Barbara Walters’ most fascinating people: Sarah Palin, Adam Lambert, Tyler Perry et. al.

In this photo released by ABC, former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, left, is photographed with ABC's Barbara Walters, at a New York City hotel, Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. Barbara Walters has made a franchise out of her annual “most fascinating people” special. Often times, her special features people we’ve already seen way too much of this year.

Her picks this year include Adam Lambert of “American Idol” fame, Sarah Palin, Kate Gosselin of “Jon & Kate,” Fox News’ Glenn Beck, Lady Gaga, NFL star Brett Favre, and Atlanta’s own Tyler Perry. She never releases her top most fascinating person in advance but my bet is Taylor Swift.

AP reports that Walters also profiled Michael Jackson’s kids: Paris, Prince Michael and Prince Michael II (known as Blanket).

Which of the following 2009 "in the news" pop culture figures are you most sick of hearing about?

Sarah Palin was on BABAWAWA’s list last year as well. I wonder how many people have made her list two years in a row. Of course last year she pretty much trashed Palin pretty much claiming that she was here today and blink she was gone. Well I geuss that didn’t exactly happen.

Yup, calgarypuck, Sarah’s still around. She had an infamous and truth-challenged woman write a book full of outright lies, omissions, half-truths, and stupid errors for her. Then she supposedly goes on a bus tour to the “Real America” to promote the book, but instead she flies in an expensive private jet to all the cities and rides the bus between the airports and the bookstores. Sarah’s milking this pseudo-populist schtick for all its worth, and her alleged supporters are more than happy to indulge her delusions.

I am not one to typically even respond to something like this, but when I read the list of Barbara Walter’s most fascinating people I realized how surface this culture is really becoming. Really, Kate Gosselin is one of the most fascinating people alive? Jenny Sanford? I’m sure everyone on this list has something interesting about them, but are they really the people that we can’t get our mind around because they are so unique and remarkable. How about some amazing scientists or writers or nobel prize winners — someone who is actually contributing in a FASCINATING way to this world we live in. This list proves that ratings are the ONLY true motivator in these selections.

I’m with Kristen. I don’t usually post. A list dominated by shallow, pop culture types who make no positive contribution toward society. I’m surprised the Real Housewives did not make the list.

I stole this b.c it sums up my thoughts PERFECTLY: “The Right thinks the Left dislikes Palin because she is pretty and a mom and hunts and is feisty and sometimes clever. The truth, those are the ONLY things we like about her. What we don’t like is what she actually SAYS. We don’t like the way she paints herself as (another unoriginal) tell-it-like-it-is populist pol who, when you actually figure out what she says, says nothing at all. America great. God great. Taxes bad. Jobs good. Hockey good. Guns good. Abortion bad. Wow. Radical thinking. What a visionary. It’s not the Left that is hung up on the “package” of Palin, it’s the Right. They are so caught up on the superficial aspects of her that they overlook that she has no original thoughts or vision or ideas. They mistake folksy charm for deep thought. It’s populist pandering at its worst. Every time she talks about “Real America,” I want to vomit. p.s. The argument that the media, like Katie Couric, edited down her interviews to make her look dumb is silly. It was a 30 minute interview. Everything she said was dumb. How long do you think they talked for Couric to be able to edit the interview down with just the dumb parts? And even if they talked for five hours, is 30 minutes of dumb out of five hours acceptable?

Barbara should devote the whole show to ADAM LAMBERT. How can you compare him to sarah palin and kate? ADAM LAMBERT is the facinating person period. Cant get enough of ADAM LAMBERT news. Have you heard his new CD? WOW!! Its out of this world. Best music CD in years.

LOVE ADAM LAMBERT. Hate Sarah Palin. Hope I don’t have to sit through Sarah Palin’s interview to see Adam. Adam is amazingly talented, honest, smart, great person and talent. His performances on tour were AWESOME, his album is AWESOME, he has an unbelievable voice and stage presence (saw him LIVE several times and you have to see it to believe it). He’s sexy and handsome….Love you Adam. Can’t wait for Barbara’s interview but will only be watching because of you!

Wow do we have to listen to Palin push her book or her morales on us again? And Kate – she practically oppressed the man she was with no wonder he left. I do find Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert to be two of the most interesting kids these days. But Lady Gaga was huge last year and thus isn’t new, new. This Adam kid only broke out this year…I want to know more about him. Oprah…why is she leaving her show yes have her on. Taylor Swift sure. But why Bret Favre? Why Tyler Perry? And ewwwwww must we really have Glenn Beck on? Seriously? The guy actually believes if men and women don’t marry the universe will collapse. He also believes President Obama is a racist. Do we really need to give this man another 15 minutes of anything?

Adam is definitely an Adam Bomb – an explosive, amazing singer. I’d love a whole show on him too, but I think Barbara really missed the point: why highlight Michael Jackson’s kids, when she should highlight the King of Pop, even though he left us too soon. Maybe he would have been the first to make the “Most Fascinating” list posthumously. Entertainers like him come around once in a lifetime. We missed him dearly. Given how music is going down the toilet, except for some bright stars like Adam Lambert (what is all this Taylor Swift stuff? She’s a mouse!), there’s no originality. MJ is and always will be the penultimate entertainer!

Diane Sawyer replacing Charles Gibson, Adam Lambert, etc. is why I refuse to watch ABC. Say what you want about double standards when it comes to lesbian kisses and homosexual suggestive dance moves, but I put them all in the same catagory-not intended for me or my family.

And if the Republicans are foolish or stupid enough to nominate her for President in 2012, they will lose. Not qualified by brains or experience to be President. Should go back to Alaska where she can do whatever.

Obama isnt interesting at all..He says exactly what you expect him to say. He’s our President yet he’s still trying to win a popularity contest by being on talk shows, hosting events, saying cool stuff, now he’s given a date to end the war. Thanks Obama let the enemy know. I think he is tarnishing what our presidents have been all about, what this nation was founded on, God. And I think this is just one of the many mistakes he will make along the way. Buckle up people, we’re in for a ride. So my vote would go to Tyler Perry, at least he’s kind of funny.

Sarah Palin, is a blight light amount all those clowns on the list. With all the jerks on the left try taking pot shops at her for no logical or intelligent reason, except envy, and
Jealousy. Those with lesser mined and little personality, are always afraid of a raising star, than there are those who are terrified of powerful women, or women in general.

I’m really hoping that Kate Gosselin is not featured. I’d prefer to hear more of Tyler Perry’s inspirational story of going from being homeless to living his dream. It would be especially interesting to discuss how he’s impacted the economy of Georgia and his impact on Georgia’s film & entertainment industry. That would be especially relevant in this economy.

Top pick could possibly be Susan Boyle. NBC’s Woman of the Year a week or two ago. Top selling artist bowling absolutely everyone including GaGa, Lambert, and Swift so far. She does have a fascinating story — far more so than some of these goofballs.

Just because Barbara chooses these people, it doesn’t mean anything–it’s just a TV show–not a congressional hearing!

As TV watching goes–I am happy to tune in and watch what Adam Lambert has to say. He is ENTERTAINING and a pretty cute guy to boot.

Sara Palin? What a delusional dumbo. I hope she just goes away.

I am happy for Tyler Perry. I have never seen his movies but he seems to be a hard working guy who made it big on his terms. That is rare today.

Lady GaGa must be the smartest woman around. She became a Madonna-Clone and is raking in the cash and fame. Who knew that all anyone had to do was don a blond wig, dress up like Madonna, copy her stage persona and not be taken for an impersonator?

Taylor Swift at only 19 is refreshing but all the attention and awards seem too much, too soon. But it’s a great story and she is a wonderful role-model for young girls.

It’s a shame Barbara couldn’t use the exposure of her annual show to really put forth some worthwhile individuals. How about some of the men and women who are serving this country without fanfare, year in and year out Barbara?
