Sarah Palin gooses Oprah’s ratings numbers; Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift scorch Atlanta radio

“The Oprah Winfrey Show” brought in its biggest numbers in two years this past Monday thanks to the appearance of Sarah Palin. Locally, she drew a 9.5 rating, more than 50 percent higher than normal. That’s more than 300,000 viewers in Atlanta.

Nationally, the most popular telecast last week was NBC’s Sunday nighit matchup between the Patriots and the Colts with 22.3 million viewers. Locally, the Vanderbilt/Kentucky college football game this past Saturday reigned with 559,000 viewers.

The CMA Awards, which came in fifth nationally with 17.2 million viewers and featured plenty of Georgians (Lady Antebellum, Sugarland, the Zac Brown Band), roped in the second most viewers in Atlanta during primetime last week with 493,000 fans.

Atlanta-based TruTV’s latest reality show entrant “Full Throttle Saloon,” featuring a biker bar that is only open two weeks a year during a huge South Dakota biker rally, brought in a solid 1.3 million viewers opening night Nov. 10. It’s executive produced by local singer and entrepreneur Jesse James Dupree.

The “CSI” crossover trilogy last week on CBS boosted ratings for all three shows but only modestly.

And as noted earlier this week  in this blog, TBS’s new talk show “The George Lopez Show” opened last week with promising numbers, averaging 1.6 million viewers, a majority of them black or Hispanic. Most talk shows drop off sharply the second week. We’ll see how Lopez holds up.

BET’s “Mo’Nique Show,” shot at Turner Studios, had a solid week, averaging about 950,000 viewers with a peak of 1.4 million last Friday when Mo’Nique gathered the cast of “The Game” for a reunion.

BET’s Atlanta-based “Monica: Still Standing” November 10 is stumbling in the ratings, falling to 906,000 viewers from 1.1 million last week and a debut of 2.8 million after the Hip Hop Awards two weeks earlier.

The CW’s “Vampire Diaries,” which is also shot in Atlanta, drew blood from another 4.1 million viewers Nov. 12 and remains the network’s top-rated show. It’s so popular, the CW will air the first 10 episodes back to back during the week of Dec. 14, pre-empting everything else.

Bravo’s “Top Chef,” which featured two Atlantans in the final five, remains a solid dish, finishing at 3.02 million November 11. That’s just slightly behind Lifetime’s “Project Runway,” which drew 3.13 million for its penultimate episode of this season November 12.

Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Orange County” aren’t as potent as their Atlanta counterparts, drawing 1.8 million last week, far below any “Atlanta” episode this past season.

USA should be relieved that its latest drama “White Collar” November 13 in its fourth outing rebounded to 4.3 million from 3.8 million in its third week (after opening at 5.4 million a month ago.)

FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” hung in there with 3.4 million viewers during last week’s special 90-minute episode. But its new comedy “The League” slipped back to 1 million compared to 1.4 million a week earlier.

sarah palin is becomming a modern day phenom, like her or hate her. i hate it for home-girl monica that her reality show is sinking. she’s a great singer, but thankfully for her she doesn’t have a typical reality show life of trash. and for god’s sake, does chris daughtry OWN B98.5? also, i’m really liking ‘V’. i hope they keep it around

Let me tell you the importance of Sarah Palin. Sarah gives us white males hope ! We all hope we can continue to be dumba$$es like her man Todd. And we all hope that we can do nothing like Todd does and have a hot woman earn a paycheck for us. Growing up all men like to think we can marry a model, but in the end we all settle (I had to marry an Indian.) Sarah Palin makes me feel I could still marry a hottie, have her work during the day and at night, I can have her serve me her famous furburger meal. That’s the importance of Sarah Palin.

She’s a good American !

N2it, I don’t think you understand the importance of being a man. I know I sure can’t drive a snowmobile like Todd can, though. Although, my children are half breeds, that means they are only half retarded, unlike Todd’s “perfect” baby. Keep in mind, my wife wanted to give them retarded Indian names, but I overrode that so their names are not nearly as retarded as Trig, Tripp, etc. But if being a man means standing up for principles and not kissing a$$ at work, I’m sure Todd has me beat there. I am totally spineless to my managers and treat my subordinates like sub-human garbage.
