Fox News, iCarly, ‘Jersey Shore’ have big weeks in TV ratings; Robin Thicke big on Atlanta R&B radio

I’ve already reported the jaw-dropping ratings for the NFC/AFC Championship games from Sunday. Here’s info about other shows for the week of January 18.

- SyFy aired the debut of its “Battlestar Galactica” prequel last Friday but the two-hour premiere had already been available on DVD and online for months. The result: just 1.6 million tuned in. That’s not terribly good for SyFy on a Friday night. The key test will be how it does this Friday.

-”Jersey Shore” on MTV finished with a series high 4.8 million last Thursday triple its original numbers a few weeks back.

- Fox’s “American Idol” actually pulled in better ratings in its second week than it did a year ago, averaging about 26.3 million viewers over the two nights.

- ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” had its worst original showing that I can recall with fewer than 13 million viewers tuning in last Thursday. Locally, it drew 355,000 viewers.

- Fox News beat USA Network last week during primetime, a rare victory for the news channel over the entertainment network. All the Haiti and Scott Brown news helped. It averaged 3.21 million viewers vs. 3.19 million on USA. It averaged 6.2 million last Tuesday night when Brown beat Martha Coakley for the Massachusetts Senate seat and finished in the top 20 locally as well. “Hannity” had its highest numbers in its history with 6.8 million viewers.

-Oxygen pulled in a series high 2.1 million viewers for “Bad Girls Club” January 19.

-The Hope for Haiti telethon last Friday averaged 24.1 million on 33 networks Friday. That’s comparable to the Katrina telethon in 2006 (22.2 million) but far short of the 9/11 telethon (59.3 million).

-Nickelodeon’s iCarly is the hottest tween phenomenon, drawing 11.2 million viewers January 18 (with 335,000 in Atlanta.) Take that, Miley Cyrus!

-ABC’s new legal drama “The Deep End” opened at a so-so 7.1 million last Thursday, along with 209,000 locally.

-A&E’s “The Jacksons: An American Dynasty” didn’t really draw audiences the way the network had hoped, given all the interest in Michael Jackson. The finale January 17 only drew 983,000 people. (In comparision, A&E’s “Hoarders” regularly breaks 2.2 million viewers.) Atlanta resident Jodi Gomes produced it. My guess is A&E probably won’t renew the show.

-The new and kind of boring MTV series “My Life as Liz” opened at a relatively soft 902,000 viewers last week.

It’s odd that yes.com lists the song as sung by Sean Kingston. But yes, it’s Iyaz.
