No surprise: Fox’s ‘Past Life,’ shot mostly in Atlanta, put to death after three episodes

pastlife_04-kelli_0412_djrV1

This is no surprise: Fox has officially axed drama “Past Life” after three dismally-rated episodes. The show was down to a relatively microscopic 3.5 million viewers last night.

It was up against the Olympics, for sure, but this show was DOA after losing two-thirds of the “Idol” audience Feb. 9 (8.3 million) and dropping to 5.3 million on Feb. 11.

Fox had shot the pilot in Baltimore and six more episodes in Atlanta. The three remaining episodes will likely be buried sometime this summer, probably on a Friday night. Former Cumming resident and lead actress Kelli Giddish (top left) has to be especially disappointed since she enjoyed coming back home.

The premise: solving crimes related to murders of people in past lives who now embody current ones. It’s mildly intriguing but a bit confusing. The “Medium” meets “Cold Case” didn’t quite meld.

By giving it the post “Idol” slot and plenty of advance promotion, “Past Life” was certainly give a shot. But reviews were dismal and viewers reacted the same way: yuck.

Hey, in terms of scripted TV< we still have Tyler Perry, “Drop Dead Diva” and “Vampire Diaries”!

I tried to watch the pilot episode. It was poorly acted, and poorly written.

It’s a shame, really, that one of the few shows to be filmed in Atlanta is something as asinine as this.

It’s really a question more than a comment. What song played at the end of past life episode 3, it was so nice, some of the lyrics were, “I’ts how it is” can anyone help me find the title and artist, Thank-you Mary Canneva.

I liked the show. Interesting. Also, would like to know the title and singer on the song they played in the last scene of tonight’s (2/29/10) episode. It was very nice.

I just found out the answer to my question. The song title is “That’s How It Is” and the singer is Paul Freeman.

I really like the premise of the show and am disappointed that it was cancelled so soon. And yes, the writing could have been better but the actors were good and the plots were interesting and different than the normal status quo of TV. It’s a shame that Fox won’t stand behind a show that was approaching a controversial topic (reincarnation) and won’t wait for it gain some momentum.

So typical of US TV Networks, driven by the great god of statistics and numbers, too Lilly Livered to give a show a change. It was up against the Olympics and the other networks had already switched to repeats because they knew NBC would pull in the viewers. Some British Shows have run for 10 or more seasons, all because the TV companies give the first season a chance to get accepted by viewers. US Networks are a joke for managerial skills!!

It’s a shame this show got cancelled. It’s a good show but really didn’t have a fighting chance since it was put up against well-established and already highly successful shows like CSI and the Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice line up. FOX really needs to keep Past Life and find another timeslot for it!

Fox sucks. This was a decent show with an interesting premise. Far more intersting that all the reality bull shoved down our throats. But as is typical with Fox, it was cancelled and it never had a chance. Pure Luck, Drive, Tru Calling – I can go on and on – this show nevere stood a chance
