VH1 going ‘Behind the Music’ with Atlanta’s Usher

E! has already done a biography on Usher. Now, it’s VH1’s turn on Monday at 8 p.m.

VH1 provided some preview quotes:

“Behind The Music: Usher” – Premieres Monday, July 19th at 8:00 PM ET/PT

Episode Quotes

“Life is an evolution. So as I look at the reality of who I’ve become, I’m very happy, you know, but at the same time I’m, I’m humbled in every way every day.” – Usher, reflecting on life

“I would not be who I am, what I am, without her.” – Usher on the influence of his mother

“Everyone started talking about this little kid that was just the next Michael Jackson.” – Jonnetta Patton, Usher’s mother, on his first singing appearance

“I could not understand why this was happening to me. Uh, but more than anything, I couldn’t understand why these people were turning their back on me.” – Usher on almost being dropped from his record label at age 15

“At heart I am a lover man, because I’d always wanted to be in a relationship, a serious relationship.” – Usher on seeking love

“I never thought of him cheating, I don’t know I just, I didn’t expect anything like that from him because of how much we loved each other. But I kept hearing about it, then I went to him and I asked him and he… admitted it. You know I just, I felt like… a fool, I felt like everybody knew something and I didn’t, and I’m… just now finding out.” - Rozonda “Chili” Thomas on finding out about Usher’s infidelity

“I hated the album. You know, because I just, I hated what it stood for. I hated that it was blowing up because people were thinking that ‘Oh my God, this is all about their relationship,’ it was just too much. It was a lot for, it was too much for me to handle.” - Rozonda “Chili” Thomas on Usher’s album, Confessions

“The relationship between me and Tameka, uh, definitely bothered my mother… She never chooses to speak about it, but, I think that she just didn’t approve of it because she didn’t want to.” Usher on the rift between his ex-wife Tameka and his mother

“I’ve been with him holding his hand since the age of 13. So he kind of wanted to step out and do his own thing as a man and I applaud him for that.” - Jonnetta Patton, Usher’s mother, on Usher firing her as his manager

“I felt like there was so much that I wanted to ask him. I wanted him to be clear about a few things with me and I wanted him to meet my son.” – Usher on the death of his father

I’m paying a lot, but I got a lot out of the deal too, you know. Um my boys, I love them, you know, and I’ll never be unavailable for them. I’ll always be there. Not having my father be there is what makes me the father that I am to my sons.” – Usher on fatherhood and being awarded joint custody of his two sons

“I began to regret the fact that my life was all over the place, and, and, everybody had an opinion about it. I hated it, you know, I couldn’t allow myself to be seen that way and I’d gotten lost.” – Usher on people criticizing his life choices and music

“They make me want to get up and live, you know. I have a purpose that is greater than just, you know, amassing wealth and being recognized, you know. This is, this is real, real life now.” – Usher on being a father

It actually looks pretty interesting. I’m in no way an Usher stan, but I’ve brought a few of his cd’s over the years and he seems to be a genuinely nice person. Kudos to him.

This guy is truly a geniune person. I went to school with Usher and he was a very humble person when it came to his family and his friends (I mean his real friends). His music back in shcool was GREAT and he is still living up to it till this day. So KUDOS to him.

I was never a big fan of Usher of his singing but I feel like he is a great dancer. I have nothing against Tameka but I question Usher’s intelligence. If you’re single, rich and an A-list celeb why would you choose a married woman with 3 kids. YES, SHE WAS MARRIED WHEN THEY STARTED UP. What mother on this earth would welcome this. I never believe this was a situation where his mom didn’t think any woman was good enough. It was a clear situation that her son could do better. I don’t even think her age was an issue. It was Tameka’s current situation.

Oh well, Usher will have to deal with his bad decisions for the rest of his life. My gut tell me that Tameka will be a handful even as an ex-wife. They still have b’days, graduations, weddings, etc….

Usher is an ignorant no-talent. People should just ignore him.

Usher would not have all these problems if he would just be completely honest that he is a homosexual. It would have saved Tameka & Chili grief. If Usher is a Christian why is he having sex outside of marriage?

I have know Usher and his entire family, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. since he was a child; he, like the rest of his family are some of the most genuine, authentic and down to earth people you ever want to meet; human yes, talented, yet, perfect no, but still the cream of the crop as far as human beings are concerned. Who among us, given the opportunities he has been given to do well, and to mess up, can throw the first stone?

I loved Usher since “My Way” and I still love him to this day! He is a great artist and I enjoy his music!! I hope that he continues on the straight and narrow path. As far as his relationship with his ex- wife tamika… Its not for me to judge but I did not approve of the relationship I felt that it was too much to take on a woman with already three children that you basically have to take on the responsibility of raising! He was a young man with no kids of his own at the time so i just thought it was not going to owrk and I was right!! so good luck Mr. Raymond and I love your music!!

I’ve been a fan of Usher since the start and have always thought of him as a great entertainer and a geniune person. From the interview, you now can understand how his past shaped his future. My parents lived in St. Elmo and it makes sense about his father’s absence due to drugs. My heart just goes out to Usher for his sense of emptiness and his loss. But his mother still raised a great man. He is not perfect for we all make mistakes. He is talented, handsome and intelligent. He has charisma that is just undeniable. I can see why Chili fell in love with him and from the Behind the Music interview – you can still tell there is a spark still there. For some reason, we love to see a ‘true love’ story and we are wishing that destiny brings them back together. There just appears to be more positive energy & chemistry between the two of them more than any of his other relationships. Even his mom was smiling talking about Chili on the interview – Usher that is a hint. Despite what people thought Confessions cd was about, to me it was just a GREAT album lyrically and artistically. I just love all his cds because you always have songs that get you up and moving or just chime into your emotions (He always had the Raymond vs Raymond in every album. That’s just who he is. Anyways, I wish Usher the best of luck in his future endevours. I will always be a fan of his music!!
