Atlantan Erin Andrews excited by expanded ESPN/GMA roles

I visited the Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this week for a little ESPN/NASCAR stunt: placing sideline reporter Erin Andrews into a vehicle for a drive around the track with Dale Jarrett. The Speedway is hosting the Emory Healthcare 500 this weekend.

She had a blast as Jarrett drove the vehicle up to 175 miles per hour. She said she quickly felt comfortable except when he hugged the curves. Jarrett offered for her to go behind the wheel after the ride, but she declined.

Andrews, an Atlanta resident, became a brief headline fixture and “Oprah” visitor after a man (now imprisoned) posted nude peephole videos of her without her knowledge. She recently came in third on “Dancing With the Stars.” She also signed a new contract with ESPN to expand her duties beyond college football sideline work. She will now host a GameDay show for ESPNU and do more feature stories.

She is also doing occasional stories for “Good Morning America,” a dip into the non-sports world.

Erin is still upset that Nicole Scherzinger even competed in “Dancing With the Stars,” given her previous dance credentials compared to the other contestants.

Entertainment Tonight tagged along, as did a small gaggle of media:

Here’s my video interview with her. I don’t think I got anything remotely newsworthy out of her but here you go:

An historic day – the first time I’ve been first on a posting! Cool!

Good interview and she really is a nice person – a good knowledgeable sports person. Being flat out beautiful, sports knowledgeable – what more could us couch potatoes ask for in a potential sweetheart?

If the media will ever let that “event” find it’s resting place – maybe she can continue being the top flight reporter she was before the “event”. Time to move on past that.

Very beautiful, smart, well spoken lady Gator and she doesn’t need a teleprompter like our first community organizer:-)!

Rodney, stick to pop culture tv and radio stories. You were WAYYYYY out of your element trying to talk sports with Erin and pretty much embarrassed yourself.

That’s because there IS nothing remotely newsworthy about her. Give her a reality show with the rest of the media attention hoores.

Extremely over-rated. Always has been.

well, it ended up third – bummer – but she is a nice person and the media needs to put away the ‘event’ when discussing her!

Now she’s complaining about losing DWTS? Figures! Typical Gator….always a victim. Boo hoo. Has anyone ever gotten as far as she has in her career by talking through their nose? Her nasally delivery was annoying during her time covering the Thrashers and the Braves, and it’s only gotten worse. I’ll take Suzy Kolber over this phony “victim” any day.

Rodney – Thanks for the interview and I appreciate the fact that the AJC is trying to bring the video element to some of the print reporting. Thats cool. But one thing I have to say that might help you the next time you interview for video – unless you are going to edit the tape, try not to step on the comments your subject is making. You asked a question, please let them finish. Try to remember, it is not about you or what you think. We are watching for them and what they have to say. Trying to listen to an interview where the interviewer is stepping all over the subject’s comments is extremely frustrating. Try to refrain from “commenting/adding to” until the subject is through with their thoughts. I have been a long time field producer for CNN and have conducted way too many interviews to count. Not trying to be negative here, just constructive. Thanks again buddy for your effort. I do look forward to your next interview. :)

Other than being the victim of a crime, why is she so popular. She was a sideline reporter with a nice rack. Now every move she makes is news?

Way overrated. ESPN has great reporters who are women… She is not one of them. I guess Dagmar will need a scandal to catipult her career now.

I’m sorry that she was a victim, but I feel like she IS milking it.

I’m sorry…I just don’t get it. Very plain (at best) a horrible voice and limited sports knowledge.
