Mike Posner’s ‘Cooler Than Me’ overtakes Katy Perry for top spot on Atlanta radio

51a-Ocq6TjL._SL500_AA300_Mike who?

Mike Posner is a new artist, a recent Duke Unviersity graduate who now has the most popular song on Atlanta radio thanks to his R&B/dance hit “Cooler Than Me.”

It upended four weeks at the top for Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” perhaps signaling the end of summer of sure. (Her new single “Teenage Dream” is rising quickly to take its place, jumping from No. 16 to No. 4 with 44 additional spins this past week.)

“Cooler Than Me” was spun 196 times the past seven days, 48 times with Star 94 and 74 times each for 105.7/The Groove and Q100.

Taylor Swift’s “Mine” is also gaining momentum thanks to crossover popularity on top 40 (Star, Q100) and country radio (the Bull, Kicks).

At No. 11 is another crossover hit by John Mayer with “Half of My Heart” a hit on both adult alternative (Dave FM) and top 40 (Star and Q100).

Usher, ranked at No. 20, has a hit that is not getting urban radio airplay: “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” is more a dance song and has gotten 71 spins on the Groove and 35 on Q100 (and only one on V-103).

The Groove significantly increased airplay on three songs: Usher’s song, as mentioned above; “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem and “Teenage Dream.” The station also added Flo Rida’s “Clue Can’t Handle Me.” Older songs by Ke$ha and Taio Cruz lost airplay.

Hot 107.9 added one new song this week: T.I.’s “Yeah Ya Know (Takers).” And it gave Waka Flocka Flame’s “No Hands” a boost from 10 to 42 spins.

V-103 added Keri Hilson’s “Breaking Point,” Kandi’s “Leave You,” Jagged Edge’s “Lay You Down” and Lloyd’s similarly titled “Lay It Down.”

Q100 added Jay Sean’s “2012″ and boosted airplay of new aforementioned songs by John Mayer, Katy Perry and Usher, as well as Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” and Ke$ha’s “Take It Off.” Songs off Q100’s playlist include Daughtry’s “Life After You” and Boys Like Girls “Love Drunk.”

With no program director, Star 94 is playing it cautious. There were no new song additions or major changes at all this past week except Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” was basically dropped off the playlist.

B98.5 added two relatively recent songs: Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” and Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister.” It also dropped Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You.”

Kicks added Dierks Bentley’s “Draw Me a Map” while the Bull added Frankie Ballard’s “Tell Me You Get Lonely” and Jamie Johnson’s “Playing the Part.”
