Conan O’Brien, as part of his exit agreement with NBC, can’t be on TV for the next few months. But he’s found a way to stay in the spotlight and keep his golden parachute, too: a live tour.
He will be doing a theater show across North America, hitting 30 cities starting April 12 and ending at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta June 14. Andy Richter and his old house band will join him.
“It was either a massive 30-city tour or start helping out around the house,” O’Brien said in a statement.
O’Brien was booted from “The Tonight Show” in January, replaced by his predecessor Jay Leno. Leno’s poor ratings on his 10 p.m. show had the local affiliates on the verge of rebellion. O’Brien’s ratings were way down from what Leno was doing.
NBC’s solution? Management offered to give O’Brien a 12:05 a.m. spot and put Leno back at 11:35 p.m., but O’Brien declined.
During this whole brouhaha, though, Conan came out as the good guy, the victim.
Currently, he is seeking a new home. Fox is a likely candidate but he could also go to cable.
You can buy tickets at www.ticketmaster.com. Regular prices range from $54.55 to $98.75, with fees. A meet-and-greet package will cost a whopping $697.
Some fans are planning something for Conan at the event. A planning site has been placed at Facebook here if you’d like to join in on the fun.

Conan is simply JUST NOT FUNNY….other than he looks funny if that is what you mean by him being funny, then I agree!!!

Jay was a very funny standup once upon a time, but became more and more of a bland mouthpiece over the years. Conan’s funny and smart. He wrote some of the best episodes of The Simpsons (Monorail!), created an incredibly creative and fun late night show, and then got screwed over when he got to the Tonight Show. I’m kind of glad he’s out of it, because now he can create something all his own again. I got my tickets yesterday and can’t wait to see his show.

What exactly is funny about Jay Leno? His monologue is a mixture of tame/lame “jokes” on random current events. His skits are basically his attempt to find stupid people and record them. Jaywalking…”Hey, look…people on the street are stupid!” Jaywalk all-stars, “Look, we brought the stupid people to the studio so we can show you they’re stupid!” Headlines…”Hey, we’re lazy. America, send us funny things so we can read them to you.”
When NBC came to Jay and told them they wanted to give Conan the tonight show, why didn’t he just throw his weight around right then and told them no? Tell NBC he’ll quit right there if they force him out? We all know that Jay has it in him to be a raging prick and screw people over so why not nip it in the bud instead of doing that farce of a 10pm show.
How would Jay do anyway if Johnny said, “Yeah, he can have the tonight show…I just want to do an hour long show before the Tonight Show.”
Ohh well, i’ll never watch that Denim-clad jerk on the Tonight Show ever again. Enjoy him old people, assuming you can stay up that late.
See y’all at the Fox.

There is a good chance if you are over 50 you just are not going to get into Conan. That’s cool, but don’t come on here and bash people who do.
Besides, if you are over 50 you are probably just mad that your generation isn’t calling the shots any more. Enjoy your “active adult” communities and your 10:00 bedtime.

Conan is funny but Jay Leno, David Letterman and Craig Ferguson are funnier.

Conan has some funny stuff, but is better as a writer. Leno is by far better on the Tonight Show and the ratings prove that. I don’t hate Conan- he is good at what he does. I just like Leno better. Letterman is good when his personal views don’t get in the way- which it usually does.

I never watched him when he was on t.v. (never watched the tonight show after Johnny Carson), and I wouldn’t walk across the street to see him. What a doofus.

I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing O’Brien’s face again, and I would be a happy person. If Howdy Doody and Bozo the Clown had a love child, it would be funner than O’Brien. No one could ever have come close to replacing Johnny Carson, but Jay is a good enough sub. O’Brien would be better suited putting on a yellow and orange outfit and serving burgers.
