Suchita Vadlamani has left ‘Good Day Atlanta’
Morning host Suchita Vadlamani, rumored to be leaving “Good Day Atlanta” earlier this month, has actually left the building for good on her own volition, her attorney Mark Trigg told me today.
He referred to her Facebook fan page, where she provided a brief statement:
It’s official! After a memorable 8 1/2 yrs at Good Day, it’s time for another big adventure! Join me as I take it to the next level!
Loading ...Vadlamani, through Trigg, declined to comment further. If she has plans for the near future, she is not saying.
No word yet from WAGA-TV who will replace her. Karen Graham would be the most obvious pick since she is already part of the morning team.
The station released this statement:
“Suchita Vadlamani has resigned from FOX 5 to pursue other personal interests and professional opportunities. We thank her for her contributions to the FOX 5 team over the past 8-1/2 years and wish her the very best in all her future endeavors.”
On Dec. 9, Ryan Cameron announced on V-103 that she had been fired, then retracted the statement. This fueled rumors of her impending departure. At the time, Trigg denied she was leaving though she had suspiciously cleaned up her desk at WAGA.
WAGA has recently gone through major management changes at the top. This is the first sign of more changes to come, for sure. In recent weeks, the “Good Day Atlanta” show has opted for more hard news, fewer softer features.

Totally not unexpected here. Channel 5 ran a cartoonish type ad the other day about a week ago and featured all of the people there except for her. I figured it out from that she was either gone or going. Very obvious from the ad.

I watched her when the big names would be on and she would go out of her way to shake their hand. When the not so familiar people on, your ordinary guy type, she always seemed to have a piece of paper or something in her hand, thus making it not handy for her to have to touch just the run of the mill type person. I called this to the attention of my husband because I noticed it time after time.

Gawd, the NEWS period, in this town sux!! Especially the AM bunch. Channel 2 tries to be hard hitting with “live” reports from empty fields or them knocking at someone’s door, “who ain’t answering!!!). Channel 11, I actually like Chesley, but the rest of em’, can kick rocks, but the Wiz-O-meter….really?? Channel 46, what the ‘eff are you doing?? I mean do we have to laugh at anything and everything the other says?? I MEAN REALLY?? I know, let’s be light and happy, but you forgot something…Oh, THE NEWS!!! (If YOU watch this….Kill Yoself!!) Channel 5 is actually a news program that’s balanced. O.K. we do get the bad slang and the over the top CIA or Crime Dawg reporter who’s had a few different segment attempts (kinda like Drew Carey before he got the Who’s Line and Drew Carey Show, they just pushing him down your throat….), but I’d say pretty steady. Suchita was actually a good figure to deliver the news and could transition to different segments fairly easily. Good exchanges between her and Mark Hayes. But I could tell recently that she was not happy, there. Our loss. I wish her the best. Sorry, Mark, but you should move on too.

I’m a Jovita Moore/Carol Sbarge/Erica Coleman/WSB man myself, but I always thought she bore a striking resemblance to a slightly younger Amanda Davis . . . if she’s Indian that might explain the reluctance to shake everyone’s hands . . . the caste system and all . . . just speculating . . . With all her experience and the fact that she’s definitely eye-candy, she’ll land on her feet somewhere . . . She did not mind shaking hands- with the big name people, would fall all over herself to do so. No big name, no handshake from her, had nothing to do with her background. My impression from what I always saw was she thought she was better than most- unless you had a name like Beyonce or the like.

And those who do limit may be stupid enough to limit oneself to marrying within the caste, but shaking other people’s hands has nothing to do with any kind of caste bias.

I have been a faithful channel 5 viewer mornings and at dinner time. I love the interaction of all the on air talents. I knew something was up – there seemed to be a lot of odd absences lately – mostly left unexplained. I enjoy Mark in the morning, and will miss Suchita. No matter how late I’m running I have to check for weather and traffic, and enjoy the running commentary among the entire group. To tell you the truth – I hate the constant number competition and the shake ups that come at both radio stations and TV shows.

The first Indian lady is now @Fox in DC for the morning show. She is still dropping 100% caffeine drops in her eyes before every show. Someone told her that eyelash batting was cute, maybe in a club, not at 6 in the morning.
Sorry to see Suchita gone, but this is no different than every day. At least one day a week one of the four was missing. Could never depend on them to be at work daily.
Carol Sparge and Fred are OK, just that WSB could let them come in, read the news, record, ane let that video loop every 12 minutes. No need to pay a big salary for that.

The problem is the shows format, not Suchita. I realize it is supposed to be an entertainment show but I tuned in a couple of times when there were major news events occuring in the city that the show competely ignored. Suchita and Mark continued with their warm and fuzzy lightweight entertainment segments.

I’m not surprised. Afterb watching her over the years it was clear “something” was wrong lately. I thought the week she wore her hair down was her sayonara..I could see it in her professional, but reserved demeanor. She is beautiful, more than competent at delivering the news, and she was also kind of “down to earth” goofy (which I liked!). It takes a lot to make Mark “INeedADermatoligist” Hayes look good…I’m just sayin’.
I wondered how long it would be before someone scooped her up…I picture her doing a “foodie” or fashion type show because that’s two of her passions. She’s golden though..easy on the eyes, marketable. She will be more sucessful, and it will be interesting to see where she ends up. Now she can have a normal life, and not have to get up at 2 or 3 in the morning. I can’t say I have any other reason to watch Fox5 in the morning anymore. Joanne Feldman?? Nahhhh she’s really mousey and she kinda looks like a chihuahua.

I like the Fox Morning show as that it is about the only truely good show on in the mornings for local stuff. CBS has nothing good and I’m suprised WSB hasn’t tried to do it’s own show- I know they have to air GMA, but local would be good. I’ll miss Suchita… as a viewer, I don’t know what was going on internally. I just hope the show won’t suffer and go down the tubes. I wouldn’t mind Joanne Feldman at all. I would just like someone to bring some energy…

Bumped into her while out shopping at the annual “Shecky’s Girls Night out” event at the Biltmore and my friend said hello .. along the lines of “oh my gosh, are you Suchita from Fox 5? you are so pretty” – Response from Suchita “Yeah..Yeah… it’s me .. now go away so I can shop”! *Direct Quote* She then pulled out a greyish top and stared speaking to herself “ooh this is cute” – VERY DISMISSIVE! So.. I’m I fan…nope! not really! and I am not the type to bash anyone without hard facts -but I had to share this. We were in no way “invading her space” actually these events are very crowded and my friend was more thrilled than the rest of us were to see a TV personality..- so BUH-BUY YOU ICE QUEEN! I prefer the genuine rapport between Mark and Jeff! They are hysterical together!

I thought she was attractive but jealous? I saw nothing to be jealous of. I saw her with the rich and famous and with the not so famous and there was definitely a difference made in how they were approached by her. I even sent an email to Channel 5 one time mentioning how obvious this was. As an interviewer she (or anyone else for that matter) should not make a difference in their guests. I loved it the time she got overly friendly (or thought she would) with the Duchess of York when asked if she could call her “Fergie” and was promptly told to call her the Duchess.

I have always been a 5 viewer even before Fox.
What has happened to that station over the years I never understood what happened to Jeff Hullinger over there, glad he is back, maybe they could rehire him and Gurvir together . I liked Suchita but I’ll bet Mark will be shown the door too. Jeff Hill is boring and so is Joann Feldman. Lots of change for us Fox 5 watchers. I don’t know what to think.

While I’ll miss her on this particular show, I am definitely looking forward to seeing her stretch “to the next level”. A unique class act who was lots of fun to hear/watch. The NBC 11 Alive morning show is unbearable. Chesley is just a little too much to take that early in the morning. Jill Becker seems like a lovely person but she puts me right back to sleep. Is there any news on that show anymore? The last time I watched the show it was all about giving people doughnuts and field testing cheap, useless gadgets made in China.

I am not a hater. I think that Suchita is beautiful but I always wondered why she wore such drab clothing. Every now and then she would wear something colorful. Most of the time it looked like she bought her clothes off of the clearance rack at Target.

I’ve watched Good Day Atlanta for more than a dozen years, and I really liked Suchita. She’s a rare beauty, very intelligent (U of Chicago grad), very sophisticated and hip. I watched her evolve from being very prim, proper and demure when she first came on to being cool and sexy. It always killed me what a big thing she seemed to have for Jeff Hill. I’m going to miss her.
The show seemed to keep expanding – it now seems to be on from 4:30 to 10:00, so I wonder if she got burned out?

Here’s the breakdown, folks:
Channel 5 — Too fluffy, too many quirky reporters, too many head cases, bad management, irritating morning show (Suchita seemed cold and out of touch with regular people, and Mark is just plain annoying). The only redeeming parts of their news team are Russ Spencer, Joanne Feldman and Ken Cook.
Channel 11 — Trying TOO hard to find some feel-good, positive stories… if there’s news around the country, even if it’s not happy, REPORT IT… don’t give me another “awww, this 4th-grade teacher collects stamps to donate $5 to charity every week)” Their female morning anchors are too old, Chesley is trying but just not fitting in, and their weather with that wiz-o-meter crap is awful.
Channel 46 — Decent morning show, but their other newscasts are lacking. The opposite of Channel 11, they try too hard to be this hard-hitting, tough-questions station… I mean, you don’t have to get in somebody’s face EVERY WEEK to be a respectable news organization. As far as the morning show, Hutchins is average and Rudat tries so freakin’ hard to be Ryan Seacrest that it’s not even funny, but Jennifer Valdez is GORGEOUS and I could watch her read the phone book every day.
Channel 2 — In my opinion, the best all-around news organization — timely, accurate, and the most informative. Their weather is the best team by far and they get things right almost all the time. Their news reporters may not have a lot of pizzazz, but they get the facts, get the most important details to the forefront, and they follow up on most every story. Their morning team is the most efficient, with what people NEED at 5-freakin-30 in the morning — traffic, weather, the latest local headlines and any major storylines that happened overnight. However, when Amanda Rosseter left a few years ago, that was a major blow — she was all that and a bag of chips.
I, for one, as a lifelong Atlanta resident and regular news consumer, would like to see more WSB style on ALL our local stations, and I’d like a few anchors and reporters on the air who, oh, I don’t know, maybe GREW UP in Atlanta and kinda know something about our state? Other than long-time journalists like John Pruitt and Chuck Dowdle, that’s becoming harder to find. Oh, well, one can only hope…

A few years ago, I was waiting for my Atlanta-bound Delta flight at Chicago’s OHare terminal. I saw who I thought was Suchita getting it on with her Caucasian boyfriend in the corner. When we boarded, he kissed her goodbye and she got on the plane. As she passed by my seat going toward the back of the plane, I asked her “Aren’t you Suchita from Fox 5″. Her limp reply “yeah” and continuted walking to her seat in the back. I thought she was kinda cold and aloof, and thought she did not want to be recognized by her “fans”. May be she had had a long weekend with her boyfriend in chicago because she sure looked tired coming back home on Sunday night flight.

GDA’s loss…Suchita brought sophistication and humor to the morning show. She’s way too cool and outgoing to be confined to just doing the news, what a snoozfest. I’ve met her and she’s a ginuinely kind and caring person. She’s headed for huge times ahead. Ya know, I posted a video on YouTube about a year ago, about a funny bit they did on Good Day Atlanta. Hmmm… almost no hits on that video. It started to make me wonder how popular the show really was. Then I started to really examine the show closer, and thought to myself, the on-air staff at Good Day Atlanta don’t come off very friendly on the air. I started to think, if they are that cold on the air, can you imagine running into them in public? As for Suchita, it took me 2 years to learn how to pronounce her full name, and I always thought she was the coldest of the entire staff.

The one thing I did like about Fox 5 is their morning news show, don’t watch much else on Fox.
Suchita did seem a bit stuck up and I always wondered if Mark acted extra silly to liven things up a bit, because Jeff Hill isn’t much fun either. Cheryl & Mark are the ones who joke around most.
Back to GMA for me. Only reason I watched Fox anyway is because for awhile they were the only local early morning news show on the air in Atlanta.

I know the lay of the land at WAGA. Suchitha was a pilliow princess who wanted to come in and read the prompter, look pretty, associate with the local hip-hop community and if your not a celebrity have nothing to do with you. She is one of the approximately 110 people let go by WAGA in the past year and a half. Many of whom were behind the scenes but contributed much nonetheless. This is no great loss. Eye candy can always be replaced !

I did notice Suchita didn’t look happy the last few days but I thought maybe she wasn’t feeling well. Not that she look incredibly excited about anything ever. I just hope the person replacing her vibes well with Mark. He seems like a genuine down-to-earth guy. I turn the tv to Fox 5 every night before going to bed. But I watch it mostly because of traffic and weather. I leave out early so I need to know what’s going on before heading out the door. The crew seemed okay…no complaints from me. I wish Suchita the best.
To all the negative bloggers: It makes me sad to know my children go to school with some of your children. And it makes me shake my head that people think like some of you.

I’m up at 6 most mornings, and leave shortly after. I sometimes tune in just for background noise or a little info in case some big event happened overnight, to get the temp etc. But I think it’s clear who watches these shows in earnest..you can tell by who’s on them as guests, hosts, etc. Most go for the ghetto scene, but channel 46 goes for the younger grunge crowd. They have a male queen with eyeliner, a black woman with pouty/ugly lips and a young perky hispanic who is annoying as hell.

Fox 5 is a good station. I like the Morning Show Team. Suchita will be missed. She was a down to earth kinda girl and because she is a sophisticated lady some of you mistake that for being uppity!!! Classy women always have that air about them and I love it !!! I liked it when she wore her hair down. !!! Now if there would get rid of Amanda Davis. She always appears nervous and afraid. Her hands always underneath the desk. Also get rid of the 11pm guy Tom Hayes. He isn’t a good fit. I really like Doug Evans and Deirdre Dukes they are a good fit together. They seem like down to earth nice people you would like to hang out with. That is important in news to feel that connection. Suchita is very seductive and not so young anymore, when I first moved here I sent a nice fan email to her and was ignored, rude? I find her to be one of those that will not have kids, so as not to ruin her shape or career goals, I also think she is a social climber and probably a bit ashamed of her Indian heritage, over compensates by not touching the lower classes. There are 100’s of thousands to take her place and not a one has real assets, better living through chemicals.

I watch the show most mornings getting ready for work. Like what many others have said, I always found her to be cold. She always seemed over it. Nothing personal against her. Maybe it is something in the water at WAGA. Lisa Rayam also comes across very cold on air. I ran in to her at McDonald’s a couple of years ago I can tell you that she is equally cold in person.
Cheryl White always seems to stumble. Sorta ditzy and just not together. Mark is ok most of the time. Jeff seems to straddle the fence best with being professional, yet fun and approachable. Overall, the show is average at best. I hate those “House Calls” segments. Those should be later in the hour after I have left for work.(Better yet not at all.) LOL Most of the topics and the doctors themselves are boring.

You are correct that wealthier people are not better than less fortunate people, just like men aren’t better than women, whites are not better than blacks, and heterosexuals are not better than homosexuals. I miss her! I watched the show most mornings and sometimes ended up late for work because of the segments.
She seems to be the perfect balance of professional, intelligent, well-spoken, and fun / smiley! Intelligence is something that is sorely lacking in Atlanta morning TV. Being that fun and intelligent is a very rare combo!
She was the only one that would make me smile regularly when I tuned in – which is why I did.
There are usually such clowns on local TV… I thought she was something that you would usually only see on a national level show. Oh well, makes sense that she moved on.
Back to morning radio for me… I’ll watch wherever she goes next!

Such a TOTAL LOSS. She brought such class to the show. Now I will be forced to watch a cartoonish version of the show, (no offense other folks), but Suchita was extremely beautiful, intelligent, classy, and REAL. Wow – Tyrone and Rex — pretty strong opinions about Suchita. For someone you really didn’t care for, it seems you spent a fair amount of time watching her to actually come to these conclusions. Odd?!? Or — did you actually not spend any significant amount of time watching her and are now judging her based on absolutely no context at all? Either way — lame sauce guys. If you prefer other anchors – cool – your prerogative, but to hate on her like this in this one-sided way is sad. . .for YOU!
And Linda — this no-hand shaking thing for the no-names you point out is hilarious. I have had the opportunity to meet Suchita a number of times at various events around Atlanta — she not only was super kind and engaging and yes, shook my hand, the first time we met, but also REMEMBERED me on subsequent occasions and came up to ME to say hello . . .and I ain’t no celebrity.
Suchita – thanks for bringing smarts, personality, class and charm every morning to Fox 5. The last 8.5 years have been a pleasure . . .wishing you much luck and happiness in your future endeavors.

I know what i saw time and time again, the no hand shaking deal with people without a big name. Like I said before, I even sent email to Channel 5 about why she seemed to always have a paper, book, pencil, whatever in her hand when Mr. No Name came by but let Ms. Popular Movie Star or Mr. Rock Star come by and she fell all over herself trying to shake their hands. You might find it hilarous. I thought less of her as a person by her treatment of just the ordinary guy. I never met her but others on here who did run into her (think I saw a couple others) were quite put off with the way she came across to them, brushing them off, 1 lady even telling her how pretty she was. You might not have a recognized name when you met her, but were you with a recognized name?? From what I saw, I tend to believe the others who met her and she just did not like the lowly people I guess. What I found hilarious, really, was when she “tried” to get overly friendly with the Duchess of York, asking could she call her “Fergie” and the response from the lady was to call her “The Duchess.” I would love to see a replay of that. Now THAT was hilarous……

My impressions of the show? Not very good. But I thought Suchita was just fine. It’s a freaking morning show, folks. Local news is a joke in most places. What I found unwatchable about the morning show on FOX 5 was the amount of trivial content. Who the hell cares about some young teen’s birthday? And then the non-celeb guests were usually unwatchably boring. Maybe that’s why Suchita didnt feel it worth her trouble to shake their hands?
While I am at it, here is my pet peeve about local weather. Do not waste my time talking verbose metereological talk. JUst give me the freaking forecast of the weather , is it going to rain? when? percentage? how much? How cold? how hot? That’s it. Put the weather details in a freaking scroll or something.

Noooooo! I enjoyed watching Mark and Suchita!! I am sad to see the changes that have been made to the hosts. I appreciated the humor that they would bring every morning. This stinks! I will miss you Suchita! I hope that Mark comes back! I love him as an anchor, but I would prefer to see the two of them together.
I also don’t like the interim weather lady that used to do the traffic. I want the original format back. Waahhhhh! LOL

I didn’t watch the show much, but when I did see it, I thought Suchita was lovely, smart and intelligent! I will miss her and I wish her the very best. If Karen Graham takes her place, she needs to pay attention to her choice of clothing on the show. Since she has lost weight, she dresses a bit tacky. Karen you look great, but please…keep it neat, professional and adult-like…

Did anyone notice the replacement guy on FOX 5 with an irritation in his throat on today’s show. I just surfed over, noticed some new anchor on the show and GOLD!!! Ha ha. THe FOX 5 crew was so barebones today that they didnt have a second person seamlessly take up where he left offf. He was left alone uncomfortably to twist awkardly in front of the camera until the camera went black for a second and then to commercial. Upon return from the ad, he makes a quick apology. Felt bad for the guy.

I have always said that Suchita’s talent would take her far beyond Atlanta. Face it, Atlanta is just an average “international city” wanna be. Suchita belongs in better markets like New York, or L.A.. She is so “un-Atlanta”! I wouldn’t be surprised to see her on a TV series or some role where her talents can be better appreciated. The girl’s going places!

ust like local employers get rid of folks not performing their duties as mngt expects, Fox 5 probably canned her for some reason, performance, ratings etc. There are not too many sacred cows in local news, but there sure are plenty of unattractive women in local tv. From what I read on this forum, this lady wasnt ugly, but i didnt watch her or her channel, and that means they are expendable in the eyes of the rating gods.

I really loved the show when it was Suchita, Mark, Cheryl and Jeff. I can’t stand the show with Mark and Karen..I turn it off. I wish they had let Cheryl, stay on the morning show. Cheryl seems like a friend or neighbor very easy going. Karen on the other hand just doesn’t seem to fit into morning show.

After watching QVC for a short while decided to get the morning news, turned to 5 and they were saying a goodby to Suchita with a few clips. Do not know if this is the first mention of her leaving or not but they said she “resigned.”

As with many of the contributors to this blog, give credit where it is due: Suchita has done an amazing job bringing sass and class to Atlanta’s airwaves over the past 8+ years. In addition to her engaging smile and award winning personality, she had become the ad hoc spokesperson for Atlanta’s emerging multiculturalism. Anyone who can see beyond black and white in our city recognizes this and is due a standing ovation. That said, to lose her presence as a local personality will be counted as a loss though the void she will leave as the face of our cosmopolitan city may set us back decades, especially considering the abysmal gap in the local media talent pool. As she continues her ascent let us all take a moment to congratulate her on her next big adventure and thank her for countless contributions she has made to our city.

Really bummed that Suchita left Fox. Love the team and the format of the show, felt like family rather than just another stuffy news show. She will be missed and wish she (and others who leave the show) would make the announcement themselves since you become a member of the family. with that said FOX is still the best around.

I thought Suchita was a very anchor and obviously quite attractive. The current GDA crew are all very good but the new format of the show, mostly news, has ruined it. Who wants or needs 5 1/2 hours of news every morning? I think the original format worked very well. I believe that may have led to her leaving since she seemed to enjoy the entertainment portions of the show. There was another Indian host, Gurvir Dhindsa, who took over after Amanda Davis moved to news anchor. A black female host followed her and was on for 1-2 years, then Suchita came in 2002. She and her team mates did a great job and she will be missed. Good luck to her.
I would vote for Joanne Feldman as a replacement. She is personable, competent and has good on screen presence. Karen Graham is also a good choice. But who knows what this station has in mind. Certainly not the fans enjoyment.

Denise Dillon is by far the best replacement especially if they want to make the show more serious. Good looking, professional, great speaker, lovely in real life and a real journalist who can actually edit…………
FOX may also want to consider trying to get Nancy Loveland back down from Michigan as she was always a surefire ratings winner fro the show.

I neither liked or disliked Suchita, she was just always there. I agree with most people that Mark Hayes needs to go very soon. He’s like a robot with a stuffed up nose. I think a good morning team for Atlanta would be ex-WSB tv member, Kimberly Kennedy and Jeff Hill. I like Cheryl White as well but Karen Grahm would not be a good replacement. Hope that everything goes well with Suchita though.

Suchita was ok – just ok. Karen Graham is annoying! She looks sickly and it is distracting. I’m tired of the Grady Doc. She’s also Irritating and seems to be seeking to be the next Sanjay Gupta type. still mixed feelings on Mark. I like Cheryl. No one asked my opinion, but there they are.

I liked Suchita. She seemed friendly and personable. I saw at Perimeter mall a couple of days before Christmas and I said “Hey Suchita!” She said “Hi, Happy Holidays!” and we both kept going. Very beautiful classy Lady. My husband was with me and he goes “Who was that?” I said SUCHITA! I’m going to miss her smiling face in the am. The two on this morning just did not get it for me.Guess I’ll have to watch

Met her a couple of times at charity events. Very alooft and would not shake hands or make serious eye contact. She is very easy on the eyes, but made it clear not to approach her unless given permission. Also amazing how much more she “knew” about the chefs food than they did.
