11 Alive meteorologist Paul Ossmann: what’s his future?

WXIA-TV

WXIA-TV

The forecast for meteorologist Paul Ossmann’s future at 11 Alive WXIA-TV is a bit cloudy. A source of mine yesterday told me his contract has not been renewed though he will remain at the NBC affiliate through late spring.

Ossmann has been with the station since 1998 and currently does weather for the evening news on 11 Alive and sister station WATL-TV.

Prior to his time at 11 Alive, he spent more than  10 years at WAGA-TV (now Fox 5), where he was the original host of “Good Day Atlanta.”

WXIA-TV general manager John Deushane declined to comment, citing policy about not discussing personnel  contracts.  That isn’t an outright denial so who knows?

Ossmann, who is married with two teenage kids, also declined to comment.

The most interesting item on his bio beyond his bonafides as a meteorologist:

In his spare time, Paul competes in shot put in Masters Track and Field events across the country. .He is an accomplished shot-putter, having finished in the top three nationally for the past three years. During the 2008 Indoor track and field season, Paul had the second best throw in the world! In 2009 Paul won gold in the USA Masters Indoor and Outdoor National Championships! One of only a few select masters athletes to earn two golds in the same year.

If it’s true, then good luck to Paul in the next phase of his life. Dash Rip Rock, there is nothing in Chesley’s presentation that is close to ebonics…….Red Neck!!

The ones whose contracts should not be renewed are Chris Holcombe and Chesley McNeil. By all means keep Paul Ossman

No loss. It’s not like that man people watch that dysfunctional channel for news or weather any way.

Why is Brenda Wood, along with the other formerly black anchors in Atlanta, bleaching her skin?

What Eric said. Whenever they talk about the wizometer, I think it must be an instrument a urologist uses.

Lose the Wizometer. It’s horrible. Hate it! Terrible! Stupid! Lose it! Fire the person who came up with, they don’t deserve to have a job.

The Wizometer is the coolest thing in ATL! If the wiz is below 5 I stay under the covers, 5 to 7 I put on long pants, 7 to 9 is shorts, 10 is flip flops and 11 I take a bath!

I also have had to stop watching 11Alive in the morning. Chesley is too silly and even worse on “his show” that precedes it. The Wizometer is stupid and embarrassing for Atlanta. Who thinks up these dumb ideas? I’m afraid though that the 11Alive execs won’t read these comments and make any changes. They will just do what they want to do.

Way past time for Paul A$$-man to leave. And, a whole raft of ee-leven-dead folks he can take with him, starting with pock-marked lisping re-tread Hullinger.

The Wiz has to go!

I know several people that know him “very” well (wink, wink) and if they want to keep their good family values on 11Alive, they need to be doing some interviews for new meteorologists!

My vote is for Cheryl Lemke as well. She did a great job reporting out in the field during the snowstorm. But, as somebody else wrote, management at 11 Alive won’t be reading these comments. So, instead of using a talented and experienced female like Cheryl Lemke, they will hire somebody from outside Atlanta who knows squat about the city. 11 Alive has a great talent in Cheryl Lemke. Let’s hope they decide to utilize her better.

I did not know Jill Becker was leaving or that Guy Sharpe died. Who is taking Jill’s place? I liked her because I noticed she wore the same clothes (not over and over) as before every once in awhile.

I know how to make watching the news very interesting here in Atlanta. Bring back the GREASEMAN. I would give my 2 ex-wifes to see what he would do and say about the WIZOMETER.

To me, Chris Holcomb seems like the only decent, very likeable, and competant meteorologist at 11Alive… and I could picture him moving to the 6, 7, 10, and 11PM news. I’m not so sure that Dagmar Midcap is considering returing to Atlanta TV anytime soon. I don’t particulary care for Chesley McNeal either.

News of Paul’s late Spring/early Summer departure comes right on the heels of 2 other major shake-ups at 11Alive. Jeff Hullinger co-anchoring the 10 and 11PM news, with Ted Hall staying on the 6PM news. Jill Becker recently announcing her retirement, slated for late August. As for who will likely be Jill’s successor… I’m guessing that 11 may be considering opting for the very chipper Valerie Hoff, unless 11 is considering thinking outside the box (I could picture 11 going with either WRCB-TV morning anchor Jed Mescon… or former MSNBCer Dan Kloeffler). Just my thoughts.
