TV Guide: Larry Hagman signs on to ‘Dallas’ remake on TNT

Larry Hagman, star of the original “Dallas,” told TV Guide that he is willing to join a TNT remake of the show.

“I haven’t signed any contract but I gave them my commitment verbally,” says 79-year-old Hagman to TV Guide. “I just told them I’d do it and my word’s good!”

TNT has given the green light to a pilot of a “Dallas” remake. The original CBS show, which aired from 1978 to 1991, remains one of the most beloved prime-time soap operas in television history.

TV Guide says the pilot script has Hagman’s oil tycoon character J.R. Ewing in a mental asylum.

The Atlanta-based network is best known for its dramas focused on crime such as “The Closer” and “Rizzoli & Isles.” It doesn’t have a “soapy” drama in its current line up.

Hagman visited Atlanta last September for an “I Dream of Jeannie” reunion at DragonCon. He also recently guest starred on ABC’s soap-driven “Desperate Housewives.”

I hope that his role entails him sitting behind a desk. He is very frail in person plus he’s caring for his wife who is suffering from Alzheimers.

However, judging by the clip from the other night’s Desperate Housewives, man’s still got bite and presence on-screen.

Yay! I can’t wait to see this washed up old drunk on TV again. He’s so damn old (except for that replacement liver of his) that when he opens his mouth dust comes out.

Favorite JR lines…

“Sue Ellen, you are a drunkard and an unfit mother”

“Bobby’s gettin’ weak, Daddy”

(Spoken about a mistress) “That woman cannot make a decent cup of coffee”

J.R. would make Victor Newman look like Victoria Newman.

They should leave the classics alone. “Dallas” had its prime and will forever be a classic television show. A remake runs the risk of ruining a good thing.

Love JR and can’t wait to see him on the remake..

@Reality TV Blows..You should just hope that you live to be as old as JR and still have lots of people love you..

@Crazyhorse ATL(2:01) Amen to that..I like Victor Newman also, but don’t think that he could hold a candle to JR..

Why doesn’t “J.R.” groom his eyebrows anymore?

Do the ladies like a man’s brows that way these days?

To Dynasty was the ish., according to TV Guide, there is going to be a prequel movie for Dynasty going back to when Blake and Alexis were dating and married. They are predicting a series of movies. Should prove to be interesting. I was/am a fan of both shows. Will our Dynasty/Dallas feud be alive in the 21st century?

Are there any ladies out there who like to run their fingers through a man’s bushy eyebrows?

How about any ladies who fantasize about running those painted fingernails through a man’s back hair?

The funny thing is that until I saw him on Desperate Housewives the other night, I thought he was dead. So I was not only was I surprised to see him, I was amazed that he still had that nasty “J.R. Ewing” bite. I am looking forward to seeing him in action again. I wonder if they’ll get Patrick Duffy to sign on as well.

J.R.’s best line of the whole series came after Sue Ellen caught him in bed with another woman. When confronted the next morning he answered…”Now darling, what are you gonna believe, your loving husband or your lyin’ eyes?” Best bad guy ever in soap opera history!

@J.R. for president, those are my favorite lines as well.

Didn’t JR kill himself in the final episode of DALLAS?

January 25th, 2011
6:21 pm

The final episode ended with you thinking that J.R. shot himself. However, nothing was seen–just the sound of a gunshot. I guess that J.R. shot the mirror. I would love to see the series return, especially if they could get as many of the original cast as possible. However, it is very hard to do better than any original.

J.R. was a classic character, one of the few recognized by just saying his initials. Bring him back and as many of the original cast members as possible!! It’s bound to be a hit.

My husband loves DALLAS! For his birthday a few years ago, I treated him to the Ewing Barbeque that have every few years at Southfork! We met the entire cast( and had some up close and personal time with Patrick Duffy)–such a nice bunch of people. My husband was like a kid in a candy store!

Bring Dallas back and show people today what a REAL TV program is like – interesting, fun and informative. If you must have sex and vulgur words you might be disappointed.
