This is nuts. I live in Atlanta, and the term “Hotlanta” is used here all the time by Atlanta residents. Anyone that says different is either lying or isn’t a resident.

Just look at the comments so far. Supposedly, only non-residents use it. Then we’ve had the comment that only rednecks use it. Then someone said only the rappers use it. Then we have long time residents going back to the 60’s saying they use it. I have to laugh since it seems like everyone’s using it.

So where is this nonsense coming from? Some out of touch DJ decided this was his new “cause d’jour”, and has enlisted his mindless minions to his bidding. You can be sure that “Hotlanta” will be around a lot longer than this guy’s radio show.

It’s too bad his listeners don’t have anything more important to do than to worry about whether Hotlanta is the latest name for Atlanta or not. Obviously, they need to get a life, but it would be nice if they could think for themselves, too.

Hotlanta is the one nickname that’s actually weathered the years (there have been many other nicknames). Why? Because it’s the one nickname that’s actually descriptive of Atlanta. We have the hottest nightlife in the south. And yes, it’s hot here in the summer.

There’s even a song done by the Allman Brothers back in the 70’s. And let’s not forget that the word itself is a clever manipulation of “Atlanta”, and guess what? People like it. If they didn’t, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation.

As for ATL, what that heck is that? It’s a luggage tag and means absolutely nothing at all. It’s not clever, meaningful, or even nice. It’s just boring and lazy. I have nothing against people using it, but compared to “Hotlanta”, it just doesn’t measure up at all.

The fact that “Hotlanta” promotes our great city to the world not withstanding, how is denigrating what others call our city, a term we ourselves promoted, helpful to our image? If you don’t like the term, don’t use it, but please stop telling others that they can’t use it. That’s just rude.

And we’re the city to busy to be rude…

Well, anytime anyone out of state has refered to Atlanta is Hotlanta they are making fun of the muggy wet heat here in the summer. “So how’s it over there in Hotalanta?” and then they laugh. And then I say, it’s fine how’s it over there in Anacrime CA. Then they say, TOUCHE!

Hotlanta doesn’t really bother me, but when they say ya’ll on that Bert Show, that annoys me! It’s not so much the word ya’ll, its how they say it. They say it and it sounds like they have peanut butter in their mouths.
You know what else bugs me about that show, the way they giggle over entertainers that come on their show and it’s even more annoying when they talk crap about them but then they come on the show and they are all so starstruck. MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!

I like Q-100, but Bert and the rest of his show need to take a hike. Are they even born and raised in Atlanta. May be they could not tell, but Janet Jackson did not take well to their request. HotLanta is fine. Mostly black people use the term. Bert show…. Forget about it!
