‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ recap, episode 6: Gettin’ kinda pitchy, dawg!

Every episode so far this season has featured NeNe Leakes complaining about her imploding marriage with Gregg to anybody within earshot of her.
This time, she does so yet again to Kim Zolciak. NeNe, who appears fully recovered from her plastic surgery, harps on Gregg’s inability to communicate.
Later, we see Gregg for only the second episode this season when Cynthia Bailey and her boyfriend Peter Thomas show up to the Leakes’ home so Peter can give NeNe’s lazy 20-year-old son Brice some advice about running a nightclub. (This is several months before Peter’s local Uptown Restaurant and Lounge shuts down).
But as NeNe imbibes more wine, she starts getting into Gregg’s face. After Cynthia said Gregg looks good, NeNe mocks him by saying he just dressed up now, that he usually is in a robe. Gregg didn’t appreciate that and says so. He later tells all of them that he didn’t feel the need to talk if he didn’t feel like it. NeNe then gets in his face and says he is not a good communicator.
Later, NeNe tells Cynthia that Gregg spends all his time in the basement, sometimes sleeping there. Cynthia feels understandably uncomfortable. She tries to defend Gregg, saying she can tell he still loves her. But NeNe flat out says, “I’m really thinking about a divorce.”
Based on the gossip since the show was taped in May, Gregg and NeNe have gone through at least a period of separation but no divorce papers have been filed that anybody has seen.
Although NeNe was yet again the emotional core of the show, Kim provided plenty of requisite comedic moments and probably got more airtime than anybody else.
Besides a garage sale to clear out four huge storage units of very expensive clothing and furniture, she works with Kandi Burruss on a new record based on her latest catchphrase, “The Ring Didn’t Mean a Thing.”
Kandi and her producer buds come up with a new dance track for Kim. (Kandi also brings in Sheree’s hairdresser Lawrence to try to groom him into the next RuPaul.) Kim is nervous when she hears Kandi sing the hook. She isn’t sure she can hit those high notes.
She does make an attempt. And boy, she is godawful. She has pitch problems. She has no range. Simon Cowell would verbally flay her if he heard her untethered by AutoTune. “Tardy for the Party” worked because it involved virtually no range. Kandi gave her a more challenging song on purpose to see if it might inspire Kim to take some voice lessons again. (I can’t imagine that will happen.)
After some fruitless time in the studio, a flabbergasted Kandi tells Kim to listen to the track on her own time and practice a bit. But Kim is not happy with the song. She later tells Kandi this. Kandi naturally takes offense.
“Kim can say whatever she wants about the track but raise your hand if you have a Grammy,” Kandi said to the Bravo cameras, raising her hand. (Yes, Kandi got a Grammy for co-writing TLC’s “No Scrubs.”)
Kim’s current song is called “Google Me,” which isn’t getting anywhere near the reaction of “Tardy for the Party.” It was not produced by Kandi.
“I have a good ear for music,” Kim said with a straight face. “As an artist, I can’t do a song I don’t love.” (Artist? She just called herself an artist?)
In other moments:
- Cynthia expresses doubts about Peter to her ex-fiance Leon Robinson. Leon and Cynthia never got married but had a daughter. He flies down from New York to see their child three or four times a month. Leon says he thinks Peter and Cynthia do love each other and that he just wants what will make Cynthia happy. He felt he and Cynthia looked great on paper but had different priorities. Peter later tells Cynthia he hasn’t given a ring because he isn’t sure how committed she really is. When she said she is ready to marry him, he promises her a ring soon.
- Phaedra Parks pops up at Kim’s garage sale and said she’s going to be induced in a week. The other ladies do the math and openly question how she could be induced at (supposedly) seven months. Phaedra said her baby was already eight pounds. She also claims she knows someone who had a kid weighing nine pounds three months early. Really? Kim and NeNe both openly wonder why Phaedra is prevaricating on her time of conception. Phaedra’s response to the cameras: “The ladies are grilling me about the due date. Nobody has a job. They have to do something to fill up their spare time!”
- Sheree Whitfield? She was an afterthought this episode. She showed up in one mini-moment, the 30-second segment they show about 45 minutes into each episode. She tells Kim about how her last date “Doctor” Tiy-E Mohammad stays in a Holiday Inn. Nope. Kim said that is definitely a sign this guy is a financial dud. As we noted last week, that is a relationship already ensconced in Nowheresville.

Team Kim and Nene they need their own shown they are Thelma and Louise. Kandi needs to stop being so disrespectful to Kim if she doesn’t want to do anymore music with Kim then don’t but instead all she does is talk behind Kim’s back. Sheree and the Holiday Inn too funny. Phadra is lying for some reason and I want to know what it is.

Nene needs to leave Gregg anyway if he cheated, Sheree and her pretend doctor and WOW Kim is a nurse? I am surprised. Phadra is a compulsive liar but why? I love Kandi’s new single Leave U and Kim’s new song Google Me but it isn’t even available on itunes yet but the song is HOT and it is to my knowledge Kandi’s producers produced it.

Phaedra who the hell has ever see or heard of a woman being induced to have a baby and she is only 7 months pregnant? ANd then she had the nerve to say her baby weighs 8 punds already????? She must be a full blown diabetic. The only way a doctor would induce at 7 months is if the mother or the baby’s life is on danger. If you got pregnant before you got married who cares??????? You married a man fresh out of prison with no shame there is no shame in when you got pregnant. Phaedra is the worse liar I have ever seen.

I like Kim’s father, I see where she gets her personality from. But the problem is not Kandi’s song, its Kim’s voice. Kim likes to use people for whatever they are worth, Kandi is just giving her a taste of her own medicine, if she wants to sing, she is going to have to work hard to learn the craft. She has a sense of entitlement issues, that things evolve around her.

I watched episode 6 Sunday night.The show is becoming less interesting and entertaining. However , it is still my favorite and I will continue to watch.
I have one point to make. Why do black women settle or involve themselves with extremely physically unattractive black men.
For example , Cynthia is a very beautiful sexy thin shapely woman. However , her boyfriend is old ,short, lacks presence and a physique.There is nothing attractive about him.He looks like a nice old man. And to top it all off he is not wealthy. They do not look right together at all. Cynthia , a sexy young model should be with a tall sexy in shape wealthy man.
Cynthia said Greg looked good. Is a black womans standards that low. Greg is a old, ,overweight , pear shaped ( his stomach protrudes way past his chest , he has no chest) , double chinned , short , skin sagging , pot bellied man. Who is also not wealthy.
Imagine what these women have to go through during sex or foreplay when they are confronted with Peter and Gregs repulsive disgusting bodies( you can imagine what their bodies look like from the way they appear in their clothes )
Somebody explain to me why women physically involved themselves with physically out of shape men.The sex cannot be good and must be disgusting. Am I missing something here.

@attytom I would say you can’t have it all. Phaedra has a very attractive husband but he is a current parolee and has no money and it appears no prospects unless he is going to be a model. Life and love is a give and take so you have to determine what is important to you and physical beauty probably should be the last thing on your list since it fades and there is no guaranteee what a person will look like as they age. But you can pretty much determine what a person character will be in the future from their current behavior.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY nothing on this show that says housewife, good marriage or respectful women to me. This show highlights what America thinks about black women, to support its egotistcal and downgrading analysis of Black women shows how far we’ve come. I listen and hear black women sit and laugh it up every week about this show. Not realizing the joke is on them every minute of the show.
I’m all for entertainment on television, but you know what we have reached a pinnacle in our society where shows such as Atlanta Housewifes should be banned and an outraged by successful, faithfully, and REAL wifes of color show be the uprising. America, Essence, Ebony, and now AHW, keep reminding us we should never strive to have a normal life, and that black women will always have man problems, sex problems and relationship issues. For example why keep printing in those magazines I just mentioned articles such as “How To Keep Your Black Man” DO YOU EVER SEE ARTICLES LIKE THAT IN MAGAZINES FOR WHITE WOMEN???? WAIT FOR IT!!!!! They stereotype black women and we sit there and laugh it up like its no big deal. I personally know alot of black women who are successful, great wifes, terrific mothers and are actually giving back to thier communities. These women on AHW represent a slap in the face to everything we have worked for as a race to stamp out. For once I want to see shows that truly describe who we are, we all dont have drama in our lives and that seems to be all this show capitalizes on. WHERE THE HAM Sandwich IS THE BILL COSBY Shows of America, oh I forgot we are too busy laughing at ourselves to not realize America is laughing even harder at all of black women. Face it, Kim is a studio ONLY singer. It was obvious at the White Party as she sang with the track. She was, about, a step sharp. Now, Kim was challenging her range in which I will say kim is a Contralto (the deepest female voice) and she has no range (as other Contaltos have). Kandi wasn’t “picking” on Kim. If you want something, you have to work for it. And, you have to be open to what people, who have been in your shoes, is telling you. Vocally, Kim could use the instruction. But, Kim wants a “microwave” hit. Someone to do all the work and she just comes in and sings and expect people to make her sound good. In my opinion, Kandi wants her artist to be able to sing accapella (like Lawrence). And, why was Kim questioning why Lawrence was at Kandi’s? Now, if he would have come back nad said, “something that you have not done, and that’s sing”, that would have been funny as hell!!! Phaedra, Phaedra, Phaedra (or Pha-Pha for short), what baby is 8 pounds at 7 months gestation? Every baby that I know that was 2 months early has been under 5 pounds. I think Pha-Pha is off by two months. As big as she is? Pha-Pha, we don’t care if you begame pregnant by Apollo before your wedding. Personally, I don’t care if Apollo ain’t the daddy. Although, that would make for some hot drama! I agree with attytom, if he’s going to look horrible; he needs to at least be wealthy…so you have an incentive of being with him and having him rub up against you.

Here’s one for you….why do the RHWOA have pictures of their kids and hubbys in the intro shots, but the RHWOH (Hollywood) do not? No kids, no men in their photos…..I just noticed recently. I guess there is somebody for everybody, but who would actually cheat with Gregg? I can tell in the day he was proabably a good looking man still not bad for his age, his physique down the drain the only person I can see being with him a lady of the night or sister in the church I’m just saying. I would also say it is more than likely if he did stray he wasn’t getting the attention at home because NeNe has become too wrapped up in her own self, she needs to pay attention to those children of hers. Brice, lazy, disrespectful, triffle and with that being said she needs to show him the door, sure this is part of Gregg’s disgust.
