Conan O’Brien can’t be on TV but will be at the Fox Theatre June 14

Conan O’Brien, as part of his exit agreement with NBC, can’t be on TV for the next few months. But he’s found a way to stay in the spotlight and keep his golden parachute, too: a live tour.

He will be doing a theater show across North America, hitting 30 cities starting April 12 and ending at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta June 14. Andy Richter and his old house band will join him.

“It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house,” O’Brien said in a statement.

O’Brien was booted from “The Tonight Show” in January, replaced by his predecessor Jay Leno. Leno’s poor ratings on his 10 p.m. show had the local affiliates on the verge of rebellion. O’Brien’s ratings were way down from what Leno was doing.

NBC’s solution? Management offered to give O’Brien a 12:05 a.m. spot and put Leno back at 11:35 p.m., but O’Brien declined.

During this whole brouhaha, though, Conan came out as the good guy, the victim.

Currently, he is seeking a new home. Fox is a likely candidate but he could also go to cable.

You can buy tickets at www.ticketmaster.com. Regular prices range from $54.55 to $98.75, with fees. A meet-and-greet package will cost a whopping $697.

Some fans are planning something for Conan at the event. A planning site has been placed at Facebook here if you’d like to join in on the fun.

I hope Conan doesn’t get shot or stabbed by Steve Harvey Supporters while in the Downtown ATL.

Conan = lightweight

What a lightweight. Is this guy a good performer or some quirky cartoon character? It amazes me there isn’t anyone who can do funny thoughtful late night television. Letterman is an old gross horn dog doing early 80’s irony and liberal politico. Jimmy Kimmel needs to work sports radio for Icky Dickey and or Salty Salzman. Leno looks like a My Rushmore next to these hacks. Hey Conan go back to writing. For most of us in “flyover” country we don’t get you.

Conan can get real goofy at times but he is funnier than the lame jokes Leno uses.

Conan is a small market performer. He never should have been given the Tonight Show because he is a niche comedian that appeals to just a small portion of society. This was proven by his poor ratings and his eventually being fired. His humor is immature and crass and his interview skills are unrefined and awkward. I’m sure that he appeals to some people because we are not all the same, but not to the majority of us who find him vulgar. If there are people want to shell out that much money to watch his shtick on stage then all I can say to them is “Enjoy!”

Jay was the good guy, too. NBC screwed them both over and everyone wants to say to Jay “just shut up and retire!” Why retire when he was at the top of his game and still climbing?

Did anyone else have issues with Ticketmaster timing out after you reserved tickets and gave your card info? It happened to me and customer service said it had been a recurring problem. I went from really good tickets Orchestra level to balking paying for loge seatsat loge seats?

I bought tickets immediately. This is going to be awesome.

As a side note, I think the show to go to is quite clearly the Bonnaro show in Tennessee. Conan is headlining the comedy stage and is also the MC for the main music stage. That place is going to be absolutely insane.

Connan was never funny to me. I never got his humor. I like leno because he can tell some good off color jokes and still keep it clean. What I used to do and have started back to doing is watching the news then leno’s monologue and if he doesn’t have anyone good on, then I go to cable. What Conan and his supporters do not say is how far the rating dropped with him.

I am nothing but confused towards people who find Leno funny. In fact, I doubt many do. I think conservatives just watch him because he’s conservative. Not that there’s anything WRONG with that, but it seems like there ought to be someone funnier with his views you could latch onto.

If you think nobody does good, funny late night television… you obviously haven’t seen Craig Ferguson. I like Conan (liked him better when he was edgier and hope he lands somewhere like Comedy Central where he can bring Edgy back), but for late night TV, Craig Ferguson combines funny, thoughtful, smart, and devil-may-care. Give him a listen.

You have to grade Leno and Conan on a curve. Conan is funny but he’s also humble and can make fun of himself. Leno, on the other hand, has to explain his jokes, gets mad if made fun of and I’ve seen him belittle his guests because he makes more money! Leno should just retire, go play with his cars and rub his hands through his money. Now, if you stay up late enough, after Letterman comes the best late night host…. Craig Ferguson !!! This guy is witty, intelligent and a pleasure to watch. Try it.

Get over it!!

Greg from Marietta summed it up very well with his comments about Conan . The first time I saw Conan at the start of his t.v. career , I thought that he would never make it on t.v. and was silly and had very little talent. I was so glad that he was on late night after I went to bed . I am kidding of course because I would Not have watched him anyway . I have been a fan of the Tonight Show since it started and have admired the hosts through the years especialy Johnny . I could not believe that they were replacing Jay with such a coarse and unfunny person such as Conan . I believe the executives that pulled Jay off the show at the top of his game and replacing him with Conan should be replaced . Thank goodness Jay is back!

I know funny and Conan IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE funny. I can’t even stand to look at the guy……talk about tore up from the floor up!!!! Oh…BTW…just because I don’t like Conan, I’m not lame either. Conan is simply JUST NOT FUNNY….other than he looks funny if that is what you mean by him being funny, then I agree!!!

Jay was a very funny standup once upon a time, but became more and more of a bland mouthpiece over the years. Conan’s funny and smart. He wrote some of the best episodes of The Simpsons (Monorail!), created an incredibly creative and fun late night show, and then got screwed over when he got to the Tonight Show. I’m kind of glad he’s out of it, because now he can create something all his own again. I got my tickets yesterday and can’t wait to see his show.

TeamCoco

What exactly is funny about Jay Leno? His monologue is a mixture of tame/lame “jokes” on random current events. His skits are basically his attempt to find stupid people and record them. Jaywalking…”Hey, look…people on the street are stupid!” Jaywalk all-stars, “Look, we brought the stupid people to the studio so we can show you they’re stupid!” Headlines…”Hey, we’re lazy. America, send us funny things so we can read them to you.”

When NBC came to Jay and told them they wanted to give Conan the tonight show, why didn’t he just throw his weight around right then and told them no? Tell NBC he’ll quit right there if they force him out? We all know that Jay has it in him to be a raging prick and screw people over so why not nip it in the bud instead of doing that farce of a 10pm show.

How would Jay do anyway if Johnny said, “Yeah, he can have the tonight show…I just want to do an hour long show before the Tonight Show.”

Ohh well, i’ll never watch that Denim-clad jerk on the Tonight Show ever again. Enjoy him old people, assuming you can stay up that late.

See y’all at the Fox.

There is a good chance if you are over 50 you just are not going to get into Conan. That’s cool, but don’t come on here and bash people who do.
Besides, if you are over 50 you are probably just mad that your generation isn’t calling the shots any more. Enjoy your “active adult” communities and your 10:00 bedtime.

Conan has some funny stuff, but is better as a writer. Leno is by far better on the Tonight Show and the ratings prove that. I don’t hate Conan- he is good at what he does. I just like Leno better. Letterman is good when his personal views don’t get in the way- which it usually does.

I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing O’Brien’s face again, and I would be a happy person. If Howdy Doody and Bozo the Clown had a love child, it would be funner than O’Brien. No one could ever have come close to replacing Johnny Carson, but Jay is a good enough sub. O’Brien would be better suited putting on a yellow and orange outfit and serving burgers.
