‘Life,’ ‘American Pickers,’ ‘South Park’ have good weeks in TV ratings; Ke$ha tops in Atlanta radio

life discovery

“American Idol” outdistanced the competition in Atlanta, with last Tuesday’s top 12 show doubling anything else on the air – except the results show.

“Idol” drew 749,000 viewers Tuesday and 610,000 Wednesday in Atlanta (and 23 million and 20.5 million respectively nationally.) Fox’s “House” came in third with 396,000 locally.

Daylight savings time often depresses viewership a bit, especially during 8 p.m. “NCIS,” for instance, usually draws 20 million and brought in only 18 million last week.

“Life,” the ultimate nature miniseries, on Discovery opened with a strong 6 million viewers Sunday night.

And History Channel has another huge hit on its hands with “American Pickers,” which focuses on professional scavengers. The first-season finale drew a whopping 5 million viewers (not far behind the 5.8 million “Pawn Stars” drew a week earlier.). TLC’s new series “Addicted” (which is a lot like A&E’s “Intervention”) debuted last Wednesday at a passable 1.2 million.

“America’s Next Top Model” on the CW, which features two Atlantans, is still pulling in passable numbers with 3.7 million viewers March 17 but it’s down about 10 to 15 percent from a year ago.

SyFy’s “Destination Truth” started its fourth season with a series high 2.2 million. MTV’s “Real Word: DC” ended its season with a relatively benign 1 million viewers. Comedy Central’s “South Park” had its biggest debut in several years thanks to some advance buzz about its sex addiction jokes and came in at 3.7 million viewers. “Ugly Americans” afterwards held 60% of that audience with 2.1 milllion viewers.

ABC’s “Scrubs” ended its ninth season with a barely noticeable 3.4 million viewers last Wednesday.

AMC’s “Breaking Bad” had its strongest numbers ever in its third-season debut, opening at 1.95 million.

FX’s “Justified” gave the network its biggest opening since “The Shield” in 2002 with 4.2 million viewers last Monday

Jessica Simpson’s “Price of Beauty” opened soft with just 1 million viewers on VH1 Monday but it was still the most popular show on the network last week.

A&E’s “Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels’” started its season Sunday at an okay 1.7 million and “Kirstie Alley’s Big Life” held most of the viewers with 1.4 million viewers afterwards.
