Host Tom Bergeron earlier today tweeted that the producers were flummoxed by who got nixed.
Well, I’m sure most of the viewers are, too: the Hoff is off!
The first dancer out is usually some lower-level has-been celebrity such as Shannen Doherty or Ashley Hamilton.
Former Atlantan and “Baywatch” star David Hasselhoff is cheesy for sure and he certainly danced poorly last night. Yet it’s still a shock he didn’t have enough voters to keep him around even a second week over the likes of Audrina Patridge and Margaret Cho. He is arguably the best known of the 12 contestants.
Maybe Hasselhoff should have competed in the German version of the show.
Another former Atlantan, Disney star Kyle Massey was paired with Hasselhoff for elimination but wasn’t necessarily in the bottom two. He had one of the higher dance scores (23 out of 30). Hasselhoff tied for the bottom at 15 with Cho and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. He obviously got fewer votes than those two.
The scores are 50% based on the three judges’ scores and 50% based on viewer votes.
Producers are probably concerned that losing Hasselhoff may mean a sharp drop off in viewers after a strong opening (21 million last night.)
If anything, this proves the producers didn’t rig the results. And, hey, they still have Bristol Palin!

I expected Margaret Cho to go first. Too much goofing off on the dance routine.

“He is arguably the best known of the 12 contestants.” You are kidding right. He is better know than some but not all. He is not better know than Rick Fox, Kurt Warner or Brandy. Maybe I am more of a sports fan than a TV fan. I do not know Kyle, “the situation” or Audrinia or the footloose lady or is it dirty dancing. Hoff is on the same level as Florence henderson to me.

David Hasselhoff is one of those people who just doesn’t know when to retire and call it a day. Sort of like Monica Pearson and Mary Hart. It’s just sad to see these older people hanging on just to stay in the spotlight.

Yeah riiiiight Shekita.. of course he did… normally those so opposed to homosexuality are closeted gay individuals. I saw him a spa in Midtown getting a laser procedure on his face last year. I thought Jesus didn’t like vanity. Who cares if someone is gay, that is not that issue at all. It is when they speak hateful stuff and then themselves are actually gay. OF COURSE HE DID IT… Men of God also are gay… give me a break.. like knowing and loving God are two different things.. get out of the ignaramous dark ages.. and stop believing everything someone tells you in ‘the church’ to get more and more of your money… wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and realize Jesus is about LOVE, not HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About time they made it about dancing and not about personalities. The judges scores should weigh in at 60% and the nutty public’s at 40%.

“Another former Atlantan, Disney star Kyle Massey actually had fewer votes than Hasselhoff but managed to stay alive because he had one of the higher dance scores (23 out of 30). ”
This is factually incorrect and should be changed. They announced on the show other couple in the “bottom two” was not necessarily the lowest vote getter, so you cannot make this conclusion.

Sorry Jay, but Hoff is better known than any of those you mentioned. I am guessing you are of the younger generation. I am not saying he is more talented, but due to Knight Rider, Baywatch, and the fact he is a laughable second tier has been has keep his name in lights far longer and higher than those others.
Fox was an average baller, Warner played the first half of his career outside the NFL, and Brandy is still working on longevitt though she is definitely on the right track. I am not a big Hasselhoff fan, but he is probably the best known, especially outside of the states.

Why all the hate on Bristol Palin? All she ever did wrong was have a baby as a teenager…like a great number of teenage girls do every year in America. Because you hate the mother, that automatically means hate the child?
A star is someone who is well known….and you all seem to know her name and everything about her!!

Actually Willy, no one hates Bristol and especially not because she’s a teenage mother. IMO, she is yet another person who has done nothing of substance to deserve this celebrity but still are paraded across TV like she’s worth paying attention to. Some of us are just tired of it.

The “hate” on Bristol is the convergence of several factors. First, there’s the caving to ideology when she said (rather practically) that abstinence didn’t work for teenagers and then reneged on that thanks to pressure (presumably from her mother). Now she’s an abstinence spokeswoman although she is well aware that abstinence doesn’t work. So I look at her as supporting policies that increase teen pregnancy.
Second, she is *only* famous because of her mother, and that means that she is going to be judged in tandem with her mother. So yes, there is judgment related to Sarah Palin, but since Sarah is the very reason that Bristol is known, that’s going to be the case.
Third, she is parlaying that secondhand fame in ways that put her in comparison with Kate Gosselin, the folks from Jersey Shore, Heidi and Spencer, etc.–and her very public on again/off again with her baby-daddy deliberately played out in the press (announcing their reengagement via a tabloid before they tell her mother?!) doesn’t help.
Does that help understand the Bristol hate?
Also, poor Hoff–and I’ve never heard of Rick Fox or Kurt Warner. Sorry, but being a household name among only half the population doesn’t quite make you a household name.

I think it’s Hoff’s ego. He think he is the $hit cause of the success of Baywatch. The most international watched show. It wasn’t Hoff’s acting or presence that made Baywatch a success. It was fake blonds in skimpy bikini’s. The sooner someone inform Hoff of that the sooner he will disappear.

I can differentiate between fact and opinion very well, thank you very much. There is absolutely no proof to support that statement. The show specifically said he was not necessarily second to the last, hence no red light drama. There is no way anyone can know for a fact that Kyle had less vote than Hasslehoff unless they had inside information and there is no evidence to support that the writer has that. Hence, a claim like that is not factual and should not be presented as facts. Other articles made that distinction that Massey was not necessarily in the bottom two and i see the change has been made here. You are the one who needs to get the clue. I know its obnoxious but i’m a stickler for facts.

He didn’t even make the statement that Massey had fewer votes than Hasselhoff. Where did you get that from? What he DID say was that The Hoff obviously got fewer votes than Cho and The Situation (because they each had the same judges’ score).

@Melissa. I fixed it after the fact once Sat pointed that out. I didn’t hear Tom say they weren’t necessarily the bottom two. I just assumed they were. So it’s possible Kyle garnered more votes than Hasselhoff. But it is true that the Hoff got fewer votes than Cho or the Situation since they all had the same judges’ score.

I think Sarah Palin is the dumbest political since Quale but I think it’s ashamed how you all treat her daughter. Sarah has narrow minded views to go along with her narrow minded town. Bristol has a chance to get out of Alaska & meet people from all over. I will bet that her views will change. She may not go to the left but she will be more open minded. Bristol will learn that you don’t demonize people just cause they don’t think like you, LOOK like you or worship like you. Just by entering in a relationship with Levi she has already proved that she doesn’t listen to her mom (in that case she should have). GIVE THE GIRL A CHANCE.

If Bristol didn’t have a political agenda, it would be different. However, consider the combination of these two facts:
* She said publicly that abstinence doesn’t work for teenagers (that is, as a practical matter, they won’t abstain).
* She is now a spokesperson for the abstinence movement.
This means a few things.
1) She is not a “dupe.” She knows abstinence doesn’t work.
2) She is ignoring what she knows in order to stay in the good graces of those who also admire her mother and in order to keep a paycheck.
3) She is contributing to teen pregnancy–not because of *her* pregnancy but because she is deliberately promoting a method for reducing it that she knows and has admitted does not work.
I don’t “hate” Bristol, but let’s not idolize or idealize her. Putting her on a popular reality TV show is problematic.
