Who won ‘Dancing With the Stars’?

Donny Osmond DWTS

The Osmond magic didn’t get Marie to the “Dancing With the Stars” trophy season five but her brother Donny redeemed her loss Tuesday night two years later.

It was obviously R&B singer Mya’s to lose after getting 87 to 90 points Monday. But lifelong entertainer Donny kept it close, garnering 85 and on one dance, his first perfect score. If this show were purely about skill, the judges would have crowned Mya. But Donny’s popularity with the voters and impressive showmanship pushed him past the finish line.

The youthful 51 year old was the first contestant over the age of 40 to win the title after nine seasons. And it was all the more impressive considering he was commuting to Las Vegas every week to do a show with his sister.

Kelly Osbourne lagged behind at 76 points and was the first one eliminated at 10:54 p.m. EST.

Kelly showed moxie throughout the competition and wore her heart on her sleeve on and off the stage. She improved week after week. She came across much better than her younger, petulant teen self on the MTV show many years ago.

Was Donny's victory deserved?

LMAO @ Darlene your last post was Funny. I do understand what Sharon was trying to say. The judges clearly caved to the media pressure by jumping on the Donnie bandwagon; HOW DO YOU GET YOUR FIRST PERFECT SCORE LAST NIGHT AND WIN THE COMPETITION? Crazy!

This show is bogus and it is clearly not about who is the best dancer. It’s who is most popular among the viewers. The winner clearly was Mya and Kelly right behind her. No longer interested in ev
er watching this BS show again!

uhhh!!! thats what voting is you vote for the one you like. so if donny was more popular with the viewers it would be only right thats who they vote for.would you vote for the one you least liked?

They are all winners. Donny won the trophy and that is awesome. Mya was great. She had fun. Oh and Kelly. You are the big winner. You came the furthest. So they all win. Just in different ways.

Mya out-danced everyone throughout the season, but Donny steadily improved and he had a slight edge over Mya in the finals. He deserved to win. That’s how competition works. You can be a member of the best football team all season, but if some other team beats you in the Superbowl, they are the champions.

The hell with everyone that says Mya should have won. I don’t care that was the best danced. It is about more than dance ability…DUH!!!! Some people are just too thick to realize that. Hey Donny…OK you won but you were really not the best dancer. That’s for certain! KELLY! KELLY SHOULD HAVE WON! She showed more dignity, poise and grace than Donny and Mya combined. Not to say that Donny and Mya are hillbillies, They are both classy and dignified but KELLY out shined them both by a long shot. Kelly…you’re a real lady and I love you. You should have won!!

One more thing I forgot to mention…Kelly looked absolutely radiant in the white gown she wore in the episode before the finale. I have never seen such a beautiful dress and Kelly made it even more stunning!

First of all it is about momentum
Donny built it up going in and Maya lost in in these last two night. Also donny was working full time and doing dwts and is twice the age of the other two finalist. He changed his style for the competition..which is not easy mid life.

And didn’t maya have dance training and was in a show too. She lead from the frony but that is not what dwts is about. And hats off to kelly–amazing growth. WonderfulEnter your comments here

Mya the clear winner. Not watching Dancing With the Stars next season or any other. I want to see a dance competition, not popularity contest. Leave it up to the public to vote and they make emotional decisions, not logical decisions.

No, Kenneth, you’re right. The times haven’t changed one iota.
Even though we have a black man sitting as president, people still cry “RACISM” at every slight, real or imagined.
I thought Obama’s election was supposed to enable us to move on. Can we PLEASE move on? GOD!!

Mya danced the best, Donnie was the best showman and come on now…. this man is over 50 all his real competitors were in their 20s (Big difference – HUGE) I admire someone that age doing that well. Kelly was the least talented out of the three, but she is so charming ( with the exception of that weird green dollie dance that cheeped me out too much. She was playing a little girl who sit in older men laps…weird). But Kelly’s smile is incredible. Lights up a room So they all had reasons to win. I picked Mya – I felt she was the best! I wish congratulations to Donnie and I’m happy for him!!!

The show was rigged from week #1 to be honest Joanna should have been standing next to Mya. The judges clearly placed in the minds of the sheep last night Donny was the champ. If America is voting the most talented will not win on any of these reality shows. Mya was indeed gracious and humble. It’s sad that people are to evil to recognize and reward talent with a simple vote. Donny please make sure you thank all your LDS members as everyone of them cast a vote last night. Go Utah!

i know mya should have won tonite she clearly was the better dancer..but i knew if i could win one round on dancing that would be enough forme to win..you see mya was to perfect and to pretty she had going so peole were holding that against her..she should have fell like kelly or blame on her sister for a bad performance like i did ..it worked for me i played emotions and it worked ..this thing had nothing to do with talent as long as the people has a vote..and dont you all the black folk stop wacthing about last season when mario was put off for being to good….i knew mya was in trouble when the couple last show was put off i knew it wasnt about talent because me or kelly should have been voted off…so until next season suckeerrrsss!!!!

Right from the 1st night I told my husband ” put $ on Donny, He s going to win, for 1 he’s popular and the majority of people voting are female and are fans of Donny from the Osmond days”.On this show you can’t win on talent alone, if so Mario Lopez would have won and the same goes for Stacey Keebler.
Congrats Donny!

Mya had a great season. Donny caught up to her this week, though. Look the rules are explained EVERY week: The judges scores count for 50% and the public votes count for the other 50%. Clearly Donny has a bigger fan base. But that doesn’t take away from his win. Or the fact that Mya is a fantastic dancer. And that Kelly blossomed! Congrats to all of them!

“You can be a member of the best football team all season, but if some other team beats you in the Superbowl, they are the champions.”
——————————————————————–
You forgot that the fans don’t vote on the superbowl…the team that “plays the best” wins. It was obvious from the start that judge Lynn didn’t want Mya to win. He began giving better comments & scores later on as not to appear to bias. The fix was definitely in when they let Joanna & Derek go. They couldn’t have Mya AND Joanna in the finals with Donny and have Donny win…it would have been more of an outrage over Donny (the lesser) winning. The judges were obviously trying to sway the viewers and set up Donny for the win with their glowing reviews of his mediocre dances. Mya’s lackluster freestyle routine (blame her partner) was the ammunition the judges needed to give her overly critical comments. If Mya had performed the freestyle routine that Donny did, the judges would have said it was too much showmanship and no real dancing…but the made it seem like Donny was Fred Astair.

Notice how the show added in the last segment where the judges get to score AGAIN on the final night. And, of course, they rated Donny #1. The show is “dancing” with the stars, not “smiling” with the stars.

DWTS is supposed to be about a star who doesn’t have much dancing skill doing something out of their comfort zone. If you take that into consideration, Kelly should have won. She definitely was out of her comfort zone and played everyone with that fact. That being said…. HOORAY for Donny!!! Reading some of these comments, I’ve come to the conclusion that people wouldn’t know talent if it came up and smacked them in the face. 46 years! Who has a career in a business that is so fickle? No way in 10 years will people know who Mya or Kelly are (or the Jonas Brothers or Taylor Swift). Talent and the work ethic that Donny has displayed all of these years is what got him the win last night. Yes, the “middle age” fans who have loved him since they were 10 (and I am one of them) are still with him. I can remember seeing him a the Omni when I was about 11 and not screaming like all the others but crying my eyes out. The judges kept making comments about his professionalism because NO ONE on that show (over the 9 seasons) are the caliber of star or talent that Donny (or any of the Osmonds) are. Something has to be said about how he and Marie have been “hanging around” all this time because people will spend their hard earned money to see someone who knows how to entertain without being vulgar, showing excessive body parts, cussing, or degrading themselves. Congratulations, Donny.

P.S. People, wuz is not a word.

You knew the fix was in on monday night when the judges did an about face “all of a sudden”.Mya’s performance was spectactular. Look we know that it is a popularity contest so the only problem is why judge? just let the television viewing audience vote.Plus the female judge was not a “Mya fan”.Just like american idol the show is a joke and i refuse to watch it anymore….nothing against Donny Osmond but even he knows that he was despite his hard work given the title this year..what a joke!!!!

Why are people so mad? Winning’s a mind set. A crystal ball trophy is nothing compared to all the contestants learned in 12 weeks. Kelly is my winner. Mya and Donny should’ve kicked butt all the way through…they are performers. Kelly improved weekly, her partner Louie was fantastic and even with the fall on Monday she held her head high! Kudos Kelly! (and Louie)

It was fair. Donnie had fan base, but Mya had 20 years less age. Donnie was commuting to vegas doing a show as well. Mya was technicaly better. Donnie’s showmanship was better. Each had advantages and disadvantages. To me it was a coin toss. Both were excellent. Both were winners. This will give both their careers a boost

Mya could dance but she has also been dancing professionally for many years. Her experience was an unfair advantage. She also has ZERO charisma or personality. Sorry, but performance is not skill alone. Donnie has loads of charm and she has none. I disagree with those who say he was a bad dancer; he was very, very good. Mya alwaya acted like she was entitled to win and she acted like she expected to win. That turned me off bigtime. I gave her none of my phone votes on Monday. Obviously, I was not alone.

you folks are taking this way too seriously.

I knew when the contestents were first announced it was coming down to Osmond and Mya with Osmond winning. It’s why I chose not to even watch much of this season.

The show is not about the best dancer as it is billed. It will always be about popularity. If you just watch it for the entertainment value like any other show you will be a lot less stressed.

DWTS is what it is.

American people love to get hoodwinked. I did not watch the show last night because I knew Donny would win. DWTS would get more publicity if a 51 year old “has been” win versus the 30 year old Mya win. Everyone knows that Mya should have won, but that would have been boring. What would you have said if Mya would have won? Nothing more than it would have been expected. Donny win creates controversy which is what DTWS wants. The obvious winner will very seldmon win. However, as a star, I wouldn’t want to be used as a pawn for DTWS i.e Shawn Johnson. Donny knows and everyone on the show knows that he shouldn’t have won.

I knew the race card would get used, it always does. If a black don’t win, there is obviously racism involved. When will “YOU PEOPLE” ever get over it? If there is still racism in this country, and there is, it is YOUR fault!

I don’t think that Donny “redeemed (Marie’s) loss”. Donny is and always has been the better performer of that Duo. The success of them as a Duo is because of the loving banter that draws people in. Marie on her own just does not have that connection with fans. Donny on the other hand has an approachability and candor about him that gets people to trust.

Mya was an awesome and probably, on technical merit should have won. Donny however is an entertainer with more experience than any of the other people on the show. He can sell a performance. I would listen to him sing a phone book.

However, the ultimate high point was having him sing Puppy Love. A song he admits to hating despite it launching him into teen hearts of the 60-70s. I was not among those teen hearts as I was in 1st or 2nd grade when he married his wife Debbie.

As to race/etnicity being a factor — uh NO! Emmett Smith in Season 3 shows an African American can win. Apolo Anton Ono (Season 4) & Kristi Yamaguchi (Season 6) — Japanese – American and winners. Hélio Castroneves (Season 5) Latino and winner. It is really the people voting that put them over the top to win.

Mya didn’t appeal as much to the audiance. On technical merit she and Johnna were both beautiful to watch. Both seemed cold of emotion both on the dance floor and in interviews. That is the point of the interview, to help the viewers few drawn in to vote. Kelly, Aaron, and Donny were the most fun to watch. It did not matter if they were cutting up in interviews or dancing with the muppets! These later 3 make it seem like ANYONE can do this stuff. They seem less “star” and more like real people that you have in your home.

Mya shouldn’t have even been on the show in the first place. HELLO! She was in Chicago for goodness sake! I put my support behind Kelly because of the way she improved each week and her attitude was so gracious.

Mya was a professional dancer and shouldn’t have even been on the show. It should only be for people that have little or no background in dancing, not people who tap danced with Gregory Hines. I was pulling for Donny and Kelly the entire time. Kelly improved through the entire show. As far as race, Mya is half black, half white. Which half are people being racist against?

Stella

November 25th, 2009

Mya blew the free dance. Bottom line. Every season it’s the person who nails the free dance who wins. Her free dance was lackluster and a clear missed opportunity to showcase her talents. Whereas Donnie’s free dance was perfect and took every opportunity to showcase his strengths. That’s what made the difference. I loved Kelly and I thought she was the most improved but if you fall on your butt during the finals you simply don’t deserve to win. Mya danced just as well the first week as she did the last week which shows that she came into this competition with an unfair advantage in the dance skills department. All you folks griping about race, both sides of the argument, are acting like children. And, sadly, some of you are just downright ignorant hillbilly racists. I bet you consider yourselves good Christians to boot. Irony!!
