Herman Cain, after three years on AM750 and now 95.5FM News/Talk WSB, aired his final show Tuesday night so he could pursue a possible presidential bid.
Program Director Pete Spriggs dubs it a “hiatus.”
“Depending how it goes and what he decides and how successful he is,” Spriggs said, ” it could be a very long-term hiatus from the air. He has the exploratory committee to explore the possibility of running for president. It’ s been impossible to do that as it needs to be done across the country and do his talk show.”
Beginning Thursday, Cain will be replaced in the 7 to 10 p.m. time slot by Erick Erickson, who joined WSB Radio last month and whose show had been airing from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Financial expert Dave Ramsey, who left 640/WGST-AM at the end of 2010 and joined WSB Radio, will cover 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. He had been airing from midnight to 3 a.m.
Cain, a conservative businessman who also subbed for Neal Boortz over the years, will talk with Erickson from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday night, according to Erickson on his website www.redstate.com.
Erickson has been contributing to CNN’s “John King, USA” for the past few months from 7 to 8 p.m. Erickson did not say how he will reconcile that responsibility but said he will remain with CNN, as well as run his website.
Because of Federal Communications Commission equal-time provisions, if Cain runs for office, it would complicate his ability to air a radio show because an opponent would have the right to request “equal time.”
Spriggs said that is not an issue yet since Cain has not officially declared he was running for office.

Who didn’t see this coming when Savage was dumped and Ramsey put on at midnight. Ramsey’s agreement probably hinged on the fact that eventually he would get pushed up after Cain started his bid for the White House.
Now at least I get to hear Dave at a more reasonable time.

I suppose if you can’t win a statewide race in Georgia, the natural thing to do is run for President. I’m a conservative, but Cain is insane if he thinks he can get the nomination much less win.

I am surprised that this didn’t happen months ago. I don’t know if this was a sack of ol’ Uncle Humon by WSB or not, but I do know that he had the most boring, predictable, ‘always the same topic’ show in the annals of talk radio. I am by no means a political conservative, but at least Ericson is not boring.
Of course, anyone with even half a brain knows that what ol’ Herm is really doing is not running for President, but rather making a move to get more publicity so that he can jack up his speaker fees and gt more speaking engagements. (’Herman, you sly dog you. Just like Sarah Palin, really’). All I can say is that if one is going to be the biggest Uncle Tom around, you might as well get paid for it. See ya Humon.

Why, when some black conservative makes the rounds, other blacks call him an “Uncle Tom”. Can you all not accept it when some of you stray from the dogmatic approach of the “black community”? Oh well, why bother asking. It’s just another form of black-on-black violence. I guess you all like to cannibalize each other. It is quite pathetic though….and self-defeating.

What do you mean his politics are sound, TommyGunn? Admittedly I only listened to him a few times, but it seems to me he just parrots the standard conservative bumper-sticker ideas: lower taxes (even if it adds to the deficit), cut government spending (but not the bloated defense industry), drill baby drill, etc.

As for Herman’s lack of political experience, that’s what he’s running on. What good has Washington experience done us in the last 2…10…20…years? You get the picture. Besides, he ran Godfather’s Pizza for a decade and a half.
As for his losing the 2004 Senate race, frankly that was a different time. GOP had captured the White House 4 years earlier, was looking at a wartime situation and a strong GOP upswing (which would be their last). Back then the old GOP guard ruled the roost, and those who associate themselves as Tea Partiers were not strongly united yet. In Post-9/11 days, there was still hope that the GOP would turn things around, but alas they went the opposite direction and were rightly shown the door in the next 2 elections. I think the state and the country are much more ready for a Herman Cain now…

To be honest…..Herman Cain stands ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE!!
One: Everything he states is a talking point….no original thought processes there!!
Two: He won’t garner support in the black community because he is another Clarence Thomas: cut the same programs that allowed HIM to succeed!
Three: Cain has forgotten where he came from; his version of self-reliance is to forget who helped him get to where he is!!
Four: Cain tends to marginalize anyone whose experiences runs counter to his; he is in denial (yes…even “up the river”) that others’ experiences differ from his…and neglects the fact that his progression occurred in a rather LIBERAL state, Minnesota (home base of Pillsbury).
When more issues come forth, I’ll relate them…..

Our current President is doing a better job than the “experienced” President before him. It really does not matter, the GOP does not have anyone who can win a national election over President Obama. Palin, “our allies in North Korea”, Gingrich, “serve my hospital-ridden wife divorce papers”, Rhomney, “I’m a Mormon so the GOP base will never support me”, Huckabee, “At least I can win the deep south”, everyone else does not even have regional appeal outside of their home state. People like Roekest absolutely love guys like Herman Cain, because he does the bidding of the ideology and people who relish his contributions to their propanganda campaign. Much like we prop up leaders around the world (like Mubarak), the modern day Conservative ilke props up the Herman Cains and Michael Steeles of the world and tells Black folk we should feel bad for not running up behind these non-threatening negroes. Step outta line and become a perceived threat though (Michael Steele) and see what it gets you. Do I say that minorities should trust the Democratic establisment? No, because ultimately they are complicit in perpetuating the proganda as well. They provide the fuel for the other sides’ fire. Ultimately, it works out the way it should. The oppressor stays so with power, money and influence and the oppressed remain oppressed through division, misinformation and dependency.

For a gentleman who has demonstrated a stunning level of ignorance on everything from the US judicial system to macroeconomics, Herman Cain is simply not suited for any elective office. His factless pontifications on WSB have demonstrated that he is ignorant about many of the core subjects on which a presidential candidate should be an expert. No, Good Grief, I shouldn’t have called you un-American. That was not meant as a personal insult. In truth, I find Americans in general guilty of viewing all issues through the lens of their political affiliation without allowing themselves an opportunity to consider the points of the other side. We have become a nation divided, lacking common ground. It means that when a Democrat is elected President, or the Democrats win a majority in the Congress, we are then inundated with cries of their “ineffectiveness” when in truth they are simply carrying out the principles of the people who elected them…and vice versa, of course.
Why, if talk radio is indeed “entertainment”, can’t WSB offer a program from a centrist or (God forbid) a liberal perspective? It’s always the same old same old…which could be said of ALL the local radio outlets. No wonder conservatives think they have to hate liberals. It’s all they hear, day in and day out.

@Whacks Eloquent: If you had heard his “Statistical State of the Union” show last week, you would understand why I feel that this man does not understand macroeconomics. He continually remarked about the level of unemployment “under Obama” while ignoring the fact that the sharp rise in unemployment started under the previous administration. Furthermore, if he was educated on macroeconomics, he would know that unemployment continues to rise temporarily even after an economy exits a recession (this has been the case for EVERY recession since the BLS started tracking figures several decades ago). I never said he was stupid or someone utterly incapable; I noted his lack of knowledge in rudimentary, fundamental tenets of macroeconomics. In either case, being able to successfully run a business and manage a $15 trillion economy are not the same. I am sure Mr. Cain is honorable and intelligent person, however, I do not feel that he has the practical knowledge needed to govern a nation of 310 million people. As soon as he began to claim that the “American court system is for American citizens only” (even after I phoned his show to correct him), I knew that he lacked the necessary understanding to be the leader of the free world. I wish him the best in the future, but I do not support his candidacy.

You Distort-
Thank you for the clarification. The person who called me a traitor yesterday would never have said that. I thank you for it.
And I agree that Americans view issues from their own political viewpoint. But they also view issues from their own religious POV, and socio-economic POV. It’s all part of being who you are. I’m one of those people who blieve that if you’re open to everything you’ll fall for anything, as cliche as that sounds. That said, I’ve changed my mind on many issues. I was raised in a fairly Democratic household that started to trend Republican. I started out voting a nearly-straight Republican ballot. Now, having been seasoned by college, a few years in the private sector, and my own research, I find myself pretty squarely in the Libertarian camp, although I differ from them on a number of issue. I’m not ashamed by the fact that I view political issues through the spectrum of small, limited government. That’s who I am.
Have a great day.

Hermain Cain is bringing common sense, business sense and will be a new voice, and if nothing else, will bring a positive approach to politics. Why do most think that professional politicians are the answer.. And i guarantee if he ever gets a chance to debate our current administration …woooo!!! you might just learn something. Heman Cain is a people’s President with ideas that only a Business man would think of. The Gov’t needs to be run like a buisness. Not like it is now. The current ayatollah is pro radical and is against American ingenuity. His parents were radicals, not of this country but from kenya. And the dems want to pass laws without regards to the law or to the constitution. Once again, we are living in the era of Jimmy C. Laughing stocks. And all the ayatollah wants to do is bow at the alter of the radicals. Do you not see that THIS is his form of reparations? course not-and that woman who claimed to not have to worry about having to pay for gas or her mortgage, yeah she ain’t got no job now so she don’t have to worry no more about those two things.

I for one will work for Cain. Its time we actually get a President who knows how the American System works. Who has business experience, who sets himself up with the best and will work for America. Yes he is black but he has never called himself black. He has worked and given and worked some more.
I (a white conservative) will be working to help save this country. I can tell you the blacks do not like Cain because he feels they should be standing on their own two feet and educating themselves to make their lifes better. You know, he believes what DR MARTIN LUTHER KING preached. Only problem is not to many people know that KING was a great Conserative who believed in rising up and taking care of yourself and being productive in society. The I HAVE A DREAM speach. Go read it and then go look at what Herman Cains vision is. It is America and he loves this country. IF we dont fina President who does love this country and the freedoms it offers,, we may not have a country left for our kids and grandkids.

I dont care what color a mans skin is, I care about how he lives and where his values are. I care about his experience and knowledge and if he lacks some knowledge, what he will do to gain it.
I see Cain as a very reliable person who is true to his word. He has said over and over what he believes and what has to be done to save this country.
This country elected Obama on lie after lie and with no experience, he hired tax evaders to make sure we pay our taxes, he has slammed general business and has no idea what it takes to create employment. He has set to regulate just about everything while giving his friends and cronies high paying jobs. Obama’s administration has 2% business experience.
Cain knows what this country needs and he knows how big this government is and where the waist is. He knows national security is a huge issue and he does not want China to own us. Well they do already, but its time to stop that. He knows that regulation takes jobs away from americans and puts them overseas in the hands of India or wherever you go when you call customer service to Metro PCS or Sprint or all the other companies who outsourse our jobs to lower countries to get rid of high wage Union takeovers.
Yes go Herman. Its time to educate these americans. Start speading the truth.

@MoreRightthanLeft: This thread of comments has absolutely nothing to do with Obama or political slogans; the question before us is: “What are the qualifications of Herman Cain to be President?”. Mr. Cain the one claiming to be an expert by railing on about a “Statistical State of the Union,” therefore it would serve him well to make sure that he’s actually spot-on with his analysis; he demonstrated that night (and many others) that he fails to grasp the fundamentals.
Of all the leading Republican contenders, I think Mitt Romney is the best perspective candidate to date. I probably would not vote for him (for various policy reasons), but he has the depth of experience that would rival just about any candidate from any political party. Ergo, if I *had* to choose a Republican for which to vote, Romney would be it. That said, I’m fairly confident the Tea Party movements (which currently has the Republican Party in a stranglehold) will likely not allow a formerly moderate ex-governor of Massachusetts who is a Mormon be the GOP nominee.

He finally lost it with me during 2008 when he fervently insisted, on a near-daily basis, that the US economy was SOUND, and that we were definately NOT in recession. This despite all the foreclosures, bank failures, layoffs, pitiful stockmarket, etc. He carried the GOP water instead of appealing to his own presumed common sense. I guess he’s chasing after the Palin/Bachmann/Alan West crowd. More power to him.

I’m with you. Some people just DO NOT get it. I make well over $100k/yr and have my hand out for NOTHING EXCEPT the compensation that I EARN. They can only speak to the proaganda that is perpetuated. The truth of the matter is, people who are not of the Black community that operates in the mindset of people like you and I cannot seem to wrap their minds around the idea that we possess a knowledge BASED UPON OUR EXPERIENCES that they just cannot relate to. So for us to be able to see through people like Herman Cain, Michael Steele and the like totally misses them. Because it escapes them, they can only resort to what’s comfortable – the proganda. They fail to understand that we see the big picture of our people’s condition and who is responsible for what. They however do not give us credit for having this understanding though because they have bought into once again, the propaganda. They just operate from the standpoint that we just became a certain way and ARE in a certain situation because we want to be..or that it’s just somehow our nature. They have not a clue. So with this they have no idea that there is an historical context that these guys are framed in. They have always been with us, serve a purpose, and fortunately have always been able to be sniffed out and exposed for what they really are.

taken from this great article regarding Blacks and Republicans.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/04/post_11.html
“…There was a vigorous two party system in the South in 1876, but by 1896 there were hardly any Republicans elected to any state or federal offices at all. Why? Republican whites left the South and Republican blacks joined the Democrat Party instead. Many black men, supported by strong black women who could not vote but who could speak, resisted as long as they could, but when medical care for their families and purchasing supplies at stores was even denied to them, they relented. Black women had a name for men who quit the Republican Party and became Democrats – this process was known as “Crossing the Jordan” – and that name was “Uncle Tom.”"
So technically, if this article is true then wouldn’t calling a black man “uncle Tom” be a compliment??

ALdC, how long does precious Obama continue to get a pass? It will always be “Bush’s fault” in some eyes. Notice that Herman Cain did not say it start under Obama, in fact he talks about it on his show. Bush did not help, but the underlying housing bubble began during Clinton years. Too many people getting houses they should not have. But how is he to convey all of that information into a simple speech? Point is, now is time for Obama to start getting some accountability for the state of the nation…

This is a pure publicity stunt and an effort to further promote Cain as the “African American Sean Hanity.” He is nothing but an ideologue. Case in point:
Last year on his show, “Mary” called. From the sound of her voice she was an elderly Caucasian woman. Long story short, she went on a long rant about President Obama being “un-American,” “a Muslim,” and a Muslim plant “sent to undermine our country.”
Instead of kindly correcting her — as John McCain famously did to a similarly misguided white woman during one of his campaign rallies during the presidential race — McCain just said “uh-huh, uh-huh, Mary, you’re right.”
I lost all respect for him after that. At least McCain, in the midst of a hotly contested race, had the character and manhood to step up and correct a potential voter. I’m positive that his actions that day cost him at least a couple hundred thousand votes. Cain, however, in his zeal to be “the national Black conservative voice,” couldn’t bring himself to be professional and do what he knew was the right thing.

Let’s get serious here. After Obama, there will probably never be another black man elected as president. Obama was an “experiment”. People expected him to wave a magic wand and make all of the problems of the last 8 years vanish overnight. It wasn’t to be. He was just a fresh face offering change and hope to a nation which was dangling at the end of a rope. Now, people realize that he is not Jesus Christ , but just a man doing the best that he can. Let’s face reality. This is still America and Herman would have to be able to walk on water while tossing corn cobs to flying pigs to win the nomination. Herman, old buddy, use your remaining years wisely and take up time with your grandkids. Take them to the movies, fishing, or on picnics. You will be wasting your time on a bid for the presidency.

Knowledge is power and Ignorance is Bliss…. you took time to critique my language skills but you didn’t comment on the issues of discussion. And this is a blog…not an English class. If precise correct grammer was a requirement then this blog would not exist.

Wait a minute, (laughter), now…, (more laughter), this guy thinks he has a chance. Operative word, thinks. I think I can play Major Leauge Baseball. I think I could be a neurosurgeon. But I couldn’t get wood on a fastball and my degree is in History. Operative word, think…until reality sets in. I know that’s what Herman Cain needs at this point, R-E-A-L-I-T-Y…

This is a terrible thing to have to say, but Herman will never win a national election. It is mostly because his lack of proper pronunciation and enunciation when he speaks makes him sound very ghetto. Yes, Herman is very smart, but he says fitty, unka and ax for fifty, uncle and ask.
I adore Herman, but....

Herman is awesome but:
1) Didn’t he get in trouble for not paying taxes once? Like, A LOT of taxes? Maybe I am confused – I hope I am. I was thinking Herman Cain was in trouble for something a while back….and I thought it was not paying taxes. Does anyone know?
2) I love him, but…..shouldn’t we have him doing a show that covers both slots, and have Dave Ramsey running for President? I would LOVE to have Ramsey or Clark Howard running and would vote for them on any ticket – party wouldn’t even matter.
He does??

i wonder if mr. erickson will be as nasty on his new radio show as he is on his blog. it’s one thing to put it in print, you are distanced from it. it’s another to vocalize ugly, nasty commentary. we’ll see.

First of all, Herman Cain makes a terrible pizza. For that reason alone, he should be disqualified from holding any public office. Secondly, don’t you have to be at least a little bit likeable to win a public office?

I am sooo glad he is gone. Wsb radio ratings should get a boost. How can he run for anything when he is mostly a divider not a uniter. He is making money for himself. I get tired of these so call conservative trying to capitalize. Call it what it is! Waste of time and money. Go help create more jobs if that is your role and not the government!

I wish him the best of luck because he truly believes that he wants to fix this country, but he can’t blame the “lamestream media” when his plans go awry. His own people are going to trip up, not black people, but these so-called conservatives who will get bored talking about the issues and begin to nitpick. Just like they did with Romney, because he was a Mormon.

As you hear or read Mr Cain’s biography, it’s important to understand he didn’t create Godfather Pizza – it was a division of Pillsbury needed a place of use Mr Cain’s talents. He had been supervising operations of Burger King in Philadelphia, and they put him in charge of turning around Godfather Pizza. Godfather Pizza was mostly a franchise operation, not a company operated chain. Pillsbury got out of the pizza business within 2 years because it wasn’t making enough money – and Herman Cain led a buyout group funded by CitiBank… After the spinoff, many of the franchisees left the chain.

It’s funny how most of you are so negative about Mr. Cain. This is fine but it’s the (hater) tone of a majority of you that’s caught my attention. It’s likely that those select people are the same Government hacks trying to get your hands into everybody’s pockets because you don’t have enough intestinal fortitude or self accountability to get up off your ***** to make a difference for yourselves, your families or this country. Instead, you would rather sit on your couch and tear anybody down the first chance you get because they have decided to step up to the plate. Many of you probably make a career out of it. So keep that followers mentality folks. Maybe one day, some of you might decide to break the mold and actually lead.
Whether he wins or loses is not the point (it doesn’t matter to me personally), the point is that he is attempting to make a difference unlike a majority of you commenting. That is what matters.
