Atlantan Erin Andrews may bolt from ESPN

andrews ap

In an interview with USA Today, Atlantan Erin Andrews (AP photo, left) says she may leave ESPN when her contract is up in July.

She’s been inundated with offers since the end of her “Dancing With the Stars” run, in which she finished third.

“It’s actually been surprising. I will be honest: I did this show to get happy. I never thought of what it would do for me in my career. It’s crazy.”

Her final assignment as ESPN’s college sports sideline reporter before her contract expires will be coverage of the College World Series starting Saturday. She says she’s weighing everything from hosting to reporting: “I definitely know sports is in there, is in the mix.”

I’d be excited by this news, but I know that there’s someone waiting in the wings who will be just as annoying in the future. The product won’t be changed that much, the same producer will still be there to feed lines to the next reporter.

It wasn’t “Dancing With the Stars” that made your career, Erin. It’s that peep hole video that has made your career. You will never admit it, but it’s true.

Wow… now who’s going to say things like “guys the offensive linemen look really tired” or “guys the quarterback was really mad after that last interception”??? The peephole video thing worked, now go to Inside Edition or E.T. and get your nasally voice off of my football games!

Even before the peephole video, I think the part of the job that Erin hated was walking in large arenas/stadiums and having to hear strange men shout things like, “Erin, I love you.” Sometimes, their shouts were probably crude and dirty. After the peephole video, she is even more uncomfortable having huge crowds of strange men ogling her.
If Erin got a job working for E (for example), she wouldn’t have this problem.

She might as well stick with what got her famous. Once the new season of dancing with the d listers starts, she’ll be an after thought just like every other tool to appear on that show.

You guys are a bunch of pigs. I can see that you are all intimidated by an attractive woman with a brain. Nice comment that she “is being fed lines by a producer.” I bet you would never say that about a male sports commentator.

Some of y’all are predicting that Erin’s next career move will be a bust. But does she really have job security at ESPN? When her looks start to fade, do y’all think ESPN would keep her forever or would they replace her with the next Jill Arrington?

A degree in telecommunications does not make you a sports authority…..She is nothing more than eye candy with no sports knowledge. I am sick and tired of networks that think we need a female on the sidelines to ask the most stupid and mundane questions during and after the game. I would much rather hear from someone who has dedicated their life to the sport and has a knowledge of the game that stretched from their childhood on. I want to hear from someone who has “actually” played the game as a child and knows what they are talking about…..enough of this politically correct BS.

I love how people use stereotypes and call it “reason”. She’s eye candy, sure. But she’s not stupid. She knows football better than most out there who go on TV with mics and ask about it. That’s right… most of the MALE sportscasters aren’t football geniuses either. So you want to see former players? Great, but not a lot of those guys are very good with a microphone in front of them, and hitting cues while trying to interview someone is harder than you think. On the other hand, as a guy who’s actually been to postgame interview with multiple crews covering multiple sports, let me tell you… an attractive woman DOES get a certain amount of attention. Once we had Evander Holyfield, while he was champ, WAITING QUIETLY to talk to our gorgeous female reporter while she finished another interview… with all dudes, you don’t get that.

Sorry, naysayers, but Big Al is right. If it weren’t for the publicity (?) from the invasion of privacy incident, she wouldn’t even have been on the Dancing With The Stars producer’s radar.

By the way, aren’t they using the term ’stars’ a bit too liberally?!

Anyone who writes or thinks that attractive women on the sidelines during football games does not enhance male viewership is more stupid than most of the sports-stupid female commentators roaming the sidelines (Erin being one of them). Sex sells no matter the venue. Always has. Always will. You must give Erin credit for one thing. She worked hard to get better with interviews and her knowledge of the game. Still, people “listened” to her to see what she was or was not wearing and especially “listened” when the camera had a side or back view of her. And I am sure everyone tuned in to “Dancing” to see Erin dance as well. I hope ESPN hires the sexiest, best-built woman possible to replace Erin. I can’t wait to tune in to see what she looks like…

You guys are idiots. Anyone here think that Erin has ever played a game of football before? Anyone think she has ever put on pads and taken a hit? Anyone think she collected football cards as a kid and memorized stats. NO SHE DIDNT. She is taking up the space of someone more qualified to ask questions on a sport in which she has never played. She didnt play football as a kid…she didnt play football in high school…she didnt play it in college….In fact she only got into sports in college when she got her degree in telecommunications. Give the job to some who deserves it…someone who actually loves the game…she is in it for the career boost and could care less about the sport.

She is getting out because she is getting older–still has “it,” and desires the power and financial gain of celebrity without the aura of the “outsider.” To me, she never came across as particularly knowledgeable in football and, was average at best as an interviewer/sideline person. So if she has any leverage in the field of entertainment–best of luck to her…and lucky she is.

Wow. Shocking to see so many obnoxious pigs on this board. She was one of the first women to have a prominent role in sportscasting and some of you want to simply reduce her to an incident that she had no control over. I can almost guarantee none of you have the sports knowledge or the resume she does. I hope none of you have daughters, because if you do, you just seriously devalued them as people.

I think she would be the perfect Master of Ceremonies for “Cheaters”–you know that low-budget show that tracks down lowlifes cheating on their better halfs. –you know—snooping, sneaky night vision cameras, confrontations, etc.

…right down her alley.
