No catfights this episode. Rather, the entire hour felt weighted down by true reality, not stupid arguments over who lied and who didn’t show up at whose party. The opening set the tone: “The episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was taped prior to AJ Jewell’s untimely passing. Our deepest sympathy is with his friends and family.”
There were two main storylines. Let’s start with AJ, Kandi Burruss and Kandi’s mom Joyce.
The most controversial issue for Kandi from the start of the season was her fiance AJ. The problem: he had six kids from four other women. And Kandi’s mom did not approve at all. She even walked out of a photo shoot rather than be in a photograph with AJ.
To try to smooth things over, Kandi and AJ go to a marriage counselor (named Lehome Bliss) and brought along Joyce. Things did not go well. Joyce could not bottle up her resentment and anger.
“I want approval in this relationship,” AJ says. “It matters.”
“AJ has six children,” Joyce said. “I honestly feel he cannot take care of Riley [Kandi's daughter] and Kandi as a husband should… Sometimes mothers can look at their daughters and see mistakes coming at them. I want to push them ouit of the way before the truck hits them.” (AJ is the truck.)
Joyce also worries that Kandi’s money will go to AJ’s kids and take advantage of her. AJ balks. “I really don’t want to hear this drama anymore,” Kandi said. She refuses to sign a prenup, which Joyce wants. “AJ has his money and I have mine,” she said.
Far away from Kandi’s drama, NeNe Leakes is grappling with her own in Athens. With an uncle and her book author in tow, she first sees her mom’s summer home, which is actually quite lovely from the outside. But it’s been empty for years. (Her mom has been dead for 15 years plus.) She then checks in on her aunt, who raised her. But the kicker is when her uncle gets a call from Alan Pope, who claims to be NeNe’s biological dad. She goes and meets him.
She’s frozen with fear and anticipation. He looks frail and can’t even stand up. But he does have NeNe’s full lips and looks a bit like NeNe’s son. He asks that if they talk about stuff, they do so privately, outside of the uncle’s earshot (and Bravo cameras.). So she accepts that but stares at him carefully, knowing that he is probably her dad for real. This is a pensive, confused NeNe we see, not the fun-loving one at parties or mocking Kim.
In other plotlines:
- Kim Zolciak and Sheree Whitfield patch things up for the sake of the show and plan a party for Kandi and AJ. They go to the scene of their big fight a few episodes back: French American Brasserie in downtown Atlanta. They surprise the pair at said party attended by Lisa Wu Hartwell but not NeNe. Kim noted how calm things were minus NeNe, who in her mind brings “negative energy” to the world. (Kim likes to talk about “negative” and “positive” energy a lot.)
AJ bravely asks Joyce to toast their engagement. Awkward! She struggles to conjure up words, saying, “I just hope that everything works out for Kandi. We’ll wait and see.”
- Kim’s hairdresser gets her a prototype wig for her wig line with $800 worth of human hair. It’s much thicker than the blonde hair she normally wears. And get this: Kim switches out her hair like folks switch out contact lens. Except these wigs cost her more than $400 each! So she is spending more than $144,000 a year on wigs alone. That is NOT a typo. No wonder Big Poppa has to sell his Buckhead home with an asking price of an astronomical $25 million (According to the realtor’s FMLS, 490 West Paces Ferry Road is a “bank owned sale,” meaning he’s not doing this sale voluntarily.)
- Dwight Eubanks helps Sheree with her fashion show, which will air during next week’s finale. He tsk tsks his way through the process, noting that she needs his help really badly and that she’s doing things too last second.

I was not surprized at the oost of Kim’s wigs. She changes wigs like other people change clothes! Kim is a gold digger extrodinaire! She will do anything except work a 9-5 like the rest of us to pay for her lifestyle that she feels that she is entitled to.

How is this news for idiots? If someone watches this show, how are they an idiot? Real Housewifes is a tv show. It’s purpose is to entertain an audience. And they do it very well. If u dont like it, TURN THE CHANNEL. You people kill me criticizing others for watching the show, but yet wou will take time out of your day to post messages about a show that you claim you do not watch. And you will talk about the people on the show as if you really know them. Now thats IDIOTIC! Atlanta has far too many haters.

I have not watched many of the shows but I think Kim is one hot momma. Aside from Kandi, the rest you can put in a sack and throw them in the nearest creek. I am not sure where Dwight came from but it certainly was not off old Bankhead Highway.

It was interesting to see NeNe with her mouth closed….I ALMOST felt sorry for her….I sald ALMOST. She seems to be so traumatized and tormented over her parental situation and it is difficult to feel sorry for someone who continually acts like she does. Her family situation is probably the reason why she is so doggone mean spirited! Kim is right in that NeNe is a sh*t starter and I was glad to see that overall the party went well without her. It is sad to watch these episodes knowing that AJ has passed on. Poor Kandi appeared to have been so conflicted over her situation…wonder how her mom feels now. May Kandi and AJ’s family be comforted in God’s cloak.
RIP AJ!!

i wonder if a.j. left insurance to take care of his varoious children. sickle cell should have been discovered during his qualifying exam. if not he did not leave insurance then kandi’s mother is proven to be absolutely correct in her concern about his responsibility. he also should have had an insurance exam when he invested in the stip club so key man insurance could be purchased to protect each of the partners. again that is probably expecting too much for a man who acted like having kids with so many baby mamas was the way a real man should act.

@so over this, check Fulton County website. It isn’t Tylers. We all have stuff in our background which makes us who we are. NENE get your humility back and not such a #$it starter. I loooved your first season, but you are just being catty this season. You can still be a Diva and not rude and loud.
Kim don’t display your way to get money in front of your girls. They will think it is ok to have that lifestyle and it is not. You know that even if you weren’t taught that.
RIP AJ. I agree with Joyce about protecting yourself. Kandi had better sign a pre-nup regardless of who she is with. She needs to protect her daughters inheritance and her legacy. I think she isn’t thinking about this type of thing because she is so young and idealistic. Look around Kandi and see how money can make people act ugle. Create a trustfund for your child now and get your money in some form to be protected – get an estate advisor/attorney to help you. Don’t be so naive with the money you worked hard for. Read “Prince Charming isn’t coming” by Barbara Stanny. She is the daughter of the H & R Block founder and LOST her fortune due to being naive. Get smart on the finances girl!

OMG I’m sooo disappointed that She-Ray didn’t clock Dwight. I was hoping someone would put that flaming, casket ready, queen in his place. Where’s the mortician with his tools to “fix” Dwights mouth so it stays shut! He freaks me out.
She-Ray, Ok, what the hell just happened, I’m starting to like you..I must be hungover.. Your clothes looked really nice. The black dress and the high waisted skirt were cool, but damn woman, lay of the weights. I’m glad you and Kim put your differences aside. AND PLEASE WOULD YOU COLD CLOCK DWIGHT. He has gotten on my last nerve.
Whew…THANK YOU LAWD, a lot less of that Beast NeNe. I too ALMOST felt sorry for her. For her sake I hope she finds out if this man is really her father or just wanting some fame. Of course next week we get FULL ON NeNe — UHG!
Kim is a trip… I bet she would be fun to go out drinking with! She has a good heart. I’m glad her and She-Ray and Lisa were able to put aside their differences for Khandi and AJ.
Lisa…It’s funny you were okay with going to the engagement party that Kim co-hosted but why is this ok and not the birthday party? hmmmm..I feel for Ed. He seems like a great guy and it having a hard time being the Mr. Mom. Their baby is ADORABLE.
Khandi, honey how hard was it to watch that episode knowing AJ is gone? I know you think your mother is being difficult but just remember one day you will be in this type of a position with Riley. Just because your mom didn’t want you to marry AJ didn’t mean that he wasn’t a good man. From what I’ve seen of him on the show he appears very nice, supportive and loving. May God be with you, his family and children during this time.

I think if Kandi’s mom feels bad about anything, it’s probably the fact that her daughter is heartbroken right now, but that’s about it. While AJ’s death was both untimely and senseless, isn’t that the very lifestyle that Mama Joyce was concerned about in the first place?
On a lighter note: you know it couldn’t have been a good sign for Kandi when the first two people to make a toast/offer Words of Wisdom at her engagement party were:
1. A mistress
2. A bitter divorcee

I think that it is extremely disresepctful to the man that raised NeNe as her father for her to take a DNA test to prove that he wasn’t her biological father. If he raised you and provided for you like his own, why does it matter so much to her that he isn’t her biological. If I were him I would be pissed at her.

Now, I understand why NeNe acts the way she does. In certain instances when one or both parents are absent from the home while growing up, there’s a need to overcompensate for that void. Most people develop strong personalities and become very dominant, loud, and aggressive. A void needs to be filled at any cost. You may see individuals develop vices such as impulsive shopping, manipulation, etc. NeNe will be fine when this void has been filled. Maybe her calmness will take over once this area in her life is complete.

I am just a little curious, NeNe took her so call uncle and author to her mothers summer home, but stood out on the porch, she stated the home was still in the family but no one had lived in it for years. Don’t quite understand that, is a very lovely home from the outside even if it was jacked up on the inside to have gone inside of the home would have told a story. What gets me is this was a summer home and her mother lived in New York. Now every one knows it’s not cheap to live no where in New York, what did her mother do that she could have two homes? After her mothers death the aunt raised her, her aunt seems like a very nice lady by the way. NeNe was nothing cute in her younger days, but as she got older she started to look better. She did look nice when she married Greg. That guy who is possibly her father looks exactly like her son. Wow less dramatics last night but it was a good show I enjoyed it for a change. Dwight knows nothing, that house in the paper yesterday was a mess. He had some good things going on but for the most part looked like the crypt keepers house. He may have a good eye for detail, but that’s about it boo that what you do. “Smooches”

kenny, it was a mutual decision to have the dna done. he hadnot provided for her as he should have; in and out of her life since she was a child and it was HIM who always questioned paternity. i’d turn that question around and ask, if he’d been present as her dad all this time why should he have EVER voiced his unsolicited paternity concerns. even grown women appreciate a daddy that acknowledges their true worth. i so feel for nene!

Well Folks – heres my take on the this weeks episode
Why every one is hating on Kim? So, she is engaged to a married man?
We all know triflin women here in Atlanta who are doing the same thing she’s doing for a whole lot less!
You can call her many things – but you can’t call her broke!
I for one – I am not made at her! Go on girl – sport that 10 Karat ROCK. and Drive that Drop Top BENTLY. At least the next man will know what the standard is. I know folks right here in town (and so do you) who are doing what she is doing — for free.
Next,
Kandi’s mom must feel really bad right now. Yes, she was protecting her daughter – but all that DRAMA that went with it – was unneccesary – AS WE ALL SEE NOW — LIFE IS SHORT. That may have been Kandi’s last chance for real happiness. Some times Prince Charming does come with Warts!
Lastly, Dwight is a DIVA he needs his own TV Show.
So much for the unreality of reality tv — talk to you all next week!

Nene is a F*&%ing fraud and is the most ghetto, hood rat, Sasquach, chia pet on TV. Why would her “mom’s house” sit empty while dear Aunt couch surfs in da hood. Its da hood cause as Nene says “Athens aint ghetto”. Last night must have shown her first trip to Athens cause Athen has ghetto.
Sheree is a man! Dwight is prettier than her.
Ed Hartwell must not have Sh%t to do cause he’s become the seventh housewife after Dwight. He needs to take the marbles out of his mouth if he wants to become a commentator.
Ok, so how the heck is Kim’s TOWNHOUSE 6000 sq ft as reported and shown in the AJC? I live in a 3200 sq ft detached house with five bedrooms and 4 full baths (not in foreclosure either) and the rooms in my HOUSE are twice as big as hers. Where the heck is the space in her 6000 sq ft TOWNHOUSE, outside?
I love Khandi! The only one with marketable skills (except for that brass pole lost in Nene’s ample a$$) and common sense. Keep your head up Khandi!
Let me finish with a positive note about Nene, don’t want to be too negative. She is dressing better this season because last season in one of the confessionals she wore a top that made her look like a well fed breast-feeding member of a lost Amazonian tribe!

Okay Joyce, (Kandi’s mom) isn’t it about time you let your daughter make her own decisions she is a grown woman. We’ve all made mistakes and she will make mistakes as long as she’s living. We all know that he has 6 kids and 4 baby mama’s but you can’t change that. He seemed like a good guy, god rest his soul, but that was his past. I wished you could have moved on from that. Kandi, a lot of times mothers are right but in order to live your life to the fullest you have to follow your heart and if a mistake is made you will know what to look for the next time. You are such a sweet person. I wish you the best and i’m praying for you and AJ’s family.
