj “Did It On’em” (Big drops: Fabulous‘ “You Be Killin’ Em” and Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow”)

Wild 105.7: Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (73 spins since last Friday’s debut!), Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor” (added just yesterday, Feb. 15) Big drop: Rick Ross’s “Aston Martin,” from 49 spins to just 3.

Star 94: Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” Adele’s  “Rolling in the Deep”

Q100: Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” Black Eyed Peas “Just Can’t Get Enough,” Jennifer Lopez “On the Floor”

94.9/The Bull: LeAnn Rimes “Crazy Women,” Josh Thompson “Won’t Be Lonely Long” Keith Urban “Without You” Randy Montana “1,000 Faces”

Kicks 101.5: Steel Magnolia “Last Night Again” Tim McGraw & Gwyneth Paltrow “Me and Tennesse” Kenny Chesney “Live a Little” Justin Moore “If  Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”

Dave FM: Jack Johnson “From the Clouds” David Gray “Only The Wine”

Project 9-6-1: 3 Doors Down “When You’re Young” Art of Dying “Die Trying”

Fish 104.7: No adds

I dunno if anyone knows the answer to this or not, but am I the only one who has most trouble with Hot 107.9? Does that station just have a weak signal or should I switch to 102.9? I live in Smyrna and am amazed at how much static I get from an atlanta based station, I expect it from the rome 107.1 station, but from an atlanta station?

There’s nothing wrong with cranking out pop music superstars, but there it is a disservice to culture when that’s the only type of artist that exists.

Esperanza Spalding’s win serves as a reminder to listeners everywhere that good music isn’t just determined by what’s played on your local top 40 station.

Sad time in music when a no singing bird is lifted while real deep singers of all genres are looked over.So glad that I exercise my free will to listen to good music.music like Anthony Davis/Algebra.She is a disgrace to real music.

Consider yourself lucky, Kevin. Terrestrial radio is horrible, as these “ratings” show.

My view is…. Anthony DAVID/Algebra is on constant repeat on my IPOD. very hot song. If you like that check out the song from Dira feat. Omar.

I can’t believe this song is number one again. It is a horrible song, and it repeats the same line over and over. Is Atlanta that full of morons?

Hopefully Esperanza Spalding’s win will encourage execs to take risks and promote artists who have talent, not just star power. Bring something interesting to the cultural conversation — not just a Ke$ha to piggyback off of Lady Gaga’s album sales.

If a Lsdy Gaga song plays in the forest and nobody hears it, does it still suck?
