The Osmond magic didn’t get Marie to the “Dancing With the Stars” trophy season five but her brother Donny redeemed her loss Tuesday night two years later.
It was obviously R&B singer Mya’s to lose after getting 87 to 90 points Monday. But lifelong entertainer Donny kept it close, garnering 85 and on one dance, his first perfect score. If this show were purely about skill, the judges would have crowned Mya. But Donny’s popularity with the voters and impressive showmanship pushed him past the finish line.
The youthful 51 year old was the first contestant over the age of 40 to win the title after nine seasons. And it was all the more impressive considering he was commuting to Las Vegas every week to do a show with his sister.
Kelly Osbourne lagged behind at 76 points and was the first one eliminated at 10:54 p.m. EST.
Kelly showed moxie throughout the competition and wore her heart on her sleeve on and off the stage. She improved week after week. She came across much better than her younger, petulant teen self on the MTV show many years ago.
With two hours to kill for what could take ten minutes, the padding was thicker than a Shrek costume. Here is a quick recap of the first one hour and 54 minutes:
Recaps. Alex Mazo dancing. Recaps. Whitney Houston. Recaps. Jeffrey Ross’s ultra-pale body. Recaps. Adam Corolla attempting humor. Best of dances from each of the three finalists. Tom DeLay. Michael Irvin. Aaron Carter. Muppets. Jerry Springer, Cloris Leachman and Steve Wozniak back again in a mock danceoff with Joanna Krupa. Whitney one more time.

Mya was screwed. There were 3 dancers better than Donny. Mya, Joanna and Natalie. This show is a bad joke and wont be watched again in my household.

This show smells FOUL!!!…It’s all about popularity that Donnie won this competition, Mya
you have been robbed of winning the title. Never go back to that show unless they offer you
millions and millions of dollars to return.

I watched DWTS throughout the whole season, and was completely disappointed – but not at all surprised about the final outcome of Donny winning the trophy.
The facts (and these are just my opinions through my observation,
so dont’ take any of this personal)…are that it seems to me that …his way was paved long before the end of the season.
For starters, he unlike the rest of the contestants, had plenty of continuous media publicity and opportunity from the hosts of
Entertainment Tonite, including his sister,
Maria.
It’s not a bad thing, but it does present unfair advantage if all the dancers “as a whole” don’t get the same equal share of media support and opportunity.
Also- Everyone knows he’s fifty years old…but he knew that long before he signed up, so what’s the deal on that issue.
And like Mya, Aaron, Kelly and all the rest…he’s an entertainer too, with just as much if not more – history and success behind him, his family and his name. And considering he’s still out there performing
age is and should be irrelevant on the matter.
The thing is, it seems to me, my feelings of Donny’s way being paved and that it was turning into a popularity contest, leaning towards Donny…originally started when all the other dancers who were equally as good or better, – were being eliminated.
I mean, past half way into the season…those who did not complain outright – (in the words of exhaustion and probably frustration)
“I’m not having fun anymore”…(so saith our newly crowned
DWTS champion Donny Osmond).
…mainly such as Aaron Carter who God Bless his heart, – was eager to put forth EVERYTHING he had and more into trying to express how bad he wanted to stay on the show with promise to keep trying to improve…while at the same time please the judges week after week, only to just keep getting knocked down for all his efforts, until it was too late to climb back in and go any higher.
(I mean seriously, they just totally insulted him for much of nothing but trying hard, which they HAVE to know can sway public opinion on him). We all know that anyone could see, whether you liked him or not…he was really trying very hard.
Anyway, those factors, plus Derek and his partner’s J. Kruppa EXTREMELY early unplanned exit/departure…really made me stop and go, hmmmmm….
Okay. What the…?
I figured the last two standing would be J. Kruppa and Derek, and Mya and Demetri, based on how good and consistent they’ve both been throught the season.
So…when that happened. I immediately and specifically told my mom who also watches the show…”their making way for Donny…getting rid of the good.”
I mean, if you have a choice…to me, it made sence to eliminate the better competition early on, and since Derek(not J. Kruppa)
has been very popular and has supporters snd is apparently well liked based on past winnings and frequent media attention… with them gone, that would leave Donny battling Mya and possibly Kelly for the win,
based on her performance improvements and her and her dad Ozzy’s
overall fan base, and media connection.
Mya and Kelly both have their own fan base of supporters, but are relatively no where near as much of a threat as Derek and his partner
would be. Derek’s already got the trophy to prove it.
So, with Derek an partner J. Kruppa gone…it was clear to see Donny did/not might actually have a chance…if he could only just for the sake of not being bored and sick and also tired, for the sake of Kim’s efforts too… “start having fun again.”
But to me, the actual nail that drove it home…was
(again only my opinion, not necessarily yours)…was that darn
Free style dance.
You know, the one that let’s you kind of do your own thing and give it all you got to come out on top? Yeah…that’s the one.
Well, if you recall the last rehearsal, when Demetri and Mya were discussing the style they were going to do,- Demetri said he wanted to do Broadway (for whatever stupid reason of all the styles of dancing he and Mya could do and have done to get to that point)
…and you saw and heard her hesitate and say she would rather do something like a Vegas styled number instead…if they were going to go that route.
Anyway, the fact that she hesitated and opted for another choice rather than what he suggested, should have raised a flag to Demetri, that it wasn’t what she really wanted to do.
But as you saw, he insisted that Broadway would be the better choice,
- and Mya finally agreed. Probably because she trusted the fact that he as the professional/teacher in their situation, wouldn’t make a bad choice this late in the competition. And based on the fact that their performances he choreographed throughtout the competition and her ability to learn what he had to teach,…it’s fair to say she
more than likely trusted him and his suggestions enough to put aside what she actually preferred.
She probably knew whatever it was they were going to be doing, they would be able to do without a problem, and look good from head to toe, doing it as well.
To me, the fact that it was supposed to be a Free Style dance that she put aside her own suggestions for Demetri’s choice –
was wrong simply because she must have felt she had something to contribute of the two choices, that would really give her that opportunity to break free from the pack and go forth and shine.
And when she said she didn’t want to do something like Broadway because it was rather “too safe” of a style to dance, …she must have had a feeling that she needed something more to present to the viewing audience that they could connect with.
But again, this must not have been the episode where her preference really mattered. Demetri suggested a Broadway routine…and he managed to convince her to agree to it, instead of pursuing her choice.
Regardless, it was flawless. But in the eyes of the Judges,
what was their initial opinion???
Turns out Mya’s inner instinct tried to lead her right. The dance did virtually nothing for them…because from her and Demetri, they expected way much more.
Not to mention, where was all that sexy, handsome, beautiful and charming appeal that got them there?…
Folks, it’s not about fashion, but fashion on that show…does play a major part as well.
My question is…if this was the Finale…do or die time for all contestants, – on their Free style…what the hell kind of outfit was that, that they were wearing? Correct me if I’m wrong, but that was not the look of Champions.
It’s bad enough the dance was deemed as fairly bland, but their dress apparrel was far from the sexy Mya and Demetri we’ve all come to know. What I got out of it, aside from the dance – was just distracted
by all the miserable colors jumping around on my screen.
It didn’t work good for them.
Knowing that the best overall full package sells in any kind of talent show…it was hard to imagine them having to not have to go all the way to the back of the closet to find those.
I mean way back.
So far back that being in the actual closet itself should be prohibited. (No pun intended).
I mean, I’m looking at Kelly and her Partner, Donny and his…and I’m thinking…What the….happened here??? How could Mya and Demetri pull off such a serious effort?
Why not polish up the old silver platter one more time and hand it over in person while you’re at it.
Bye the way, a special shout out goes to Mya and Demetri’s
Wardrobe department designer.
It was the Finale…as in The End…”What the heck where you thinking?” Hmmm…I know, how about simple and blah…or better yet…how about
simply ugly. Come on, man. What’s up with the last images you left us with of them.
I firmly believe if Donny had to opportunity to look like a Champion as did Kelly, the same accomodations should have been given to Mya. Period. Particularly since they’ve looked, danced and dressed GREAT every step of the way in beautiful clothing, whether sexy, formal,..whatever. It worked for them all the way.
The least the show could have done was give her a solid color dress while she performed her “good but safe” dance.
Let’s recall my man, Max and his partner….when they were eliminated.
He looked good, but during their final performance…they put his partner in a seriously ugly dress that gave new meaning to
“the rainbow connection.” And unless you’re a Bjorg fan…
or a fan of a really pretty colored ostrich…you wouldn’t really like it. A costume, yes it was. Less appealing than all the other dresses worn by the contestants…yes it was.
Visualize Aaron Carter in the green suit/tux and his partner in the pink…that they performed again on the Finale.
They were portraying, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
The bottom line is details are details, and they all leave a lasting impression for all of us, like it or not.
And I’m still trying to figure out why Mya and Demetri wore something
that was just as bland as the dance they performed on their Free Style
choice.
In the end, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Mya, because she worked with what she was given every step of the way…and trusted the fact that those with the knowledge knew more.
Demetri, in my opinion is an awesome fairly newcomer…but to me, he totally blew their opportunity to secure the win for her. He did not compromise or incorporate her ideas into their final dance, nor did he finish strong at all, considering WE ALL KNOW HE’S CAPABLE.
Without a doubt, they should have won based on the same talent,
top scores and efforts that got them there in the first place.
You can’t dispute not only did Donny and Kelly have good routines,
but they made sure they looked the part as well…for the points.
Even on the Results night. The same applies.
Whereas, Demetri and Mya danced well again,…Mya looked good,
but Demetri…again…it’s the Finale. What’s with the high waters
and nerd glasses. I find it hard to believe, they couldn’t get him something better to wear.
And the song for their final dance and score…had lyrics that sounded like nothing short of true spoken words of a potential slut.
Outfits and Words…Hmmm….what a lasting impression they can make.
I know it seems petty…but again, in entertainment it could make
or break you with the least bit of a distraction it provokes.
But overall, everyone did a good job. When all was said and done,
in my mind…I didn’t expect any other outcome. Donny won, but to me
more so on popularity and certain advantages not provided to all of the contestants, equally. So, I feel, my happiness is more for Kim because anyone who’s been following the show knows she’s had a long list of season’s of coming up short. And while Demetri is good, he’s new and really through his performances with Mya, just now starting to hit his stride and be a potential standout like Derek and Mark and Julian, Max and Karina.
So, for the fact I know what she’s had to work with all these years…Jerry Springer, etc., it’s more thsn about time I guess.
Not only can she dance good, but she seems to have such a kind heart and nice personality.
Osmond fans, don’t get me wrong.
I do congratulate Donny, on his efforts…but for sure, on this one,…because of the fact his ability to not have fun on the show
spoke volumes to me. Particular when the Judges were so openly
nice to him, compared to Aaron Carter.
Even if it was an unintentional slip up, it was better left unsaid when too many other contestants were really trying to survive elimination week to week.
So, my message for Donny is try not to forget the people who you
there. You really owe them.
This is all just my thoughts and opinions on the matter
…so DWTS Fans, please don’t take any of it personal.
It’s just entertainment.
Take Care.

Are you people serious.. Just cause a white man wins over a black ..u sick people go and say it’s racist.. Only a racist would be so ignorant to say something as stupid as that.. I guess u just mean white people can’t dance so the blacks should win.. Check this out haters… Maybe your blood sugar is low and u weren’t thinking right..so go heat up some chicken and finish off with a piece of watermelon along with a grape soda so u can get ur head right you disgusting biggot…. Oops..I guess it’s easy to be so stereotypical..but I ain’t lying. So all u angry blacks just learn to realize that us whites will come out on top in areas that you think you own.. Mya was more likely to win but it isn’t up to just ur vote..it was in the hands of everyone else as well.. I wish “The Prince of Darkness” daughter (Kelly) should have gotten the win..now that would have SCREAMED racist being that her father is the white devil…

Mya should have won (with Kelley and Joanna as the other two in the finals)!! Donnie was an over-emoting, hyper, spoiled brat who acted like his life depended on winning the trophy and beating his sister. Perhaps Jimmy Kimmel’s $7000 bet and smooching with Bruno did the trick for him. Will never vote or watch DWTS again!! ABC watch your participation and ratings plunge with this show next season!!!

mya cannot be “robbed” in this type of competition where it encompasses the judges and the viewing audience–and were i to venture out and say someone “got robbed”, it would have been Kelly–think about it, of the final three, she came into the competition without the dancing experience the other two brought with them–she made the impact of impressing us each week as she continued to master her dancing skills and taking that knowledge steps further by remoulding her inner self–that is a true winner

Donny was so adorable and at 50+ he really was impressive with the schedule he kept. MYA however was beautiful and flawless. I am so torn. I voted for both of them til the end!

whoa stella, i don’t appreciate the word hillbilly being thrown out there with racist(or ignorant for that matter.) the word hillbilly itself is a stereotypical and racist word. so you should watch what you say before you criticize someone else for being racist. as far as dwts goes, of course it’s all about popularity. if it were judged by the three professional judges alone, then the most talented would win. i personally think joanna should’ve won! she definetly beat kelly and donny hands down. i don’t think mya should’ve been on the show in the first place because she already had so much experience with dancing that’s it’s really not fair. mario lopez is another example.

If DWTS was fair, Sabrina Bryan would’ve won for her season! When she did the paso doble this season, she showed that she is way better than any of the dancers from this time around! The girl is good!

professional dancers, such as mya, should not be allowed on the show, simply because they already have more training the others stars. Its like they’re getting a head start
