Former Atlantan ‘America’s Next Top Model’ runner up chasing child support from NFL player
Former Atlantan Nik Pace, who was runner up on “America’s Next Top Model” four years ago, has sued New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards for child support, asking for up to $70,000 a month.
She gave birth to Braylon Jr. in August in Atlanta. The pair are not married. (The story broke in The New York Post today.)
Randy Kessler, an Atlanta attorney who represents the football player, said his client filed in Fulton County to be recognized as Braylon Jr.’s dad in June, two months before the baby’s birth.
But to Edwards’ surprise, 25-year-old, Pace is trying to get the case moved to New York, where she now lives. Pace’s attorney Raoul Felder told me today that Edwards deliberately filed in Georgia because the state has less generous child support laws than New York. He also says she has not lived in Georgia for a long time.
Hogwash on both counts, said Kessler.
“He took affirmative actions to declare himself the father,” Kessler said. “He filed in Georgia because that’s where she lived at the time. He hopes to resolve this amicably.”
Edwards, according Fox Sports, is making $5.45 million this year.
Pace had photos of herself taken while pregnant for Essence magazine, according to her MySpace page. You can see more here.
Pace was not the most fascinating character on “America’s Next Top Model” that fall but she almost won.
“I’m definitely a drama-free sort of person, “ Nik told me in late 2005. “The other people were my personal television. I enjoyed it.”

The North Springs High School grad said she was going to spend the next week in New York knocking on model agencies’ doors. “I have to take advantage of my success as soon as possible, ” she said.
And this site tracks Edwards’ progress week to week with the Jets. Edwards, his attorney said, lives in Michigan and Cleveland. (He was with the Cleveland Browns last year.). He recently was charged with misdemeanor assault for punching a man outside a Cleveland club, Associated Press reported in October. He pled not guilty in November.
Coincidentally, he’ s playing the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday in New Jersey, where the Jets play.

Sounds like she’s been out for money since before the baby got here. He clearly wants to take care of the baby and gave the baby his name. Why even file a lawsuit for child support? Only thirsty females do stuff like that. And exactly what does she need $70,000 a month for?? She’s probably going to lose her case and get less that what he would have given to her had she not filed the lawsuit. I hope he doesn’t let this stop him from being a father to his child. I think it’s pathetic that someone thinks their ‘payday’ is pushing out a child of someone in the public eye. Shows that they don’t have the capability to provide/support themselves. (Not saying that the father should pay his part, but it takes 2 to create a baby. Child support isn’t intended to have you live in the lap of luxury because some celeb’s sperm was the one that fertilized the egg.
It’d be interesting to follow these ‘golden parachute kids and their mothers’ to see where they are down the road. From their ‘entitlement/gold-digger mentality’ to what happens when the money dries up – the record label drops them or their sports contract isn’t renewed…

Anything for a buck. Kids these days get caught in the middle of grown folks “mess”. She needs her rent paid while living in New York. Not all women are seeking the same thing. As we all know Tiger Woods has “romanced” at least a dozen somewhat average to very attractive women. Reportedly NONE of them were pregnant and obviously not after the compensation that they would have received had they been even though they “spilled the beans” of their apparent affairs with the exception of one who tried but failed. It can and does happen with men of means and those without means of support. Innocent children don’t care either way.

How is it “gold digging” for a woman to expect the father of her child to help support that child? He should have made the legal arrangement when “He took affirmative actions to declare himself the father.” The two go hand in hand. These comments smack of women (and child) hating. If he doesn’t want children he should get a vasectomy (as should all men who don’t want to pay child support – there is no such thing as perfect birth control).

@pj, it’s considered gold-digging because nobody needs $70K/month to raise a child. And although it cant be proven, its a good chance she moved to NY just so she can get that high of an amount. The child support laws are DRASTICALLY different between GA and NY. If she stayed in Georgia, she would not get anymore than $7,500 or so, maybe less. WOW at some of the racist comments in here. I guess you fools don’t know that one of the all time greatest white athletes, Larry Bird, knocked up some woman, and then proceeded to ignore the child while she grew up.

The story clearly says that Braylon has been trying to provide for the child, but she refuses and wants more. Also, making voluntarily payments will show that Brady is responsible and help him maintain his all-American image.

If any judge in this nation grants this woman $70,000 per month, to take care of child, they ought to be removed from the bench and lose their law license!
This is unbelievable. First, her attorney states that, “my client has not lived in Georgia for a long time.” He fails to mention that she attended and graduated from Noth Springs High (Sandy Springs).
What expenses does a CHILD have that requires $70k per month? Please, can anyone explain? Now, for the woman who is working two jobs, supporting 3 kids, all she ask for is the basic necessities. That same woman would struggle in court just to receive $600 per month (3 kids). This is a basic case of start high (70K) and end up with the low (35k). Some low, huh?
