Project Runway finale a no-brainer

Are we still awake?

Seriously, I thought tonight’s big finale was more interesting than previous episodes … even though we all knew Irina was a shoo-in to win!

I did think Irina had the strongest collection, although the all-black fabric made it difficult to see the intricate detailing. That notwithstanding, you had to be impressed by the hats, the gloves, the total LOOK of it all. Save for that cutout gray sweater, I really found her designs innovative and fun to watch.

Meantime, Carol Hannah and Althea staged decent enough collections but nothing special. Carol Hannah makes lovely dresses with no edge, sort of like Rami Kashou did on Season 4. Althea’s designs – well, her aesthetic escapes me, I admit. The half-baggy, half-tight pants; the unstructured tops – none of it looks remotely interesting. Her collection looked the least cohesive (of the three) to me, yet the judges called out Carol Hannah on that same charge.

And now a word about Lifetime. I CAN’T STAND Lifetime’s commercials. If I have to see Gina Gershon poison her neighbor once more, or worse yet, if I have to hear Michelle Pfeiffer cooing into Ashton Kutcher’s  stupid ear, “I know you’d be good to me because you already are,” I WILL THROW UP. I never thought I would see the day when commercials for “Flipping Out” and “Real Housewives of Atlanta” would look good to me, but there you go.

Please, bring back Bravo.

OK, back to the fashion. I doubt anyone’s really surprised at the outcome, and I doubt that a lot of people even care, considering the weird judging that went on in Season 6.

And with that note, we move on to Season 7 in January, if I heard correctly. See you then.

I really enjoyed Carol Hannah’s collection. For her not to have any formal training, her work is on point. And the fact that she was basically on her death bed the last several days before the runway showed her work ethic even more. Although I knew that Irina was going to win, I enjoyed the show. Heck…what else was on?

Wow! Very disappointing finale, AGAIN! Judges, get with the program. Nina, you specifically stated that no one should have all black pieces on the run way and what did Irina do, not take any of your advise and if I can remind you, she never did! So, why have experienced fashion experts giving advise and then look like they have no idea what they’re talking. Especially when Irina has all black pieces and WINS! What a joke! For the average women who watches the show, I would never wear the outfits Irina produced. Please keep in mind, for the next episode, that regular people watch the show and wear normal fashions. Carol Hannah made beautiful clothes, maybe 1 or 2 not so much, but for the most part, something the normal women would wear. I’ve been disappointed again so I’m done with the show.

Okay I’m not a fashionista by any stretch , But i was wondering what the whole dynamic of a fashion show is about. There is no one i know, short of 1 night out of a calendar year (Halloween) and perhaps if they go to Carnival in Rio that would wear the stuff Irina put out there. So I’m guessing a fashion show is about the most outlandishly ugly clothing one can come up with. My practical nature would have given it to Carol Anne simply because if I was a model I would wear most of that stuff and even Althea’s line as well.

What a disappointment that Irina won. I thought her line was not that great. They had nothing but good things to say about Carol Anne but she was the first to go. I think the judges messed up big time.

very disappointing finale IMO…Irina’s collection lacked diversity and felt cold and emotionless to me. At least Carol Hannah had some pieces that moved me, some knock out pieces really, and at least she knew how to use color.

Going into the final 3 I fully expected Irina to win. Not that I was happy about that. She earned the name mean. And unfortunately, unlike the ones we loved to hate in prior seasons, she wasn’t even fun. Actually, as the final show unfolded over the last two weeks I got hopeful that she might not win. Maybe if you could see her collection up close it would have been more impressive. I didn’t think it was any better than the other two on my television screen.

Poor Carol Hannah. What a nightmare. Imagine getting to that opportunity early in your career and getting the flu right at the height of the moment. I liked her clothes. I never seriously thought she’d win though. Not edgy enough.

I was hoping Althea might pull it off. I wouldn’t wear most of what she did of course but fashion shows are rarely about what real people wear are they?

Totally agree about the judging this season. I enjoyed the season but it definately didn’t measure up to some prior seasons. As far as watching the show it didn’t bother me that they were in LA. Just seems like it makes more sense to have it in NYC, but whatever. I’ll definately watch next season!!

I was disappointed that Irena won, but I knew she would from the moment her show started. She had the edge because she did something few PR contestants do. She actually put together a real fashion show with a specific plan (like the hats, bags, shoes) to show off her collection in its best light. She was impressively professional about it and the judges noticed. So many contestants just throw there stuff up there and hope it looks good.

That being said, I liked Carol Hannah’s stuff a lot more. I know I’d never wear anything Irena had up there but if it was cut down for a short gal like me, I’d wear some of Carol’s dresses for sure.

My big question is WHY does everybody in fashion say they want something that’s edgy? Edgy often means unwearable and too far out there. I’m not saying everybody should be wearing twin sets and khaki pants but there’s a beauty in well-made clothes with unique lines and thoughtful color choices. Chloe showed us that. Just because a designer makes crazy clothes worn by models wearing goth makeup doesn’t mean it’s automatically superior.

People may talk about black clothes but everyone buys black to hide the bulge.

Um, excuse me dude but in case you never saw the horsie-romance episode of “Bones” on TV:

You’ve been punked. Project Runway was PUNKED. Irina’s “winning line” was a flatout and obvious PONY FETISH collection, right down to the equestrian helmets and the models PONYTAILS! I was sitting next to my college-age daughter, screaming this at the judges, but to no avail.

How appropriate that this dud season should end as farce!

I think this season suffered from a lot of things, most notably Lifetime’s dedication to change NOTHING, and yet at the same time to too-painful and too-frequent absenses of Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. The latter effect robbed the designers of having a consistent narrative thread of criticism, which you can tell guided designers (and chastened some) in previous seasons. Irina to me seems like a hybrid of Chloe and Kara Saun: polished, impeccable, smart, market-savvy, really well tailored but not fashion forward. But she deserved to win. My only gripe was putting Althea over Carol Hannah. Althea brings very little beyond this supposed “street cred” to the table. (SHE’S hip? Really?) Carol Hannah has the greatest potential of the three. She’s a little uncertain of herself, but has a great eye and just seems the most artistically inclined. I think we do forget, though, this might be the youngest group of finalists.
Here’s hoping Lifetime wakes up for the next season, so we can wake up as well.

P.S. Carol Hannah’s first outfit was the best outfit of the entire evening. Too bad she couldn’t keep it up.

No surprise (yawn) that Irina won. Season 6 was easily the most boring season yet. Has anyone seen Andrae? Santino? Zulema? Thank God for Tim Gunn, he’s the one constantly steady and entertaining participant. And yes, Lifetime commercials are the WORST!!!

Sorry this comment is so late; but, just woke up from watching the finale !!Can’t wait until January when season 7 starts. Usually you will say ‘Things can always be worse!’; however, it would REALLY have to be worse to top season 6 !!! See ya then
