Despite rumors that Sheree Whitfield might not be coming back, Kandi Burruss said last night at the opening of her new unisex boutique Tags that Bravo is negotiating with all of five of them for a third season.
She wasn’t aware if anybody has signed a contract yet, so there are no guarantees all five will be back. It will come down to whether Bravo is willing to pay enough money. NeNe Leakes had said at South DeKalb Mall earlier this year that they were each paid $100,000 for season two. Expect a big raise given that “Real Housewives” averaged about 2.8 million viewers, by far the biggest so far for any “Housewives” franchise.
Burruss said it’s possible that Bravo will add a sixth housewife. Indeed, the network is fishing around for someone to fill that slot though she said she may not know herself until the network starts taping in February.
That’s the same month she hopes to have her album out. She’s been thrilled by the reception to her music so far and has no regrets doing “Real Housewives,” given the exposure it’s given her and despite the whole A.J. Jewell issue. (He died a few weeks ago after getting into a fight at the Body Tap strip club. Family members disputed an autopsy report earlier this week in which the coroner blamed exertion related to sickle cell anemia as the cause of his death. In fact, the family held a vigil last night at the club while Burruss was at her party.)
She said she was aware A.J. had the sickle cell trait but had no idea it could cause death. Otherwise, she said she wasn’t in the mood to talk about the autopsy results. She said she’s kept busy to help cope with the loss of her former fiance.
On the bright side, her budget boutique has done very well in its first month, Burruss said, especially the women’s clothing, which has turned over four times in four weeks.
The party was hopping when I got there at 9 p.m., packed wall to wall inside the boutique, which is right off Atlanta Road outside I-285 in Smyrna.
Two of the other “Housewives” showed up. Kim Zolciak, who told the Bert show this morning that she too had heard all five cast members were asked back but had not spoken to Sheree about it, was there with Big Poppa. (I think I saw him but I’m not 100% sure. Kandi said he had been there.) Lisa Wu Hartwell and her husband Ed were there as well.

Photographer Derek Blanks with Lisa Wu Hartwell
I took a couple of photos of Kim but we didn’t cross paths. Lisa came up to me and wondered why everyone on the blogs hate them so much. I said haters (or, if that term disturbs you, people who love to point out the foibles of characters on TV) just like to vent. The ratings speak for themselves. She too said she had heard the rumors about Sheree but knew nothing about her leaving.
Dwight Eubanks, looking dapper as always, said he was thrilled by our coverage of his house recently in the paper and online.
Here’s the video interview I did with Kandi. My wife was the videographer:

BigBoomNY-This is not a race issue! Too often we try to see things in black and white when, in actuality, they’re red and green with polka dots! There are women on RHW of OC that are “downsizing” just the same as Lisa. They (Tamera and Gretchen) have the same drama as Ne-Ne and Kim. The only people that see this as black and white are the people who ONLY see black and white. It’s obvious that you watch the show because 1) you’re taking the time to blog about it and 2) you’re actually reading the articles….so the comment you made about not reading it…I don’t buy it! The comment you made about not being racist? I don’t buy that either…..pro black? Come on, if a white person would’ve said he/she is “pro white” they would be considered racist so why aren’t you??? How about this, let the people who watch the show blog about it and you go form a rally or whatever it is you do!!!
FYI….this comment was written by a BLACK american….not an afro-american! Enjoy your day!!!

I would like to see the entire cast return for another season. The show is very entertaining. I was very happy to see Kim, Lisa & Dwight showing their support to Kandi’s boutique grand opening last night. Not sure what happen to NeNe & Sharee, but with the media buzz about Sharee not returning to show, its to be expected. Even Lisa’s husband and mystery man himself Big Poppa came out to support. Anyho..I had a blast and the gift bags were great!

For those of you who are up in arms over the term “WHIE MEDIA,” let me explain.
When a white guy commits a crime, are people all of a sudden afraid of white people? Do people stereotype and assume all white people are criminals?
When someone black does something, it becomes a label, a stereotype, a stigma for the entire race. All of a sudden, black people are this and that.
That’s what we mean when we talk about the White Media.

I agree and then I disagree with some of the bloggers. I really don’t think that this is a racial issue because we have people of all races that are looked at as undesireables. My only issue is that they have somehow picked those type of people to do the show. I don’t look at them as representing me and no one should. However, I would love to see a show with real housewives and without all of the drama, but then no one would find it entertaining (remember Deshawn Snow). Atlanta is no different than any other major city and should not be held to higher expectations.

@ Boom… Not that it should matter but Flatbush playboy. You’re using someone elses name (Steve Harvey’s sidekick) to identify where you’re from NY so I figured I’d return the favor.. And don’t think because you can use a couple of slick little words like “nor” that it makes you any more eloquently spoken than anyone else on this blog. I came to this city and I embrace everything about it, including those crazy housewives. If you don’t like it here why not take your fragile behind elsewhere and quit acting like you’re gonna heal the world of racism using this silly forum?!?!?

Fed Up – Thank you so much for stating that to BigBoomNY so eloquently! He’s a racist. That’s his prerogative, and I have no choice but to respect it. I may not agree with it or like it, but I have to respect his position. I was a loyal fan of the show for season 1, but then I was so turned off by how fake everybody had become by season 2, I stopped watching entire episodes. Entertaining ? They are! Representative of REAL ATLANTA HOUSEWIVES? They are not. Bravo could careless who dislikes the show as long as there are 2.8 MILLION people out there who do. And, it’s only costing them $500,000 in salaries. They are making millions in ad revenue. Who’s really being pimped…you do the math.
What concerns me more than how they portray these black women (or better yet how they portray themselves) is how they portray black gay men. As one myself, I feel like the 2.8 million people who do watch this facet of entertainment are completely disillusioned by how most gay black men (particularly ones in Atlanta) carry themselves. I have yet to see one black gay man on the show who is just that…a black gay MAN. I am disgusted by these men who walk around in high heels and carry purses and act as if they have a vagina between their legs. To each his own, or in this case “her” own. I just think that this show is in need of some balance. It’s only going to get worse, or for some, more entertaining from here.

I like all the ladies. If anyone has to go, I’d rather it be Lisa. Their past is in the past and I don’t look at it because God doesn’t look at it, nor any of the bloggers past. I like the role Sheree has created for herself, and I think she adds a touch of class, at times. All of the housewives shows are exactly what they are…entertainment. Each lady has to do all she can to make her character interesting, so stop hating on them for trying to create drama….that’s why their ratings are so high. Every one of us is trying to survive this economy, so why can’t they?! Given the opportunity, I’d do the same thing (except for that Kim/Big Poppa thing, that’s sad).

Not defending the prostitutes of Atlanta, but I find it quite interesting that no one has criticized those prostitutes from Orange County, NY OR NJ as much as the ones here in Atlanta!
They are all posers and most of them are broke! They need to destroy all the shows and to all you ladies that feel sorry for that Burrus lady, stop it. That was her ex-fiance and she didn’t give a damn about him…until he died! She needs to worry about getting her hair done so that she will not be mistaken for Fantasia’s twin!

How did this get to be a insult match between BigBoomNY and Shabba?? Get over yourselves — both of you. Who cares where you were from in NY? The real nemesis is NeNe, the always loud, ghetto-fabulous neo-author that can’t speak English, but has written a book and is around the country talking to our young women — even worse, taking that embarassing, tacky behavior onto the talk shows! Ouch! They all love a clown, don’t they? Now THAT should upset you. How about the glorification thru Rodney’s column of “designers” that now have a “line”, when hard working and more talented folks have been creating credible fashion for years…just didn’t have the “trashionista” Bravo TV edge. Bethcha won’t see those “lines” in Vogue, WWD, Bazaar, or Essence. That’s something to fuss about. How about the AJC carrying something, anything about the RHOA on the home page of their website everyday for weeks. That’s embarassing for what’s supposed to be a “major” newspaper.
But BigBoomNY sharing his opinion? He’s as entitled to that as everyone else who has written in this space….even those who can’t spell, those use the code word “thugs” when referring to black people, those who use poor grammar, and even the dummies who write their comments and don’t delete the “enter your comments here” from their statements….they each have an opinion. I don’t see why BBNY has to be trashed because of his. My opinion and great desire is that this train-wreck of a show would disappear. I know it’s highly unlikely because people like to see other people makes fools of themselves – no matter the color. Between the wigs, the hair, the foreclosed homes, the married-man boyfriend, the wanna-be designers, and the improper talking author — so much of this show is totally fiction or amplified for TV. But being foolish is the one thing on this show that’s not fake – it’s real.

I agree….I dont understand why folks are so intent on banning a show they watch faithfully every week….Bravo and the housewives are perfectly fine with folks saying bad things yet keeping the ratings high.
I think most folks have a problem with the fact that most women in this demographic (ATL and otherwise) have the same mentality they do towards men and money. They are just being paid to air theirs to the world while the rest of em just stay trifling without a fat check to go with it.
I also think its limited thinking to feel that one show can embarrass an entire race.

Boom, I choose my battles carefully. Let me ask you this question. Why is Jay Leno’s show getting such terrible ratings? Its because the entertainment value is not good. Now, look at George Lopez show. Why are his ratings pretty good right now? Because his entertainment value is actually really good. It doesn’t have anything to do with George being a minority. Bravo had success with the whole Real Housewives set before Atlanta came into the picture, each picking up their own fanbases. Some have issue with Tyler Perry and his brand of entertainment, but guess what? The Madea franchise has afforded him a $17 million home near Buckhead and his own studio to produce and distribute whatever his heart desires. We are drawn to shipwreck situations just like kids are drawn to mud puddles with brand new white shoes on. That’s why people are watching RHOA. Race has been thrown out some much that people have become desensitized to it and when real situation arise, its like the boy crying wolf. Trust, I hear what you are saying. This just isn’t the battle that needs to be fought!
