‘Walking Dead’ on AMC started taping this week in Atlanta

AMC started production this week of its upcoming series “Walking Dead” in Atlanta. They sent me a photo from the set, taken from David Tattersall, of “The Walkers” — the series’ titular flesh-eating creatures.
From the publicists:
This drama, set for this fall, is based on the Robert Kirkman comic The Walking Dead. The six-episode first season — written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk) – follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.
This is far different from what the network has aired so far: the snazzy 60s drama “Mad Men” and the edgy character series “Breaking Bad.”

I heard Robert Kirkman talking about this project last week during the “Geek Time” show on Sirius/XM Howard 101. I’ve always had exactly zero interest in zombie stuff, but am actually very intrigued – esp. now that I see it’s being filmed here in Atlanta. Any news where/when?

Filming began 6/2 and will continue through September just south of Centennial Olympic Park in the Fairlie and Poplar District.

Some of us haven’t forgiven AMC for cancelling “Remember WENN”, and now this? Just what pop culture 2010 needed: Zombies. Do they sparkle?

This could be great. Walking Dead is pretty good as zombie stories go (even if it pretty quickly slides into the HUMANS ARE THE REAL MONSTERS!!!!! cliche).

It’s nice that they shot it here, given that the first story arc is actually set here.

Wow, this series is going to be great! I wonder if they’ll need the casting of zombie extras…?

I just went by Grant Park this afternoon and saw them shooting there. It was right at the corner of Berne and Park Ave.

It it’s anywhere close to breaking bad in overall story line and production quality, then it will be a really good show.

Hey Daniel, you might want to pick up the book before commenting. It’s not just another zombie film, it focuses on the living and how some of them become bigger monsters than the actual ones.

Wow, Daniel. You know NOTHING about The Walking Dead. It’s the best zombie fiction there is. Better than Romero’s films, even.
