TV best bets with start of ‘V,’ return of ‘Housewives of Orange County’ and season finales of ‘Greek,’ ‘Mad Men’

V on ABC

The new version of “V” on ABC Tuesday has sci-fi fans buzzing. Question: will it draw the broader audience the network needs to turn the series into a hit?

Among other notable moments this week, Atlanta is in the spotlight (and not a good way) as GPB tonight explores the nasty lynching of Leo Frank nearly a century ago.

Reality show fans will enjoy the return of Ray J on VH1 and the cast of the Orange County housewives on Bravo Thursday after the Atlanta crew wraps up for the year.

But viewers who prefer a more sophisticated brand of TV will lap up the season finale of “Mad Men” on AMC Sunday.

In the meantime, the Yankees look to close out the World Series this week (on Fox), save for a major comeback by the Phillies.

MONDAY
“Dancing With the Stars” 8 p.m. ABC — Michael Irvin lives on but this is probably his last week.

The Middle” 8:30 p.m. ABC — Frankie must sell a car in a week or wear a dog suit outside the lot.

I was a big fan of the “V” miniseries back in the day but when they did the tv series, it was corny and it thankfully died a quick death. I’m actually interested in what they’ll bring to the table now that the FX have come a long way in the nearly 25 years since the series.

I am sooooooooooooooo excited about V. Without realizing that they were about to bring out a new series, a couple of months back I rented the original 2 movies from Netflix and introduced my 11 y/o daughter. We saw the preview for the new show the next week and have been counting down since then. I agree with Jaynicia that the old series left much to be desired. I have high hopes for this new one.

The 80’s version of “V” was a good show at the beginning, then turned just plain dumb. Similar to what happened to War of the Worlds and the current “hit” Flash-Forward. What makes anyone think that yet another 80’s remake will be any better? My gut feeling is that it will be just another flip to be added to the list of current remake flops. Attention Hollywood: Just because it’s 25 years old doesn’t mean it needs to be remade….. Spoiler Alert: The Visitors Are Bad! (What a shock!)

yes i remember marc singer in the original ‘V’. he sure was handsome in his day. Looking forward to the wanda sykes show. she’s hilarious – and is the only thing funny about ‘new adventures of old christine’. ’survivor’ rocks, and i’m really likin’ evil russell. i wondered when pbs would dredge up the another incarnation of the leo frank story. i personally never found it all that interesting, but it probably needs to be told for those who don’t know the sad story

Rodney,
Will you please write an article about how WSB ruined the premiere of “V” by taking up the lower third of the screen with election results for Gordon County town council with 1% of precincts reporting (I did not make that up)?
WSB is so annoying. They always hijack our show for stupid news – like thunderstorms or some apartment fire. Do they think they are so self-important that they supersede ABC programming??!!

The only thing I didn’t like about the V episode was that they rushed it a bit. I felt like they could have let the true intent and the discovery of those among them go on for a few more episodes. Other than that, I enjoyed it and was actually mad that it was on for only an hour. I see that I’m going to really like this show. Those prison orange jumpsuits the Visitors wore in the last show are thankfully gone!
