Alasia Ballard loved her time on ‘America’s Next Top Model’

Alasia Ballard, a senior at Wheeler High School in Marietta, lit up the TV screen during this season’s “America’s Next Top Model,” finishing sixth after entering the competition with zero modeling experience.

As the youngest contestant, she often acted that way, too. She got into frequent arguments with other housemates, including Dacula’s Anslee Payne-Franklin. A couple of times, she was shown running late for challenges, annoying the other women. She was wildly inconsistent, finishing in the bottom two three times, yet winning two challenges.

But she was always entertaining, bringing a personality that ranged from prickly to bubbly to goofy in a heartbeat.

“I don’t have any regrets,” said Alasia in a phone interview Thursday afternoon, a day after the episode in which Tyra Banks informed her she was going home. “I had never experienced anything like that. I thought I’d been through stuff in high school but these people were so cutthroat!”

One time, she was walking by the room where they get to talk to a camera outside the earshot of other women. But she overheard Raina Hein bitching about the other women and began eavesdropping. She called her out: “She had sworn up and down to us that she wasn’t talking about anybody. When I walked up, I didn’t know she was there. I heard talking about people. I proved she was not telling the truth.”

And that’s one thing Alasia is: straight. “I’m just honest,” she said. “It’s easier than lying. That’s stressful!”

Although she didn’t always come across in the most flattering manner, Alasia had no complaints about the editing. “I do believe I was portrayed fairly,” she said.

She acknowledged that some of the women treated her like a baby. “They knew my age,” she said. “They would disrespect me because I was younger than them.”

Alasia said Anslee got on her nerves at times because “she acted like she knew more than everybody else. Maybe she felt she had to prove something to people.” But Alasia blamed it at least partly on the stressful environment.

With the show behind her, Alasia is ready to get into acting and modeling “full force” as soon as she graduates this spring.

“I learned so much” on the show, she said. She tried to take the judges’ critiques but found it difficult at times “trying to learn to apply what they’re saying. How to use my face, how to use my body and put emotion into it. It’s weird. I felt going home at that time was the right thing to do. I accomplished what I needed to accomplish. I feel like a winner.”

Among the current top 5, she is rooting or Angelea and Alex. But she said Krista (who didn’t particularly like Alasia) has a shot to win as well.

I thought Alasia took the very best photos of all. She will become more mature, I know, and that will help her the most. So much potential. She needs to be careful who she listens to and she needs to find someone she can truly trust to help her make decisions. A beautiful young lady with a bright future!

Alasia was my FAVORITE…I was sad when she left but I know she’ll do VERY WELL in the Modeling Industry. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR ‘GRADUATION’ & ‘MODELING CAREER’ :)

Did not like this girl at all. Unattractive inside and outside. Some of the expressions she pulled were hideous. Glad she’s gone. This is actually not a very good “Model” season. And they’ve NEVER produced a “Top Model” – you see very little of these gals when their show series is over.

She called Marietta, GA “the hood”. It’s not.

I thought she started out okay, but her last 3 photos were just terrible. She needs to spend some time figuring out how to show something more than her face in a picture. There HAS to be a connection to your spirit/soul/emotion. There are millions of pretty girls out there and you have to be more than a pretty girl to make it in this industry.

She reminds me so much of one previous top model, Bre. Christa has the most beautiful black skin I have ever seen in my life. It is uncanny how she looks like Naomi Sims. WOW!!!!!!!!!

Although Alasia wasn’t the most experienced, I think she was the prettiest with the smoothest black complexion. Agencies would be foolish not to sign her on and mold her into a professional in the field. In the meantime, she should polish her etiquette skills…You’re still a winner

Alasia was fun to watch. Clearly not ready to win it all but she has potential. Maturation will come with time. Hopefully, an agency will give her a shot.

I thought she represented our state and the city of Marietta poorly. I don’t care how young she is, she acted like trash. I for one am glad she is gone.

@ Suie: SOME parts of Marietta ARE the ‘hood! Don’t act!

@ Nana: Who said Alasia was “representing” Marietta?! She was representing Alasia.

@ boo hoo: Clearly, you don’t know what you’re talking about! Some of ANTM contestants have gone on to be quite sucessful. You probably just don’t see them in the cave you live in. Some them are: Adrienne Curry, Eva Pigford, Yoanna House, Lisa D’Amato & Tocarra Jones

I actually liked her, until she started acting all ghetto with the “you disrespect me…yadda yadda yadda..” crap. She’s beautiful but feels way too entitled to respect, for some reason… and thinks that being honest is good – for HER – but when anyone else does it, it’s “disrespectful”. I was glad to see her go. She could be a great model, but she really needs to grow up.

Hey Alasia, stay true to yourself, people are always gonna have something negative to say. I enjoyed watching you, You did the best you could with what you had to work with. You’re 18 years old still in high school. You have a lifetime of experiences to learn. Plus these type shows thrives on drama, without it people won’t watch. I’m sure you figured that out after a while. Keep learning and don’t lose sight of who you are and what you want from life. Use modeling as a stepping stone to the greater things that life has to offer you.

Ms. Alasia, Listen to your Aunt Joy, listen to all the critic but just don’t take it personal, and let the negative response go over your head. I was pulling for you because I have a lot of relatives in Marietta. You are a beautiful young lady, you cracked me up in the beginning when you took off that ugly(sorry)wig and had all that beautiful hair. I thought you were much older with that wig on, Smile…

Listen your pictures were beautiful so just try and match your attitude and personallity with the beauty and you will go a long ways.

Congratulation on being in the top 6 and Congratulation on your high school graduation. Am sad that you are gone from the show but am glad that you will be home to participate in your class graduation. Much Success to you pretty young lady. A lesson well learn. You did good.

I think Alasia was a scummy, slimey, fungus infested dog turd, piece of fly crap. She was spoiled and inmature and she thought everything was about her. Tyra should have kicked her off just for being late because she was too busy looking at herself in the mirror. She doesn’t even know how to model, she got lucky when her photos came out good.I’m glad she’s gone. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!!

Alasia was one of the best for this season, I dont think Nigel and Jay particularly like her from the first onsets and are often the ones why the models dont produce great shots…They often bring alot of negativity to the set, obviously Alasia was one of Tyra favourite. Alasia has a great body and pretty face…with proper coaching she will learn…These reality show strive on drama, its the reason most sit at home clued to watch each week..So why hate…I been around fashion designers and models most of my life, and trust me its the most disgusting thing to be in a room full of skinny models, self loathing, bitching and hating each other….most times they are no saints…

Too bad Raina does not have an amazing body to go with that face, she takes pretty picture, but is plain in person, she can not walk properly, obviously Raina fans not listening to the comments of the designers who she had met on her go see….they all find her boring in person….they are a lot of pretty faces out there trying to make it big, am afraid she lacks presence.

I thought the judges should have done more to shut her up. Her youth and lack of tact almost ruined the show for me. The screaming, loud, bad-language behavior did not belong on a show such as this. I hope the judges do more to screen contestants in the future. She ruined several weeks of filming for several of the other girls. Good riddance!!

I have watched ANTM since it’s creaton and I have always had issue with how they judge and who they send home each week, but I continue to watch. Alasia was only 18, yes; she was still in high school, yes; and everyone kne this, yes. So riddle me this, why did each and everyone of those “adult” women guide her into an arguement? Ratings, that’s why. Alasia was georgeous, she needed to grow up and that show a=was not the place or the time for her to do so. I have read each post and I am concerned about those who posted such nasty hateful words. Are you folks in theraphy? Such low self esteem, and hate for yourself is the only reason you would write such hateful words. No one can deny that Alasia was a beautiful girl, immature, for sure, she was “18″. Tell me how your eighteen year olds behave and I will show you a mirror image of Alasia. Get off her back, no let me rephrase that, get off her wagon, she is about to be “money” and you haters will have something else to add to your theraphy session. Good luck all of you and hopefully God will bless you no matter how much you hate yoursewlf and the anger you have for yourselves.

Oh Yeah, by the way have you heard that when you point a finger you have three fingers and a thumb pointing back at yourself? To call someone ugly only means that understand what the word implies and that you youself are ugly. Wow, hope your theraphy is helping…Oh and to IV, when was the last time you had one. Trash is what you must be familiar with since that is what came to your mind. Trash is what trash does…Sure you got that one figured out.

Alasia I know you’re not fake. You laugh, you cry and you get angry. The other girls are just pretending to be sweet. And i respect you. I feel for you. They’re always talking about proper upbringing and being classy but they don’t walk the talk. Yes, you’re loud but at least you’re not the silent backstabbing type. I totally respect you! =)

Alasia is a typical 18 year old with an attitude. So what? She is just feeling her way like we all did, unless we were attached to someone’s apron strings. Alasia is bee- u- ti- full, both inside and out. Alasia is funny, bubbly, truthful and full of life. All haters need to channel that energy in a different direction.
