I was covering the Soul Train Awards tonight so am going to do a quickie here on the elimination of two more celebs on “Dancing With the Stars.”
First out: NFL player Michael Irvin finally got the boot despite the fact he got his highest score of the season Monday. He has improved over the season and has worked his heart out. Plus, people really warmed to him, his determination and radiant smile. But alas, at this stage of the competition, his time was finally up. In fact, getting a relatively good score Monday may have hurt him.
The two who had to fight for their lives were “Iron Chef America” host Mark Decascos and singer Aaron Carter. Carter’s presence again in the bottom indicates incredibly weak fan support because he had the top score on Monday night.
Carter’s problem: he comes across as cold as ice. His face just looks angry when he dances. He lacks that intangible likability that kept Irvin around so long. But since the judges had control of who to get rid of, they had to stick with Carter, despite a solid “dance for your life” by Mark.
Mark was always in the middle of the pack. He is really athletic with his martial arts background but he didn’t always gain points for precision. And he had a tough time this past week with an ill partner.
So the final five are Donny Osmond, Kelly Osbourne, Carter, Mya and Joanna Krup. I think Kelly is the weakest but Carter is clearly in trouble. People are rooting for Kelly and her emotional highs and lows. She comes across as human. And Donny has a major fan base. Mya and Joanna are incredibly skilled for sure, but will their voters come out in enough numbers to keep them around to the end? We’ll know soon enough.

On the Biggest Loser, they finally sent Tracey packing. Whew.
I keep missing DWTS. Too bad Michael and Mark got sent home. I would have liked to see them. My votes for Mya only because I don’t know anyone else.

I saw about 3 minutes of this last night switching through the channels and wondered how anyone can watch this…..Now I am wondering how anyone can write a blog about it.

The fans are trying to get rid of Aaron and I think he should have left first. It was not Mark’s fault that his partner was ill. He tried the best as he could under the circumstances.

I don’t agree that Aaron Carter is “cold as ice” nor that he “always looks angry.” He is, yes, sensitive and maybe even hypersensitive at times, but there is a wide range to his emotions and he has expressed gratitude, joy and enthusiasm, perhaps even more passionately than his disappointment at times. He, too, has steadily and consistently improved over the weeks whereas Mark (who I was sorry to see go–I’m, frankly, sorry to see anybody go at this point)….has been up and down. Very good, yes, at times, but not consistent, nor consistently improving, for that matter, though his face-off dance was superb.

Mark, who i love bc of his personality did mostly flips n king fu stuff, but i think he could have done better if he had a better pro partner, doing intricate steps. Julianne Hough, who left DWTS for now anyway (2-time champ), would have been perfect for him. She would have turned Mark into another Apolo. Mark had that great martial arts training. Lacey never took him to his full potential, she did not know how. Mayb he could have been in the finals.
His kick-off dance was nothing much…last four seconds he just stood there, moving Lacey around.
As for Aaron, he is a good dancer. His dance far surpassed Mark’s dance. Lacey did not give Mark good choreography 4 the ko dance. Aaron n Mark r fast learners…Aaron just had the better pro dancer. Karina took him to his full potential n beyond.
