‘Glee’ sings way near the top of Atlanta ratings; Rihanna’s ‘Rude Boy’ tops Atlanta radio again

“American Idol,” for a second week in a row, beat “Dancing With the Stars” after losing out for two weeks. This time, the performance shows were separated by just 37,000 viewers, 20.64 mil to 20.56 mil.

The “Idol” results show for the first time this year did better than the performance show, perhaps thanks to Adam Lambert, who sang that night.

Locally, “Idol” did better than a week earlier and finished in the top two slots.

The new “Glee” episode last week might have helped, too. It held about 60 percent of the “Idol” crowd and came in fifth for the week, just behind “Two and a Half Men.” Among 18-49 year olds, it was third behind the two “Idol’ shows. In Atlanta, it came in fourth.

- The part one finale of Lifetime’s “Project Runway,” minus Anthony Williams, dipped a bit but was in its usual 3 million range April 15.

- BET’s “Tiny & Toya,” shot in Atlanta, opened at 1.6 million April 13, which is comparable to what the show did last year.

- The same day TBS announced Conan O’Brien joining the network, “Lopez Tonight” drew a larger-than-normal 1.4 million viewers April 12.

- FX’s “Justified,” after alarming dropoffs its first three episodes, has appeared to stabilize at about 2.4 million viewers in its fifth outing April 13. And the flagging “Damages” drew just 760,000 viewers April 12.

-Discovery’s “Life” series didn’t quite blow away the audiences the way its previous “Earth” project but still closed at a respectable 3.8 million viewers April 17.

-The return of that network’s “Deadliest Catch,” which lost its lead character Phil Harris a few months ago, drew an extra large 4.6 million viewers, only behind WWE wrestling at 5 million among cable programs.

-The Academy of Country Music Awards lassoed 13 million viewers but is one of the few awards shows in recent times to fall year over year. Last year, it drew almost 15 million viewers. (The show did not even make the top 20 in Atlanta.)

-What is likely the series finale, “Melrose Place” ended with a tepid 1.1 million viewers April 13. Even on the CW, that’s not much.

- Atlanta-shot “Vampire Diaries” had the top show on the CW with 3.2 million viewers, ahead of “America’s Next Top Model” (which still has two Atlanta contestants left) at 2.8 million. The season finale of “Life Unexpected” (which is on the bubble to come back) drew 1.8 million viewers April 12.

-The series finale of ABC’s “Ugly Betty” April 14 drew 5.4 million viewers, the most this season.

-TruTV’s new show “Southern Fried Stings” April 12 brought in a relatively respectable 1.8 million viewers.

-VH1’s new show “Tough Love Couples” opened at a lukewarm 866,000 viewers that same night.

-NBC’s nostalgic look at SNL in the ’90s April 15 drew a passable 6.8 million viewers.

-CBS’s “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” is holding up great, with another 12.3  million viewers on Tax Day. And Atlanta’s Parvati Shallow has not been voted off.
