(ABC/GREG ZABILSKI)
Jennifer Grey had the time of her life, ultimately taking home the mirror-ball trophy tonight.
By far, she was the superior dancer compared to her competitors: the exuberant, youthful Kyle Massey and the controversial Bristol Palin. From a pure dancing perspective, only Brandy had a shot at beating Grey but she was eliminated last week.
Grey’s role as Baby in “Dirty Dancing” gave her the instant nostalgia vote. The thoughts of her and the late great Patrick Swayze was especially resonant early in the competition. And her fans embraced her roller-coaster ride of injuries and emotions.
This season 11 spurred more blog-Twitter-Facebook buzz than any prior one thanks to Palin and the political connection with her mom. As a result, the ratings on Monday night jumped to 23.7 million, the highest of this fall for any non-sports program.
The final dances didn’t really change the judges’ impressions of each. They marveled over Grey’s skills and passion. They loved Kyle’s stagecraft and power to connect with viewers. They gave Palin, the obvious amateur who made it to the finals on the strength of the voters (not the judges), props for pushing hard to improve at all levels.
Len Goodman noted that Kyle attacks the dance while Bristol is all about neatness and precision. “He has the wow,” he told Bristol on finals night. “You’ve got the how.”
Grey, at age 50, is often called a “professional dancer” based on the film in 1987 “Dirty Dancing.” She actually has had chronic neck problems the past two decades stemming from a car accident and has never been a “pro” dancer. Given how her career went nowhere after the film, this is a great resurrection for her. Hopefully, she’ll find some work from this.
Oh, and that Situation “dance” would not have gotten him into a Chippendale’s audition.

I think all was made right tonight. This was purely dance at its best and the best man won. If this had been the measure all along, there would not have been all the bickering back and forth. Well done Jennifer, you deserved it.

It’s obvious that Jennifer was the best dancer, and that Bristol had no right being there. If Bristol Palin was anyone else, she would have been gone long ago. Luckily, the correct person was chosen. This one was for Swayze.

It’s amazing that people think you hate someone just because you think they don’t dance well. What does hate have to do with it? It’s dance, pure and simple. If you can’t see that, then perhaps you have the problem.

I based it mainly on the dancing, and I still stand by what I have said before, Bristol should have been long gone from the competition. She unfortunately can not dance and to me did not seem as if she was putting much effort into it. The best person won it, even though I was still partial to Kyle.

Carl no hate from me here… Just questioning whether you felt that kind of comment exuded style and grace because in my book that’s far from it!! As for her position on the show, I’ve danced since I was 3 and while Bristol executed the steps she didn’t DANCE… And I stand by my statement… Not everyone is going to like you and there are many other ways she could’ve responded to that question then by basically saying “F you” to the “haters”… That’s my problem with you saying she had style and grace… By the same token I think Michael Bolton was just as ungraceful with his comments after he was eliminated… My standards for everyones behavior is the same and a comment like hers is completely distasteful!

@ jaja…you should do your homework before making a comment like that. Although, Jennifer danced in movie, she does NOT have a dancing background….aside from taking a few classes as a little girl, she has not had any extensive training nor does she have a dancing background. She simply has natural talent, unlike Bristol.

I have never voted for any DWTS contestant, but I made an exception this monday and voted for Jennifer. It upsets me that a show about dancing that celebrates talent and sheer effort is getting polluted by politics. You don’t need to be an expert to tell that Grey is simply the best dancer. To top it off, she danced through the pain of her injuries like a real trooper. Her determination and passion for the dance deserves to be rewarded.
To me it’s not about making sure that Bristol loses, it’s about making sure that Jennifer wins. Jennifer’s victory restores a little bit of my faith in America, that in general we still value skill and performance above simple partisan politics.

To me, Jennifer was a little phony. She took dance lessons and was a dancer early on. She claimed on Ellen that she is shy and does not dance at weddings. That is real surprising. She talked about her neck inquiry, but if one has a ruptured disc, they CANNOT do the moves that she did the very next day. She is a great dancer, I’ll give you that, however she was not truthful as so many people have been commenting on. Bristol did improve but still not enough and that crude remark was wrong. Kyle should have won.

I think it’s funny that everyone keeps picking on Bristol for being an “unwed” mother. Lanette, yes you can dance and move with a ruptured disc with the right medication and pain pill because I had one once and I was able to dance and move at my wedding and even did the limbo so yes you can dance and move. Painful yes but you can do it. When you have something this important in your life you get so hip you just don’t think about pain. Remember how it was when you had your baby or did you sleep thru that part of child birth. Brandy should have been in the top three not Bristol. That would have been a great final to watch. Ok yes Bristol did improve somewhat over the weeks but not enough to be in the final three. She should have gone a few weeks after Michael Bolton who by the way I did not see at the final last night guess he is still mad. If you can’t take the heat then get out of the kitchen (Michael) but in this case get off the dance floor. This was suppose to be DWTS but Bristol is no star so she should have never been on this show to start with. It’s all about her mother and that is plain and simple. I saw her mother showing up at her hotel but not at the show thank God the camera were not showing her if she was their which I don’t think it was important to her to see her daughter in the final. Donna if you are part of the Tea party like you say and don’t like Sara Palin then don’t support her to run for president (PLEASE). When you dance you are suppose to lose weight not gain weight. At least Kyle lost several pounds and Bristol must have been behind him to pick them up. That red outfit was not very becoming. Infact that is probably why they kept Bristol covered up thru out the season of DWTS and gave her ugly outfits to wear. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone and be safe if you and your families are driving on these busy highway. God watch over you.

This is Liberal’s America – NOT Palin’s. That why you “progressives hate them so much, because the Palin family is the epitomy of what a liberal “family” looks like (very untidy!).
No one seems to remember that Patrick Swayze did not care for Jennifer Grey – there was no love lost between them at all! I give the grace award to Swayze’s widow for letting the drama queen lay it all out for her final act!

The right person deserved to win! I did vote for Jennifer, and got my vote in on the phone in less than 5 minutes. I still am mystified as to how Bristol got as far as she did, but I do not work ‘behind the scenes”. Kyle was also very good, and should be proud of himself-he did a terrific job and exhibited a lot of energy and charisma. Brandy also was excellent, and should have been way ahead of Bristol. But things work in mysterious ways, but Brandy should pat herself on the back for her accomplishment. Glad the show turned out the way it did.

I agree with most all comments in that am glad Jennifer won. She deserved it!! And for those of you that don’t think the Tea Party/Republicans had any effect. Look at Bristol beating out Brandy. Everyone knows that Brandy was a better dancer. What a final it would have been with Brandy and Jennifer. I hope that politics does not any effect on this show in the future.

Jill, it is the twits like you in the country that just pour on the hateful talk and speech at Bristol Palin. People like you just bomb her 24/7 and then when she makes one comment that winning would be like flipping the bird at the critics, you are horrified and indignant that she would say it. Can you really be this stupid?

Amanda and other haters-
Would you please post some pictures of yourself so that I can determine whether you are a “cow” or not? What, classless, trailer-trash liberals you must be!
Jennifer Grey was a great dancer and deserved to win. Kyle was NOT a polished dancer but exhibited a lot of enthusiasm and confidence and won the voters over. And Palin had absolutely ZERO experience- the only real non-entertainer on the show, except for the two athletes- and exhibited tremendous progress and poise.
The results were dead-on, but unfortunately the reaction of the leftist haters was predictible.

Brady’s problem was Brandy. She Thought the Trophy was hers. Her attitude cost her.

Shannon: Get serious. All that complaining from Jennifer, and a ruptured disc just yesterday?
Danced right through a ruptured disc? You believe that? I got so sick of her grunting and her pity parties.

Jennifer cried every episode, over Patrick, over her neck pains then she would get on the floor and dance like she never felt a thing. All of the women that voted for her are fans of the one movie she is known for DIRTY DANCING, which in case anyone has not seen it, she played a DANCER! She is a great dancer, as was, Drew, Nicole, Kristi and I AM TIRED of ABC allowing singers and who spent most of their youth in music videos (Mya, Brandy, Joey Fatone, Mel B, Aaron Carter) and ice skaters who have dealt with choreography on this SHOW! They At least Kyle improved as the season progressed and his dancing on Monday was great! Even Bristol as much as I am tired of hearing about her entire family including her baby daddy, Levi, started off as one of the worse and by the finale I thought it was Jennifer Grey I saw dancing in that sparkly black outfit. Even though her facial expressions did not change anytime she danced! I am DONE watching this show which continues to allow entertainers with an extensive background dancing compete with reality starts and ex child actors who have very little to no dancing experience, do well enough to stay until the finale, and still lose to the person who was the best from the beginning ANYWAY!
Kyle should have won!

Jubie,
Don’t get it twisted – What Brandy had was called confidence. Maybe you should try it sometimes. It works!!!!!

Maybe next season they should have 12 people who have never danced (and maybe some of your leftsided goons could make the cut) and call it dancing with no experience and see if you get any ratings!! I doubt it….Wake up and smell the roses!!!

Also, all you people making flippant, disrespectful comments could not have and probably would not have been able to hold a candle to what Bristol was able to accomplish in this season. So get over yourselfs and take a big hard look in the mirror!!

It is not hate it’s keeping it 100 and calling a spade a spade. Florence Henderson was voted off had more points than nonrhytmic uncoordinated Bristol. Hell I listen to Hip Hop however if you turn on some Latina or Country music my heart could feel the vibe. Bristol dances with her head instead of her heart while listening to music her head tries harder than her heart. Next Audrina was voted off had more judges point than Bristol was voted off. Next Rick Fox was voted off had more points than Bristol was voted off. Now the straw that broke the camels back was Brandy being voted off her & Jennifer were neck & neck from the beginning for the most part except for that day Jennifer had 60 Brandy had 58, Kyle had 56 & the teen advocate had 53 the day Brandy went home. But the T party movement started with Florence, Audrina, Rick Fox & then Brandy got people attention. I guess a apple doesn’t fall from the I entitled tree HUM. It took Brandy’s incidence to get the public attention that a web site for conservatives was telling people to vote for Bristol as many times as you can & to make up different e-mails if you have to it was reported on CNN, MSNBC, Headlines News & TMZ along with many more. You guy be aware of how Sara Palin will manipulate the Internet to make herself look good look ahead & let’s all rock the vote in 2012 or else remember season 11 DWTS plus Teen Advocate. To that person that calls it hating I guess when her mom put others down as if she’s breathing different air is HATING too. That night of voting I couldn”t get through so I then pray Lord please don’t let the DEVIL this one to since I not able to get through Via internet. The next morning I finally got through barely. I did not want to see the show because I didn’t want to feel like that man shooting did. So I went to bed I woke up about 10 minutes before the show & saw Bristol being told she was 3rd & at that moment that God had his hand in the situation by having America stand up & vote. I’m telling you be careful the Conservatives are like roaches once you get one in the mutiply & are hard to get rid of. I believe that DWTS plus Teen advocate should lower public % to the final outcome instead of 50% it should only be 10% she if another non dancer is on they’ll go home fair & square.

Jennifer deserved it…she was clearly the best dancer among the three who were left.
It’s obvious that a lot of people voted for Bristol Palin as a political statement…but so what? I bought a copy of Hillary Clinton’s book (which I never intended to read) for the same reason….just because Tucker Carlson said it would never sell.
