During the past couple of years, most of the local radio stations have raised money for the March of Dimes at the same time on their own stations.
This time, the stations are cooperating with Simon Malls: Lenox Square, Town Center at Cobb and Mall of Georgia. Stations, from Dave to WSB-AM, will air live from those three malls over August 6 and 7 to encourage shoppers to give money to the March of Dimes, which funds research and programs aimed at preventing prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality.
More from the press release:
Shoppers will have the opportunity to learn about the ABC’s of prenatal wellness and baby health from medical experts onsite, and March of Dimes miracle children will star in a Purple It! Fashion Show at all three malls on August 7 at 3 p.m. The Fashion Show at Lenox Square, presented by Macy’s, will feature the latest in maternity wear and children’s clothes.
The on-air radio campaign will officially kick off on July 26 with public service announcements and moving vignettes of real families sharing their stories of miraculous outcomes and, for some, of unexpected heartbreak. Listeners and shoppers can participate by donating online at www.marchofdimes.com/Georgia or contributing onsite at any of the participating Simon Malls.
“The March of Dimes work touches nearly every person in our community, and Atlanta’s radio industry is proud to support its vision that one day all babies will be born healthy,” says Dan Kearney, Vice President, Market Manager of Sales Cox Radio.
Atlanta’s radio community has donated nearly $1 million in on-air time and promotional support to the March of Dimes, and three of the Atlanta-area Simon Malls are opening their doors as fundraising sites for this important cause. Other corporate supporters include American Express, AirTran Airways, Clear Channel Foundation, Macy’s, AmeriPark and a host of retailers at Simon Malls.

I wonder how much this will hurt WSB-AM’s Care-a-thon for the AfFLAC cancer center?

The March of Dimes gets one star out of four from Charity Navigator. Really big spending on other than the actual charitable focus. There are much better charities to give to.
